some losers are trying to take over Pennhurst (you know, the haunted asylum) just so they can bulldoze a really fascinating historical site and one of the only disability history museums in the US and replace it with an AI data center all while kicking up all the pollution and dead bodies in the ground. cool!
obviously there's a big ethical issue with hosting a haunted house on the site of atrocities but at least that shit keeps the site funded/alive for people to visit and learn about the actual history if they so choose (and 3/4 of the staff are disabled and they keep the haunt to the former administration buildings rather than the ones where people were directly abused & killed. so there's some thought put into it that I can respect, even if I'm never stepping foot in the haunt)
I went for a historical tour a few months back and the buildings are all a mess and need a ton of remediation despite them prev trying to do work on them. a bunch of buildings have been demolished over the years due to being completely dilapidated and unsafe so there's only a few left. but it's a really fascinating place that is worth preserving for the sake of education. it needs to be designated a historical site imo and given more focus as a museum instead of a kitschy horror attraction or "Useless Land" that you could slap a shitass data center on.
love waking up to good news in my inbox
The stupidass developer is going to fight it, but, victory for now
