I miss when ads were a single click and then they’re gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesn’t even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.

I hate advertising. I hate that you can’t do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that there’s nothing I can do about it.

There are some solutions like ublock origin for browser ads and dns adblocking like pi hole but when people talk about these they often miss that the ad industry has spent untold fortunes to create unblockable ads so its not even like there's a perfect technical solution.

Moreover, it’s not enough that I can block ads for myself: I want to live in a world where nobody sees ads!

I don’t want all the women in my life and in my community to constantly have their self-esteem crushed by advertising! I want to collaborate creatively with others who haven’t had their tastes dictated by the rich through advertising! I’m tired of explaining to my parents that the things they see on TV ads are lies and scams! I don’t want my kids to grow up around friends obsessed with consumerism and gambling because that’s what’s advertised to them!

I want the people in my community and in my country to know that consumerism isn’t normal, and none of this has to be this way! I wonder what the world would be like if we didn’t all just accept that rich people can take your time and attention without your consent!?

actually im not done buffy is transgender for real. she's a girl, but she's something else too that the other girls at school aren't, and she knows that that identity automatically makes her an outsider from all the other girls at school. she likes who she is, but sometimes watching Cordelia, she can't help but long for the ease of being "normal". her friends love and support her, but they aren't like her, and she knows that means there are some parts of her life that they'll just never understand. she wants to be homecoming queen so badly, if only to prove to herself that she can be this other thing and also a regular high school girl at the same time. how she tries to hide her identity from her mother for as long as she can. how when she finally tells joyce, they get in a huge argument because joyce is so afraid of what this means for buffy's safety that she tries to stop her from being herself. the fact that buffy, arguing with her mother about her own identity, says "You think I chose to be like this? Do you have any idea how lonely it is? How dangerous?" The fact that a stranger tells her "But you're just a girl." and she says "That's what I keep saying."
