As much as I enjoy Kurvitz's writing, I'm torn between the potential deeper meaning behind how he wrote the female characters in SATA or if he's simply being a man writing women
Like the focal point of the boys' obsession is the Lund girls and I GET why they were sexualized so much in the past chapters (we're seeing these events from the perspective of 3 horny teenage boys whose obsession with them consumes their adult lives later). And I'd like to believe that we're supposed to be uncomfortable with how they sexualize them. So by the end of the novel, I think the girls chose to go into the Pale to be forgotten and that's why Målin is begging Kahn to forget them so that they can truly be gone, but I have two theories about why they chose to leave.
One: Målin was pregnant with Zigi's baby, and his nihilism was so strong that the fetus literally WAS nihilism or the origin point of some Baby Pale (like the 2mm hole in Disco Elysium, but inside of a young girl). That desire to disappear spread from her to her sisters and it led to them leaving existence to enter the Pale.
Two: More meta and where the sexualization comes in, but I wonder if the girls were so aware of how they were viewed not just by the main boys and the narration but by society in general. Personally I know I and many other women and girls who have developed a sense of depression and hopelessness at how they're perceived sexually from such a young age in society, and had a desire to just disappear and never be looked at or perceived ever again. I headcanon that this societal sexualization (combined with a potential bit of Pale/literal nothingness or nihilism inside Målin) contributed to their desire to disappear from the world, and that not only were Kahn and the others "torturing" them by remembering them, but they were torturing them by STILL sexualizing them and viewing them more as objects than real people (in Jesper's case, his fixation on them and his childhood sexuality led to him rejecting adult sexuality at all and he became a literal by-definition pedophile with that lingerie model. She even calls him out for it).
