Absolutely. I don't even have anything to add. The story ended up becoming exactly what it had been mocking all these years. LMAO.

my mom taught me the therapeutic power of cleaning. open all the windows. throw out the old. wipe down the entire house. burn some incense. roast some coffee. then rest. that way the tears from last night don’t feel as heavy.
She just wanted you to clean the house
No it’s actually been studied and proven that for people with anxiety and depression that it’s really good for us it gives us a sense of control, setting, and being well grounded. It allows to make a new place out of the old and is really relaxing
It is such a catch-22, that cleaning when you are depressed (and likely less able to gather the executive functioning to do so) also alleviates it. After having a good clean, I always feel more in control and less stressed. It’s the getting started that is the hardest part. The good news is, even a tiny bit of cleaning has a positive effect, so start with what you can manage.
Even if you just clean up the immediate area around you, even if you clean a little at a time or spaced out over days, you’ll feel lighter.
This!!
Even if all you can do is put three dishes in the dishwasher, or move the dirty laundry pile to outside the laundry door, or throw out that box of leftovers that have been sitting in the fridge for 2 weeks
it counts.
My therapy professor always gets his patients to just wipe the bathroom mirror when they’re feeling that way. Just the mirror, nothing more. But then by the time his patients are done with the mirror, most of them report “well, I was already in the bathroom, so I did the sink and tub too.” And before they know it, they’ve cleaned an entire bathroom.
My therapist once told me that, every day, I should try and do at least one thing that I either enjoyed, or gave me a sense of mastery. And honestly, the enjoyment thing can kind of seem overrated, especially when you feel like crap, but the mastery thing? Doing laundry or taking out the trash or whatever else I can bring myself to accomplish?
Holy shit, man… it’s /good/
This stuff saved my ass back when I had depression. Vacuuming the room, spraying some febreze shit and wiping some countertops works wonders.
tiny baby steps are helpful
do what you can, forgive yourself for what you can’t, and challenge yourself to do better tomorrow (and it’s okay to fail at this; just try again the next tomorrow)
i think about this a lot
so my partner and i are both huge good omens fans, but she hasn’t read the book yet and i have. and i think one of my favorite things is constantly having to reiterate to her that aziraphale is actually So Much More Of A Bastard in the book than in the TV show.
she’ll be like “aziraphale would never suggest harming another living being” and i have to be like oh honey. he suggested killing a little boy to get out of work. and then actually tried to do it and only failed because madame tracy said “um wtf??? no???” while he was possessing her.
and then she’ll be like “ok but what about when he revives the dove after the magic show at warlock’s party” they changed that for the show. crowley originally revived it after aziraphale accidentally killed it.
and then she’ll be like “aw i love how aziraphale loves books so much he owns a bookshop” babe people literally think he’s with the mafia because he will resort to anything but physical violence to avoid selling his books. he rents in one of the most expensive neighborhoods in London and never sells anything. the mafia can’t even fuck with aziraphale because he makes them inexplicably disappear whenever they come around and we are never actually told where they go or what he does to them.
“oh but he loves humanity so much it’s so sweet how he would do anything to save humanity” book aziraphale doesn’t want to save humanity, book aziraphale wants to keep going on little dates with his boyfriend and reading books that he won’t sell and drinking tea and listening to his records in his little bookshop because Heaven is boring as fuck. He actively works to avert the apocalypse because he would have to actually do his job otherwise. Crowley quite literally only manages to convince him to help him stop the apocalypse because he reminds Aziraphale how fucking bored he’d be without creature comforts. Crowley’s trump card was literally “help me or you’ll have to watch The Sound of Music.” and Aziraphale FUCKING AGREES TO IT. To get out of watching The Sound of Music.
Book!Aziraphale is a bastard, and I love him.
(I also love TV!Aziraphale, don’t get me wrong, but he’s been debastardized by like 70% and I LOVE BASTARD AZIRAPHALE)
Vetinari: everything I do is a carefully calculated move to keep the city running efficiently
also Vetinari: Yo drumknott I sent Vimes to uberwald this is going to be so fucking funny
To be fair, you can’t carefully calculate Vimes. Vimes is a shotgun solution that you point in the general direction of a problem, and he’ll solve the problem and anything in the blast radius of that problem
The upshot of this is that he winds up getting way more done than you were expecting - “Ah, Commander. Back in one piece, I see. How did the coronation go?”
“The Low King has publicly advocated for the rights of trolls and female dwarfs, the guards of Bonk have restructured into a proper watch force, the power of the werewolf clans has been divided, and we have an excellent trade deal on fat with Uberwald.”
“…Commander?”
“Sir?”
“What the fuck”
That’s an interesting one, the parallels between Detritus’s crossbow and Vimes himself are not something I’d ever have considered otherwise. The Piecemaker/Keeper Of Thee Kinge’s Piece. Both known for leaving holes in walls.
And, most importantly, it’s Vimes who sets the boundaries on when Detritus is allowed to use the crossbow, and the same goes for his own anger. He takes responsibility for both, because he won’t allow collateral damage. I’m not sure where I’m going with this train of thought but it’s just something to think about.
Vimes has canonically forbidden Detritus from using the Piecemaker on people (and presumably also dwarves, trolls, etc). That means it’s a weapon against property, which often translates to being a weapon against power.
Sound familiar to anyone?
i’m fairly certain the utterance ‘people and also dwarves and trolls’ would get you into some serious hot water in the late-game Ankh Morpork City Watch

This is the greatest map I have ever seen. I want an interactive version where you can click on any city in the world and get a pop-up list of all the climate-equivalent cities.
so it turns out this exists and it makes a fine rabbit hole for passing the time during a conference call

One like nitpick thing that drives me crazy is when people call Blue Whales the largest whales or the largest living mammals or some shit like that
Because yes that is true. But when you frame it like that you are completely disregarding the absolutely batshit reality that Blue Whales are the largest animals that have ever existed on earth through the entire history of the planet and they are alive right now today
Anyway, on fera jamais mieux que ce graphique du LA Times.
may i bring up the tricky&fun "distant adult family member a generation or more senior to you" case because im living with my great aunt now and i am dying
"God? -> yes -> Tu (believe it or not)" made me laugh. because yes! and English did that too! (see old hymns that use Thou for God, because yes, thou was informal. we/they talked about God as a Beloved Family Member and I'm not even sure I believe anymore but I STILL HAVE FEELS about that)
(side note, I find it very funny that English swung so hard towards formality that we lost our informal pronoun, and now we're swinging so hard to informality that a lot of us don't use Mr/Ms/etc anymore, we call our bosses by their first names, etc.)
Former First Lady of France Bernadette Chirac used the formal pronoun for her husband of 63 years?
A German regional court has ruled that Google is directly liable for the content of its AI search overviews. According to the court, previou
Let’s fucking go
This is HUGE.
1. The court holds Google responsible for statements made by its AI, considering them Google's statements (search engines have limited liability for results in their engine as they're the words of other sites/companies/people), meaning when their AI lies/hallucinates they're liable for the defamation/harm resulting from those statements.
2. Google's defense that customers are generally aware of the lack of reliability and are responsible for fact checking was dismissed. As the court pointed out, that would "significantly diminish" AI Search's stated purpose and it can't be distinguished from Google's business practices/statements as a search tool.
3. Studies have found about 91% of Google's everyday AI responses are accurate, leaving millions of searches per HOUR with potential liability for falsehoods. 56% of correct responses weren't supported by the sources the AI listed. Both of which mean Google is now liable for a LOT more AI "errors."
4. Google was held liable for 80% of court costs in this case and this precedent is expected to reverberate around the world. This is a massive shift from the 3rd-party search provider role Google has previously played and it comes right as they've tied ALL searches to their AI search.
TL;DR Google reeeeeally stepped in it this time.
Just watched Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) make such a solid point that I think we should spread far and wide. Yes, having AI write your emails is lazy, sure, but people love being lazy. We need to really emphasize that sending AI emails (or using AI responses on social media, or publishing AI flyers, or or or) is rude.
It's rude. You're making someone take their time to read something you couldn't bother to write. You're telling them they were so unimportant you couldn't be bothered to actually take the time to say something yourself. And frankly, you're lying about it while you're at it.
It's rude.
The above is doubly true if the content of the email is something that will be important to the person receiving - especially something that affects them negatively. They see that this thing that affected them so much didn't matter enough to you to write it yourself. I was a bystander to such a thing not long ago and it was just awful.
Swarovski can continue to fuck off.
In 2021, Swarovski (the company that makes the very sparkly crystals you see in certain jewelry, on figure-skaters' twinkliest outfits, on red carpet dresses), decided they didn't want the grubby fingers of small-time jewelers, clothing designers and costumers and crafters on their shiny beads and rhinestones anymore. They decided to limit their sales to "luxury" and couture creators, not girls who sell stuff on Etsy. The tenor of their press release on the subject was snide and insulting. Resellers (like your favorite bead shop) would no longer be allowed to carry their product; the average Jane on the street would not be able to purchase them. You could only get them if you had an authorized business agreement that bound you to very strict brand behavior. And those of us who still had good stock of the crystals would no longer be "permitted" to use the brand's name in our listings for sale.
Every bead shop and craft supply place and many, many small clothing makers--wedding shops, prom and dancing dress suppliers, the sort of salt of the Earth mom and pop time machines of shops that are the backbone of the field--scrambled to find something that could replace them. The last of the stock dwindled quickly, all of us grabbing what we could get while there was any chance of it, and then it was gone and we no longer had any access.
I was Big Pissed about it at the time. It was just so goddamn stuck-up, when wholesalers and indie jewelers had made them so much money, when some people I knew--when *I!*--had been brand-loyal for decades. But with no recourse, everyone pivoted fairly quickly, most of us to Preciosa Crystals. Those are Czech, quite sparkly, and considerably less expensive than Swarovski. The faceting method they use is different, but not worse; any differences are hardly noticeable when you're seeing them as a hundred pinpoints of light.
Well, out of nowhere, Swarovski just dropped this: https://www.harmanbeads.com/swarovski-brand-policy-update
"Effective June 1, 2026, Swarovski updated the distribution and brand usage policies introduced in 2021. Businesses may now purchase Swarovski Crystals without signing a Brand Control Agreement, and Authorized Distribution Partners may once again sell Swarovski Crystals to resellers, including bead stores and online retailers. Businesses may also use the Swarovski brand name when following Swarovski’s Proper Use Guidelines. Designers, manufacturers, artists, brands, retailers, and resellers are now eligible to purchase Swarovski Crystals through authorized distribution channels."
They want us back. A lot of the companies who could have kept a brand relationship with them also have swapped to Preciosa, over the last half-decade, in solidarity with indie creators and out of a sour awareness that it could be them, next. And it doesn't hurt that Preciosa was able to expand their line quite a bit now that everyone who wanted sparkle had no choice but to go to them.
And I'm not seeing nearly anyone who intends to return. The feeling is, "Y'all told us to fuck off! Off we fucked! And now, that's what you can do, too!" I'm seeing a lot of "How many of us did you stab in the back?" comments from the people whose money they're hoping to attract.
And personally I'm sitting over here all rubby hands, mean snickering, because they really thought they were going to be able to outclimb the people who actually provided all their profits, and now here they are, hat in hand.
"there is no way you're not using chatgpt for at least a few things here and there no matter your stance on it" what the FUCK are you talking about
