Sometimes when looking for something on my computer I come across a photo of a past wedding that I loved doing. First of all, Jacquetta and Shaneequa were in love and it showed. The best part about doing a wedding is hoping that you're assisting in setting the stage for a future full of love. So an amazing FB group that I belong to posted this photo that I think a lot of people could benefit from. Consumers and other artists alike. Consumers that try to find a reason why you should charge less simply because they don't want to pay that much for your service and everything that goes with it (remember folks, there is a difference between price and value) only look at the dollar amount and not what comes with it. And artists that charge next to nothing give the idea that our skills, expertice, time and effort are not worth being paid adequately. Hairstylists and makeup artists put their money where their mouth is with every class they take, product they try out in hopes of finding the best ones for you and dedicating their time to honing their skills to be amazing enough at what they do to be a part of your beauty experience. Cheap does not equal good and expensive does not equal quality. Do your research and find the best fit for you. First off, over the course of my beauty life (personal and professional) I have seen trends come and go as well as some basics that are the cornerstone of what we do. But this one here just baffles me...Oh Maybelline, why have you forsaken me so? We have been taught to draw in brows to mimic hairs to eliminate the possibility of them looking drawn on. Now you make a product (which could be great used differently but I personally can't say because my only exposure was the commercial I saw today) that tells the consumer to apply it in one stroke. You are going to create an army of beauty mishaps. WHY WHY!!! When products are put out with demonstrations/verbiage on how to use it that go against everything that an artist would tell a client it causes confusion that could have easily been avoided. I am disappointed that a huge brand like Maybelline didn't think that through better. YAAAYYYY! So my order from Innersense came in yesterday and I opened it this morning. I don't have much feedback on the products yet other than the fact that it smells flippin amazing...however I did receive an amazing surprise. I tend to order a good amount of things via mail for my personal and professional use so I get annoyed with the amount of unnecessary shipping waste that happens regularly. Particularly with beauty products. Now I'm all for getting my products with no damage to them in transit, but you don't need the excessive amounts of paper, packing peanuts or boxes that are filled with padding because the box was just too big. My order included 10 products and this photo shows the size of the box with one of the products in the front for scale. If you can fit 10 items in a cube sized box that traveled across the country in the crappy winter weather and arrived completely intact, then other companies need to take notice. Oh @macadamiahair.....so I tried the Ultra Rich shampoo and conditioner yesterday. The shampoo seemed pretty good, but the conditioner did my hair no justice. I had to co wash this morning just to be able to do something with my hair. It was dry, crunchy and had no curl definition. It seemed different immediately with the conditioner yesterday but I wasn't sure if the extreme cold and dry weather we've gotten had any impact on my hair as well. I'm going to try it on my relaxed clients to see if it's any better (but I'll be prepared with a backup in case it does strange things). It may just not be good for natural hair. I still really like the curl cream though. Good definition and very concentrated. I used the Miss Jessie's leave in condish (which I'm really really loving) both days and I co-washed today with the DevaCurl Decadence conditioner which my hair is doing well with so far. I'm a stylist, but when I have to do my own hair I'm a consumer just like everyone else. So I rarely post photos of myself, but this #flashbackfriday you get moi😆 This was taken about 15 years ago when I went on vacation to Hawaii. My best friend was stationed there as well as a few other people I knew. I wore my hair relaxed and super short back then but I got it cut before I left and it went even shorter than my normal 😬 But it grew back quickly and it meant I didn't have to do much to it while I was away. Score! Being a huge music junkie, it's tough when you see the people that helped to create soundtracks for your life leave this earth. So I cleansed this morning for the first time using the DevaCurl Decadence No Poo and One Condition products. I like them way better than the regular Deva line for my hair. I left in a little of the conditioner and then followed up with the Curls Goddess Curls gel to shape my curls. I actually like gel in my hair since I've been doing the 30 day hair detox program. My hair is so different. If I continue to have good results I think I'm going to bring the Decadence line into the salon for my curly girls.
