i've been saying this forever. back when that was the big tiktok art trend i saw a couple people making Infection AUs and literally every time i was just like, okay, but you could just do rabies. literally half the things you're doing here are real symptoms of rabies. rabies is real and a present danger in nature and it's horrific, why do you need to make something up. the dramatic irony of medicine cats racing to find some herbal cure that doesn't exist. the stress having to relearn everything you know about battle, because the infected MUST be put down, but you cannot let your teeth touch their blood, and can never, NEVER let their teeth touch you. the quiet terror of realizing you haven't felt thirsty in days.
