SERIOUSLY. Where were these people going to school? Because I can’t remember any point after learning what sex was when there weren’t adults freaked out about the fact teenagers were having it. Or might be having it. Or might be thinking about having it. And then making up urban legends about newer, scarier ways teenagers might be having sex, and having moral panics about jelly bracelets or rainbow parties.

There were definitely people at my middle school and high school having sex.

This is absolutely wild. What universe do these people come from?

I was 11 my first time. So was my partner. I was 8 when I started discovering feelings I later discovered were kink. I’d already been having sexual feelings for years before that. Almost everyone I know well enough to have discussed this sort of thing had their first sexual feelings or desire or horniness or whatever you want to call it around 8 or 9.

My own 15-year-old has had sexual feelings for years and draws and writes explicit fic of his favorite characters. He started when he was 13 I think, and he came to me terrified that he was evil and a pedophile (a pedophile! he, a 13-year-old child at the time, was worried he was a pedophile thanks to these morons) because he was doing that. Of course I told him he wasn’t, nor were adults who shipped or made art or whatever. A pedophile was an adult attracted to children. Not an adult who made fucking art.

Seriously, what universe do these people come from? And more importantly, in what universe do they think people’s experiences are one and the same? And even more importantly, in what universe do some of them (the malicious ones, the ones driving all this) think that simply clutching their pearls will change physical changes happening to human beings around the world?

The good news is, as you see, all of these things passed the house because Dems have the majority. The bad news is they might not pass in the Senate if this is indicative of how the GOP will vote.

the elephant in the room when it comes to the “we must protect our children” objections by conservative politicians is that they are not referring to living, breathing children, but a platonic concept of “a child” that children are coerced into emulating through abuse kneaded by both the state and their parents. The lack of rights children possess is to render them unable to object to what adults claim to do for their own good, which oftentimes are merely just means to maintain them as property than help them as people. The idea that teaching 6th graders very basic, very clinical sex ed is child abuse stems from the fear that their parents lose some control over their child’s autonomy by having the child know things (which, statically, also makes them more likely to tell someone when they are being abused by an adult. Interesting) that the parent has not sanctioned as a part of their person. Conservatives accuse everyone else of child abuse not because they care that a child is being hurt, but because hurting children is only their god given right.

one big aspect of the christian homeschooling movement has been a focus on ‘parental rights,’ which, more often than not, are used to hide hideous abuse/reduce parental accountability. to the point a bunch of survivors had to band together to try and stop it.

Too many people I've talked to still see white privilege as something they consciously experience, or a benefit they gain based simply on their skin tone. I can confidently say that white privilege is not what you gain, but a lack of loss.

I don't have to look over my shoulder when I pass a police officer on the street. I don't have that pang of anxiety when a hillbilly with long hair and a MAGA hat walks towards me. I don't have to deal with stupid questions about "my homeland" and nobody ever tells me to go back to where I come from. In fact, I don't have anyone in my family that have been the victim of police brutality, civil asset forfeiture, prejudice in the workplace, or anything similar. That is what white privilege is, and it's about damn time we recognize it.

This whole thing is surreal to me. Like I'm just s layman and I'm gaping at all of this. I can't imagine how lawyers and people experienced with this field feels. This is a kind of history making that I am glad to see for myself, for once.

As a professional Conspiracy Understander I cannot really describe how deeply satisfying this is. Alex and all the people like him are never used to facing penalties for the bullshit they pull. I really don't want to jinx it, but even if Alex manages to worm his way out of this, it's so fucking satisfying to watch him squirm.

As satisfying as this is, I want to draw attention to the victims in this case. These are parents who lost children in a school shooting. Alex harassed them for YEARS, even going so far as to POST THEIR HOME ADDRESS ON AIR.

For Alex to harass mourning parents, a mourning community, just so he can fill air time to sell his fucking vitamin supplements, is impossibly evil.

I hope the court bleeds him and Infowars for assets like a stuck pig. I hope every blood soaked cent goes to the victims and their families. I hope the families get to spend the rest of their lives in safety, happiness, and even luxury.

so much rage for anyone who tells the story of the radium girls like “ohoho weren’t people in the 20s fucking stupid” and not like “corporate greed has always cost people’s lives and health”

History Lesson:

The Radium Girls were factory workers who painted glowing markers on watches. They pointed their paint brushes with their lips after being told do so and that it was safe for them to do so by their managers. The paint had radium in it to promote the glow.

Dentists became the first people aware of the medical complications happening amongst all the women working in this factory. Complaints of loose bones, teeth, ulcers, etc. began to circulate amongst the staff.

Eventually, the girls started to die. The first one’s jaw literally came off her skull before her death as a result of radiation poisoning.

Perhaps all of that you could say was “stupidity” on behalf of the workers and corporation.

But what came next wasn’t. The corporation, the U.S. Radium Corporation, originally called the Radium Luminous Material Corporation, lied to the public and said that their workers were dying from alternate causes such as syphilis. They continued to instruct their staff to work business as usual, perpetuating more deaths and illness amongst their staff so their product could continue to be made.

The Radium Corp offered to change the method of painting dials, but the alternative brushes slowed down work and they were paid by the dial. To continue earning the wages they needed, the girls were forced to continue to use the brushes that they had to wet with their mouths.

The girls eventually took the matter to court. They took it to court eight times because Radium Corp continued to appeal until 1939.

As a result of their win, which provided a settlement to each girl a lump sum, a yearly stipend, and medical expensed paid by the company, LABOR LAW changed to ensure that companies could be held accountable for not properly protecting their employees from disease. New health regulations and standards were put in place to keep workers safe and they stopped using the brushes after that point.

(I don’t have the data to say if there was a corresponding wage increase to factor for lost wages due to a slowing down after new regulations were made).

The point, though, is that this company willfully knew that its staff was geting sick and dying from the procedures they put in place, and lied to their staff and started a public smear campaign saying these women had sexually transmitted diseases instead.

That’s not on the “stupid” women, that’s corporate greed.
