Ed is gonna have a fucking conniption fit when he finds out where Stede went after he ran off. Like yall think he’s going to be instantly sad if he reads Stede’s obituary but I think he’s gonna go absolutely off the rails when he finds out Stede returned to Mary. Ed doesn’t know why Stede went back to Mary. He doesn’t know that Stede was feeling guilty for abandoning his family because Stede never fuckin opened up to ed about that. All Ed knows is that Stede abandoned him on the dock and, if he reads the obituary or something, that Stede died in the place where he lived before becoming a pirate, living in the house that he lived in with his Wife, which usually implies a romantic partner. Ed’s gonna catastrophize to the point where he straight up thinks that he fell in love with, kissed, upended his life for, and ultimately got rejected by a straight man, a rich straight man, even. Ed’s gonna feel used about it.

But if Stede comes back first and is the one who confesses where he went that poor man is going to be scraping barnacles off the side of the boat. He’s going to be thrown in the brig, it’s going to be terrible.

Ed is going to have a terrible, not at all understanding reaction to finding out that Stede went back to Mary regardless of the circumstances and personally I think he deserves to have that reaction. Let him be a little mean and nasty about it. Frankly I think he’s earned it.
