rereading your own fics/wips is a very slippery slope into finding out you actually have to finish your fics if you want them finished
Welcome to the June Dialogue & Trope Challenge! (Also my first time ever doing one so forgive me if there's any mistakes)
Each day includes two prompts: ⊠A line of dialogue ⊠A trope
The dialogue and trope won't always seem like they fit togetherâand that's intentional! The fun is figuring out how to connect them. Maybe the dialogue is spoken by the hero. Maybe it's the villain. Maybe it's a memory, a lie, a prophecy, or something else entirely.
Interpret the prompts however you like: ⊠Any fandom or original characters ⊠Any genre ⊠Any length ⊠Any rating (just tag appropriately) ⊠Mix and match genres, tropes, and settings
If you participate, feel free to tag your work with #JuneDialogueTropeChallenge (long I know) so everyone can find and share each other's creations.
Happy writing!

if you comment some demanding shit like this on fanfic writersâ works, you donât deserve the privilege of getting to read fanfiction for free
Fun fact! Demanding updates is also likely to make authors delay them, either out of spite, or because you bring their mood too low to effectively write!
For me it causes both <3
Or spite-delete the fic entirely.

there will always be a calling with your name on it. always. maybe not today. maybe not next week. maybe not while youâre sitting in that uncomfortable posture staring at the your screen, disassociated, mourning the person you used to be at 17, back when the future felt ENORMOUS. but eventually something will tap you on the shoulder and youâll have the epiphany: a book or a person. some city. could be the literal wind before a storm, a random stranger smiling. a patch of saturated light on the floor.
but eventually something will look directly at you, itâll hold you by your face and lock eyes with you and in the most electric way possible scream at you: âYOU NEED TO GET UP. WE ARE NOT DONE YETâ
sometimes writing fanfiction is like building a fire because you're cold but then you find out more people are also cold so they gather around the fire and you all warm up together and then someone else builds a fire and you visit their fire and so no matter where you go, which fandom it is, what concept someone may be looking for, someone out there has a fire for you

Pope Leo XIV wrote 42.3K words on human dignity in the age of AI. (But Ellipsus has written over 65K words on the topic since 2023. đȘ)
Solidarity is a weird thing⊠all of a sudden youâre seeing the Pope on your dash and the tea is⊠piping hot? (To offset the Vatican.va link, here's a tl;dr from The Onion.) ... Look at him go!
(Disagreements with his Holiness aside, itâs great to see a powerful figure power taking the side of the people.) ... EDIT: Wake up babe, a new Inquisition just dropped - apparently, not even the Pope can escape being wrongly accused by AI "verifiers."
the kind of angst that really gets me is betrayalâ but specifically the kind that is quiet and hopeless and heartwrenching. angst with betrayal always gets me but itâs the ones where the protagonist is like âI knew this would happened, but I loved you anyways and I am no god, so I will still die and in the end it does not matter than you ripped me to pieces. In one hundred years, no one will remember me. Soâ At least the bliss was realâ if ever so fleeting, if ever so temporary, because I too am transient.â
It doesnât have to be betrayal that ends in death either, its just betrayal that creeps in and at the end, when itâs been revealed, instead of surprise, or shock, or anger, itâs this desolation. This helpless hopelessness of all along, I knew this would happen but I let it, because at least I could pretend, for just a moment. Itâs when the protagonist canât help but ask, âYou too?â resigned, and aching in all the ways that blood does not touch. Instead of fury, itâs âOf course, youâd leave too. Of course, this wasnât real. How could it be?â Itâs just the tiredness of âJust go. Please, just leave me here. Havenât you done enough already?â
Not a why, but I knew. I expected it. It was always going to end like this.
I saw it in the little moments, and your quiet guilt or maybe it was cold nonchalance. It doesnât matter. I knew youâd be the death of me (or my heart). Maybe I live. Maybe I donât.
But Iâve always known.

Project T2 is a sci-fi action indie manga set far into a post-apocalyptic future. After a great nuclear war destroyed the countries where it once stood, society has rebuilt to make the city-state of Nova, which divides itself into hundreds of guilds specializing in the different labor specialties a city needs to thrive, each seeking political power to better society in its own view. Seven citizens, each with different goals, values, and guild loyalties find themselves tangled in the web of a mysterious collusion called Project T2, which threatens to shatter Novaâs already fragile political system and hides a dark secret about the society humanity has recradled itself in.
The first three chapters are available with the fourth on the way! I'm hoping to update this monthly-ish
if you read these chapters please know it means the world to me :) i worked so. so hard on this so any sort of shares, reshares, anything would be so amazing!! Thank you SO SO MUCH to everyone who's supporting this project for so long, i truly don't think i would have gotten to a debut if people weren't so supportive
Things to consider when writing a character!! --1
âč What do they want vs what do they need. these should not be the same thing. what they want is the surface goal ( the job, the person, the revenge, the answer.) What they need is the thing underneath that they can't name yet. The story is what happens in the gap between those two things. if they're identical your character has nowhere to go.
âč What are they wrong about. Not morally wrong necessarily. just. what belief do they hold that the story is going to test. What assumption do they make about themselves or the world that turns out to be incomplete? A character without a wrong belief is already finished. They have no arc, give them something to learn even if learning it hurts them.
âč How do they talk when they're nervous. Do they go quiet or do they talk too much? do they deflect with jokes? do they get weirdly formal? do they ask questions instead of answering them? the way a person behaves under pressure is who they actually are. And it should be different from how they behave when they're comfortable.
âč What do they find funny. this one sounds small and it is not small at all. Humour is worldview. What makes someone laugh tells you what they value, what they're afraid of, how they handle pain. A character with no sense of humour is just flat. even the gravest person finds something absurd. find the thing.
âč What are they ashamed of? not their tragic backstory. their actual shame. The small ugly thing they would never say out loud. The time they were a coward. The feeling they pretend not to have. The desire they think disqualifies them from being a good person. Shame is where the most interesting character work lives and most writers skip straight over it :(
âč What do they do when no one is watching? how do they move through a space alone. What do they reach for when they're sad. What do they do with their hands??? Public behaviour IS performance. Private behaviour is truth. you don't have to show all of it but you have to know it or the character will feel hollow in a way the reader notices without being able to name.
âI believe in the kind of love that doesnât demand me to prove my worth and sit in anxiety ⊠Something that allows me to me without question.â
â Joey Palermo
Some luxuries canât be bought â theyâre simply felt in the quiet moments. âđâš
