Patriarchy has usurped the natural order of how mate selection is supposed to go.

All across the animal kingdom female animal's forms and appearances prioritize function and safety, while often the male counterparts are eccentric and beautiful and colorful to attract mates. The peahen and female beta fish are plain but they are functional and practical and it aids their health and survival to have plain but functional forms.

Males on the other hand actually have to work to prove themselves as a worthy mate. They make themselves beautiful. They make incredible displays. They build beautiful and elaborate nests. They have colorful and impractical forms for the sake of drawing in a mate.

And there is actually a very good biological reason for this. Females objectively have more to lose from the mating process because of how physically taxing and risky producing offsprings is for females. So the males have to work and risk everything to prove themselves a worthy mate. They have do make themselves dazzlingly beautiful and risk themselves to predators in the process. They have to make nests that are works of art. They have to fight.

Humans are a disgrace to our sisters across the animal kingdom. Human females spend hours every morning primping and preening and are expected to settle for shitty and sub-par males who put no effort into their own appearance and do nothing in return for their female partners. Human males get to roll out of bed every morning and throw on a gross dirty old t-shirt and go out unshowered and smelling like shit and are allowed to still expect to catch a total bombshell while putting in 0 effort and doing nothing for her. Absolutely fucking disgraceful. Would peahens or female beta fish settle for this shit? Absolutely fucking not!

OSA women should try to think more like the peahen or the female beta fish or any other number of female animals that follow the natural order of mate selection. Prioritize your own health, safety, and comfort first before anything else including appearance and males. And only give males the time of day if they absolutely fucking dazzle you and prove that they'll be a good and worthy partner for you.

I could go on but I think this should suffice for now. The point is that these are the “great men” that have been profoundly influencing Western thought for thousands of years and are quasi-worshipped for their supposed “genius”.

But then, somewhere along the line, one Valerie Solanas comes along, writes one little satire where she doesn’t talk about men in particularly favourable manner and suddenly she’s The Devil?

It’s funny to me because this post doesn’t do the SCUM Manifesto justice by saying it “doesn’t talk about men in a particularly favourable way”. When you hear about what Valeria Solanas wrote about men in this work, it’s horrifying:

Then you realise that this work is a parody of, directly quoting in some parts, the way Freud wrote about women.

The work was intended to point out an unconscious bias and double standard. It succeeded in doing so.

As I heard once, “the most telling social commentary is not the work itself, but the way in which we react to it”.

I don’t like male policing of male behavior being called “patriarchy backfiring” because it’s not. Male policing is not some horrible flaw in the patriarchal system for men that they didn’t see coming, it does not have the opposite effect of what was intended, which is male supremacy, male policing does exactly what it is intended to do. it was essential in creating, and in maintaining, patriarchy.
