Everyone who associates with the twins is absolutely terrified.

They can forget about it, most of the time. The gang has a laugh about how Nightmare didn’t even know what a smartphone was and how he still uses quills and refuses to get anything that passed through the microwave. Ink loves telling everyone about all the curses they taught Dream when he got out of Dreamtale, not knowing a word of english, Blue still isn’t sure Dream gets what a tv is.

But sometimes they get reminders of the absolute power and how unnatural they really are, of their immortality. Killer is the only one of the gang who has seen Nightmare absolutely decimated and in a second back again like nothing happened. Blue has had to cover his eyes from the sheer leves of brightness his friend can reach whenever he gets excited. Everyone in the castle has experienced at least once Nightmare’s ability to shape shift into incomprehensible shapes and still can’t forget about it. Ink knows they have a spotty memory, but they’re 60% sure Dream has hypnotized them at least once.

Even when nothing like that is happening, their words hold way too much knowledge, their movements way too effortless even in battle, how they really don’t need food or sleep. The shadow under Nightmare is slightly wrong if you look at it for too long, Dream natural shine is a bit more than the eye can manage, especially when making eye-contact.

They never talk about it, they’re important to them after all, and they have never gotten directly hurt. But still, in the face of eternity and divinity, they try not to think about the absolute terror that is having a literal god take an interest on them.
