āI donāt like this song because I canāt relate to itā skill issue. Iām mad at my husband I love my girlfriend Iām a lone cowboy Iām growing old Iām growing up Iām depressed I love my friends Iām perpetually horny Iām drunk at the club I love my husband again
The longer I live, the more deeply I learn that love ā whether we call it friendship or family or romance ā is the work of mirroring and magnifying each otherās light. Gentle work. Steadfast work. Life-saving work in those moments when life and shame and sorrow occlude our own light from our view, but there is still a clear-eyed loving person to beam it back. In our best moments, we are that person for another.

surviving the current age of internet means saying no to subscriptions and premiums for basic features. you must endure the inconvenience of not being able to use every server emoji in discord. you must build the patience to find alternatives like NewPipe so you can listen to music on youtube while your phone screen sleeps. do Not give these corporations your limited disposable income. tiktok not letting me view videos on my phone without downloading the app? i will outlast tiktok and the execs will be remembered as dull, disgusting capitalists. listen to me, listen to me. if you do not know how to pirate shows from hulu, learn. if you can't pirate it, it is not worth the money to rent it. please i'm on my hands and knees. do not accept this form of internet.

say YES to artist owned platforms. say yes to nebula for your favorite funny person or informative commentator. say yes or even join cartoonist.coop to support sustainable income for your favorite artist. use the money you saved from cancelling webtoons and commission a new artist for a silly icon pic. i'm telling you it's worth it!
Here's a reddit post with alternatives to start your degoogle journey

I think itās incredibly fucked how capitalism discourages learning for learningās sake. People will have interests theyāve spent years researching then say itās āuseless knowledgeā bc it didnāt go towards a college degree and isnāt part of their job. Learning is never useless! Your brain is growing and developing throughout your whole life! People would never have epiphanies or sudden lightening strikes of creativity if they werenāt learning new things! That goes double for topics like science, politics, and history, which inform your understanding of the world you live in!
The devastating difference between how much time it takes to write something vs how fast people read it lol
you're falling in the trap!! it will be read by many people, many times, and it will live on in their memories. and maybe no single other human will match you in time spent dedicated to your story, but as a collective we will outlast you. acts of creation only grow when they are shared
This. Writing is not like dinner. It can be consumed many times
The Farewell (2019)
āThe less love you put into things the more they resemble one another. The same goes for stories, everyone knows them by heart, but when someone tells them with love, I donāt know, they seem newā¦thatās what I think anyway.ā
ā AndrĆ©s Neuman, Traveller of the Century (trans. Nick Caistor & Lorenza Garcia)
Interestingly, my experience suggests that while it initially takes effort to notice something new, over time a change happens that is irreversible. Redwoods, oaks, and blackberry shrubs will never be āa bunch of green.ā A towhee will never simply be āa birdā to me again, even if I wanted it to be. And it follows that this place can no longer be any place.
āJenny Odell, from How To Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy (Melville House, 2019)
