even if it were true that (1) being fat were always in every single person correlated with disease, (2) a weight correlating with an "overweight" or "obese" BMI were never a non-athlete's body's ideal state, and (3) weight loss had no risks, it would not justify creating or contributing to people's feelings of revulsion toward fat bodies, and it would not justify regarding fat people as moral failures.

contrary to popular belief, the belief that a fat body is unsightly or indicative of poor character does not result in any fat person attaining greater well-being.

it is impossible to say truthfully that you have someone's best interest in mind when you are saying that bodies like theirs are disgusting or indicative of laziness. doctors who hold this position are incapable of providing adequate medical care to fat clients. this has killed people.

if you do not ever challenge your feelings of revulsion toward fat bodies, you have blood on your hands.

I hate that people decided to dumb down racism, colorism, texturism, fatphobia, and featurism working together to “pretty privilege”

it’s literally an euphemism of those terms, and actively ignoring those terms is harmful because it doesn’t allow people to unlearn, understand how they benefit or not, and how they should act in solidarity to the oppressed.

dumbing it down to “pretty privilege” will also allow those who are oppressed in those terms to feel as if they’re being treated differently because they’re ugly and that’s not the reason, white supremacy and rampant anti-Blackness is the reason.

Ok, so, on tonight's 911, S4EP13 we saw something very, VERY important to portray (in order of how it happened in the show):

Doctors being dismissive of women's symptoms.

Not only that, but doctors being dismissive of a Black woman's symptoms.

Not only that, but a doctor blaming things on weight!

And they showed the doctor rejecting requested tests!

And not only that, but a doctor being dismissive of someone because they have medical knowledge but who they dont know is medical personnel or who they believe has inferior medical knowledge! [There a post floating around on here that says some doctors really, really hate when someone who comes in with more knowledge about something than them and that they will treat you less because of it (because they feel...the word that comes to mind right now is emasculated. EDIT: Threatened).]

"Which is why I never go." THIS IS SO TRUE! EXPERIENCES LIKE THIS ARE WHY SO MANY PEOPLE DON'T GO TO DOCTORS OR STOP GOING TO THEM!

What I need people to know IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU: if a doctor rejects doing a test, TELL THEM TO WRITE DOWN IN YOUR CHART THAT THEY REJECTED DOING THE TEST AND MAKE SURE THEY DATE AND SIGN IT! Sometimes that can scare the shit out of them enough to get it done.

Hell, if you can get them to, tell them to WRITE DOWN THE REASON THEY ARE REJECTING DOING THE TEST!

I'm serious, their "potential malpractice or wrongful death suit" alarm should go TF off.

I am telling you, this goes for anyone, but especially if you are overweight, female or female presenting, or a BIPOC. DO NOT LET DOCTORS - OR ANY MEDICAL PERSONNEL - GET AWAY WITH THIS SHIT!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Of you can't treat all your patients with care and all equally, you should not be a medical professional.

A glow up is someone getting more rest and looking overall happier. None of these things require you to lose weight, period- y'all are just fatphobic.

I really hope that at some point people take fatphobia seriously enough to address it in themselves and in their social circles.

Fat people face unchecked discrimination in everything from basic healthcare, to hiring, to literal incarceration and very few thin people bother to think about this or take it seriously because they’d rather enjoy feeling superior than even recognise an injustice they don’t face.

And honestly even if there weren’t study after study demonstrating active discrimination against fat people in our society, just the interpersonal cruelties and exclusion alone would be worth addressing.

Start taking this fatphobia and body policing seriously. Fat people deserve inclusion and respect, as they are now, without proving to anyone that they’re trying to not be fat, or that their fucking cholesterol levels are low, or whatever the fuck else. 

Human beings facing a fucking size limit for being respected and cared for is a feminist issue.
