i don’t think the hive cares about starving

the HDP infomercial doesn’t try to justify HDP as a means to prevent mass starvation, even though that’s a valid argument. koumba says that the hive has calculated how long it will take to starve, when pressed about it. the hive didn’t say, “we will begin starving and we are looking for a way to fix this.” the survivors asked about it, multiple times, probably worried about the bodies of their loved ones, and of themselves if/when they join, and the hive only revealed it when asked directly and insistently.

the hive does not give a shit about the bodies once it’s spread to them. they’re like flecks of dead skin. dust. the hive’s biological imperative is to spread, not survive. makes sense considering it has shit survival instincts. it’s fixated on swallowing all of humanity, complete domination, and then sending the code for the virus to another extra-terrestrial population or two or ten. the hive isn’t concerned with starving because it’s already calculated that it can force-join the survivors in the next few months, which gives them plenty of time to construct an antenna to send the virus elsewhere before they run out of food. they do not care about surviving. they care about spreading.

once that signal is sent out, there’s nothing left to infect. the survivors expending time and energy on saving the hive from starvation is just a bonus. it keeps them sympathetic to the hive and consumes their time so they can’t spend it trying to reverse the hive
