and yes the stimulant meds do help with this too. The right meds should not “alter you forever” I don’t care what facebook moms say. The right meds will lift the weight from your shoulders and you’ll get VERY ANGRY for a bit because everyone else had it this easy the whole time???? I highly recommend trying out some of the medication available for ADHD.

I don’t remember the original Spirit that well because I was in the 1st grade, can someone explain what they changed/why this is a hate crime specifically? I’m not following

One thing you need to understand is how essential horses were to the colonization of America, and how essential they were to several Native tribes' way of life. People are alienated from horses nowadays, but horses have been inseparable from humans for thousands of years. Horses were transportation and sustenance. Horses tilled our fields and turned mill wheels and pulled the beams with which we built our houses. Horses carried humans into war and horses carried refugees to a new life. Horses were dear companions and pests to be exterminated. Wherever humans have gone, they have brought horses with them. The world as we know it would not exist without horse domestication - for better or for worse.

There is no better way to tell an allegory of colonization than from the perspective of a horse.

Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron is an allegorical story of the colonization and expansion into the West. The way I see it, the movie has three main players: The native people (Little Creek and the Lakota), the invading people (the railroad, the cavalry), and the land itself (the horses, the mountains). The movie is about the violent capture of the land by invaders, told through the capture of one horse. Throughout the movie, this horse (this piece of the land itself) is abused into submission, enslaved, and used to build a railroad that will eventually destroy his homeland (and I don't think 'enslavement' is an inapt comparison, considering how Black artists see themselves in him).

The horse, the land, is freed with the help of the native stewards of the land, but we, as the viewers, know that this is a bittersweet ending. In a sense, Spirit is a tragedy. The ending might seem triumphant, the railroad project was stalled, Little Creek wasn't killed, and Spirit is reunited with his herd. But we all know what comes after the movie. Expansionism didn't end with one rebellious mustang, one brave Lakota, and a sabotaged railroad. There is no happy ending to the "story of the West."

The Spirit reboot particularly spits in the face of everything the movie stood for by making its main character the daughter of a railroad magnate.

Here are a few clips, though I really recommend rewatching the entire movie. It's "baby's first anti-colonialism" and yet it tells its story leagues better than most anti-colonialist kids media today.

The U.N. warns that 1.1 million Palestinians are at imminent risk of death, as the crushing toll of the siege reaches its lethal and final stages. In North Gaza particularly, there is little time left before hundreds of thousands of people will die of hunger.

Time is almost up for over a million people. The US and its allies bear full responsibility for what can only be described as an impending holocaust. Without an immediate change of course that includes the provision of mass amounts of aid into Gaza and sanctioning Israel, mass death from starvation is a guarantee.

It is extremely important that this isn't just "more of the same" here. They're out of food, it is getting worse. Integrated Food Security Phase Classification is an organization for studying food insecurity, and they have a scale for how bad food insecurity is. Gaza has BEEN in phase 4 for a long time now, and that's already what is called "emergency". Its bad. But they only now have been upgraded to phase 5, outright famine.

Gaza is the only place in the world to have this level of food insecurity right now.

This isn't "more on-going cruelty" like I have heard from so many. This has changed to "no, this community is currently collapsing, and will completely die out if we do not do something NOW to at least take them from 'dying' to 'starving'". This is acute food insecurity on an unimaginable and unsurvivable scale. Contact whoever you need to immediately, because it literally does not get worse. This is the part where the genocide could fucking its goals if you do not do something to spurn your government into action.

unfortunately, a lot of the userbase won't opt out. those who don't see this post, those who have posted to tumblr but don't anymore, users on older versions of the app who forget to opt out next time they're on desktop, etc. the point of making it opt-out is to take advantage of people who wouldn't have opted in but don't/can't opt out in time. automatically opting out people who have discouraged search crawling is a gesture that helps Tumblr look more kind, but from the fact that everyone else has to manually opt out, Tumblr is definitely not looking benevolent.

I wonder, will Tumblr/Automattic be selling images from deactivated blogs? I assume deactivated blogs can't opt out.

when will they start selling this data? Is it already too late to keep them from selling every image you've posted before you opted out?

and if they're especially malicious, I wonder if they could get away with saying "this image is from a blog that's opted out, but it was reblogged by a blog that hasn't opted out, so we're selling the image that's on that non-opted-out blog."

making users need to opt out to keep their images from being taken and sold is a shitty move that makes it clear Tumblr/Automattic don't respect our privacy, and @staff are really not giving us much info here to suggest otherwise.

I wanted to add a quick tutorial for mobile users cause the instructions are a little iffy and seem like you have to turn something off rather than on like the tumblr live mute switch

First go to the settings on your blog

Then go aaaaaallllll the way to the bottom to visibility

Then switch on the option to “discourage” searching and/or third party sharing

Hopefully this is helpful to people and I’m not sidetracking this post which is rightfully criticizing tumblrs actions and choice to sell users data

Saw someone on either here or twitter (could not find OP but they're out there somewhere) who said you should make a Nightwing OC using the colors of a picture of the night sky on the day you were born (but alas I'm old enough that there really aren't any good pictures on the internet of the night sky when I was born, so I used a picture from 2000, on the day I turned 1). Technically not a night sky pic but I went with it!

No name yet but he's a night/sky hybrid born under one full moon who has both firescales and mind reading, both severely weakened by the hybrid status. The mind reading only works when making direct contact, and his firescales doesn't incinerate whatever he touches, but still burns quite badly (like touching a hot pan or boiling water- causes a bad burn but doesn't reduce you to ashes)
