I want LEGO to bring back Bionicle
Wow, shocker, that's not exactly a hot take, is it? People can say all they want that they will never bring it back, and maybe they won't, but I'd still like them to anyway.
When I was little, I only knew about the last movie from Gen 1, and I thought they were going to explain and continue from that... I was like 6 then? I also vaguely remember Phantoka and Mistika commercials, I think. I only learned there was more to it in like middle school. And I was fascinated by it, the story and toys. But I was sadly way too late to the party by that point.
But by then, Gen 2 was being made. And I was HYPED. I actually kinda liked G2 (besides that dumb ahh ending). I really wanted the sets, but I didn't have any money, and my parents were reluctant to buy me any very expensive from their point of view toy. And by the time I saved up... they were just GONE from the stores??? Deadass, full shelves, then none.
The only Bionicle builds I have is that tiny goofy brick Tahu and the GWP set with Tahu and Takua. And I had no luck with getting any boncles second hand so far...
But it's not just about the toys for me. I just wasn't able to find any other series with the vibe Bionicles ever had. Both gens to be honest. I know that LEGO can make good stories. They just fumbled G2 for no reason??? Maybe they thought it would be easy money, and they didn't have to try, or just to prove everyone it won't work because they really didn't feel like bringing them back. They point is, fan work will be fan work, and LEGO just sits there doing nothing with it. Other themes with zero story get throwback stuff all the time. It's not impossible to give people ANYTHING. And to be fair, they're doing something (the Tahu Cosplayer minifig they're supposedly making for the future minifig series), so they're clearly not ignoring it completely.
''But wait! The molds are long gone, they couldn't possibly-''
Yeah, I heard that. But, they be making new molds all the time. They don't want to make action figure pieces? Fine. I am 100% okay with brick build robots. And I don't believe they would have to be crazy expensive, like for real. The GWP Tahu was a good start. With a few more tweaks, and addition of masks (even as just a more fancy standard Lego plate), and I believe it would be golden. Is it a big change? Yes. But come on, robot builds like that could still be good, and allow even more creativity. And if they really want to get that lazy, they can just make one piece decorative plates to make the limbs. I think if we're to get anything Bionicle ever again, we need to accept changes that may come with it, and that G1 in its purest form is not going to come back. But change is inevitable, and unless they royally screw up again, I think it could be embraced and enjoyed.
I feel like G2 died partially because it wasn't G1 and people didn't give it a chance (besides... you know, Lego not doing any advertisement, seeing that money isn't pouring in and nuking it last second before it could be properly finished). But Bionicle was such a big part of LEGO history, and the fact that younger people might not know it even existed is kinda sad. Like, none of my peers that I meet ever knew about it. I'm yet to find any bionicle enjoyer my age in the wild.
Yeah, maybe it all is just copium, but if Bionicle taught me anything is that there's always hope. So yeah, I'll always be hopeful for a G3. And I don't think I'll ever not get excited about any and all bionicle rumors. You can bet I will be hunting down that Tahu cosplayer minifig when It comes out, I'll take anything Bionicle at this point.
And just so my post is extra annoying, I'm going to throw in a fact that I saw online something about 2026 new Lego themes, and one had codename 'B', so I am hard on copium that it is Bionicle 100% confirmed lol
Don't take my post too seriously, it's just my wishful thinking as a younger fan who missed out a bit on the old gens of Bionicle
