Old orks are the best orks and I wont hear any different! Some more vintage boys are off the desk looking very sharp! Bonus points if you can spot the cheeky sci-fi reference in one of them...
Another scale modelling piece off the bench, a 1/48 F4U-5(N) Corsair. This was a cheap Minicraft kit I picked up as a warm up to a future aircraft build. I was disappointed with it as the panel details were non existent - which at this scale really shouldn't be a problem. The fit was terrible too, it was a real slog to get them to work in places. Hopefully the nice shiny paint hides most of the imperfections anyway!
Another modelling challenge piece my friend and completed last month, this time we each built a Revell 1/350 U-Boat. I've wanted to try some water effects like this for a while now using resin and gel medium to make the ocean. Don't look too closely at the model, this kit fought me the whole way with pieces breaking of going missing, but as a whole item I'm super happy with how it turned out. It definitely felt like a level up as far as basing goes, I'm keen to expand the water effects for some future projects.
I've been well lazy in posting here, so here comes a photo dump!
This guy was the last painted piece of 2018 for me. I really enjoyed bringing him to life, so much so that I immediately dug out the rest of my Oldhammer green bois to go with him! Expect them to be finished shortly.
Just finished off a month long build challenge with a friend. I sent him a mystery model kit, in this case a Tamiya 1/35 Pz II Ausf F/G, and here's my effort. I scratch built the antenna and couldn't resist adding the pith helmeted DAK soldier to join the tank commander in recon duties.

It's not my usual posting subject but I couldn't resist showing off what Sly Vixen made me today because it's so cool! I mean it is painting related, and who doesn't like Bob Ross? Normality will resume very soon once I hit the bench again, there's a couple of projects on the boil at the moment...
I’m still here, slowly building things as life allows it! Finished this neat 1:12 Yamaha XV1000 from Tamiya last night. I really enjoyed changing it up and building a bike, especially since I don’t have the spare money to build anymore full scale bikes at the moment. At least with the small scale ones they fit a little easier!
Hello everyone! Got some more Bolt Action for you today, in the form of a finished Stuart tank for my Australians. I don’t see myself using it in game a lot, but in a list that doesn’t have much in the way of heavy support(its either the Stuart or a Matilda II) it will fill a nice, cheap armour slot if I need it.
In other hobby related news I’m waiting on a new airbrush to arrive, hopefully that gets here soon and I can get started on the next project, a 1/12 scale motorcycle. As always stay tuned!
Its Bolt Action day today as a couple of squads march off the bench. Finished up is a Commando squad and a Papuan infantry squad ready for some sneaky jungle shenanigans! Really enjoyed these, the new Warlord sculpts are amazing with so much character. Cant wait to get them on the table.
I’ve always had had soft spot for Datsun 720 utes, my dad had a yellow dual cab version as a farm ute when I was a kid and it was the first car I learnt to drive in bashing through the paddocks. I have a lot of fond memories helping him at work and the ute was always a fixture. So when I saw this Aoshima kit at my LHS I knew I had to have it and build a single cab homage to Dad’s old beater.
The kit itself is not a complex thing, with a one piece body and floor pan, the conversion from Cali Minitruck to farm truck with just a hint of minitruck dna was fairly simple - as if teenage me had got a hold of it when dad wasn’t looking!
Instead of the blingy kit rims I used a set of Aoshima aftermarket 14″ steel rims and tyres. The surfboard was dumped and instead I scratch built some fencing paraphernalia to go in the tray. Dad’s ute was outside in the weather and had a fair bit of the dreaded Datsun rot, so I added lots of rust using texture putty and pigments, I also gave it a good dusting over with dry pigments to dirty it up.
All in all it came up pretty well and I am proud to have such a personal piece in my display cabinet. As it happened while I have been building it I bought a Datsun 720 of my own, so I may have to get another kit and build a matching version too!
As the year draws down quickly it looks like these will be the last of my completed models for 2017.So here they are: One finished Chaos warrior to round out my Bloodbowl team for now. I had some older Chaos warriors I was planning on using, but next to this guy they are so damn tiny I may have to wait until I can find some bigger models. No matter though, at least now the team has enough models for a sub if need be. I had plenty of leftover bits from the Beastmen box so I thought I’d make up a team banner, which sort of ballooned into a counter. I’m thinking it will make a good touchdown marker, although seeing its a Chaos team maybe a casualty counter would be more appropriate!
Wooo! The first minis have rolled off my bench in the new house. Here are the majority of my new Bloodbowl team “The Maul Blacks”. I’ve had this project in mind for a while, I played my first Bloodbowl league years ago with a borrowed Chaos team and loved every bonecrunching minute -sometimes we even picked up the ball! I won a Games Workshop voucher in a Facebook competition a while back and used it to buy a box of Beastmen to convert as you see. The Minotaur is a gorgeous old sculpt that I picked up at a Buy/Sell/Swap day at my old gaming club. Still to come is a Chaos Warrior to join the team, and a team banner too. Stay tuned! for more updates!!
Well that was a long time between posts! How have you all been? Our long awaited move down south to Tasmania has finally happened so hobby has been non existent while we’ve been packing, moving, and unpacking. The good news is my hobby corner has now been set up and I’m back at the desk again. First project in the new house is putting together my new Bloodbowl team “The Maul Blacks”. So far they’re put together, still need to clean them up a bit and I can break out the brushes and get cracking!
This weekend was the annual South Australian Plastic Modellers Association Expo, it’s a state wide competition attracting hundreds of beautiful entries. I entered 6 pieces this year, I thought some would do ok, but I wasn’t expecting to do quite this well! Out of the 6 pieces I entered 5 of them I won awards for. My rusty Sherman was entered in the Small Diorama category and received a Judges Commendation, my Doppleganger came second to my Hooded Rider in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Figures, my Harley Davidsons came first in the Open Motorcycles, and finally my Zoraida crew took away first prize in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy Gaming category. I would have been happy with that as a trophy haul, but it didn’t stop there! Zoraida and her crew also took out best Sci-Fi/Fantasy entry, and finally the last award of the day, the Best In Show Grand Champion!!!! To say I was amazed is an understatement, for little old me, a gaming miniature painter to take that out in a scale model show amongst so many beautiful entries is a pretty big thing. I’ll be riding the high for a while! You may have noticed I’ve been a bit quiet lately, that’s because I’m moving interstate and have everything all packed up. Hopefully I’ll be back to painting soon after we move in and posting again, because I have a fair few great ideas bubbling around in my head waiting to be put into paint!
Here she is all finished, my 1:35 Academy Mk III Merkava. Its my first 1:35 scale kit and its huge! Starting the painting was pretty intimidating but once I started it all flowed and came up looking pretty nice. The Academy kit has a few issues, and to fix them with aftermarket resin parts was going to involve replacing pretty much everything above the running gear, and cost 3 times the kit price so I decided to build it straight out of the box. The rear turret baskets are terrible, so I hid them with the tarps! The kit was supposed to come with white metal ball and chain armour, but mine was missing so I just used the plastic kit versions. The one piece vinyl tracks were a nightmare too, as were the thick decals to apply. In spite off all that though she came out alright in the end, a very nice representation of my most favourite modern tank if I do say so myself!
