Was watching someone on YouTube talk about the boys in a series that is paired with the main girl character.

And what they said made me INSTANTLY think Lukanette.

“The fact that he knows her secret makes it all the better. That’s soulmate level material if you ask me.”

….you can’t read it and say that’s not LUKA! Luka is the one who knows. Who stands by her, even at the risk of himself being hurt. Who CONTINUES to love and protect the girl who hurt him because of said secret. If that doesn’t scream soulmate….you’re just wrong!

'Arthur is so dumb for not noticing Merlin's magic!!'

Arthur has been raised since birth to believe that sorcerers are The Big Evil. anyone who uses magic cannot be trusted, are the scum of the earth and must be killed without mercy. he has a vision of magic and sorcery in his head and Merlin does not match it.

he's not going to put two and two together because Arthur sees Merlin as a weedy little guy. he's clumsy and sarcastic and loving and trustworthy and loyal and a big ol' adorable dork who could never hurt a fly. he's witnessed him cry over unicorns and dragonlords he's known for less than a day. he hates hunting and hurting innocent creatures. he'll help anyone at the drop of a hat. his loyalty never falters. Merlin is soft, there's no way he uses magic aka the most evil thing in the universe.

of course he's not going to jump to the 'Merlin is a sorcerer' conclusion every time something weird happens. Arthur isn't dumb or unobservant; he's misguided, has his prejudices and the Merlin in his head doesn't quite match the Merlin in reality. Arthur not believing Merlin when he told him about his magic showed just how much he trusted him.

As a society, we need to go back to understanding that strangers on the internet are, you know, strangers. I feel lately that I'm seeing a rise in 'An author I love blocked me because they took my comment the wrong way' posts on the ao3 subreddit, and then the comment is them calling the author a fucking bitch or something like that.

Don't do this. Tone doesn't translate well in text, and if you don't have a rapport with that author, they are not going to interpret, 'You're a fucking bitch' as, 'Author I hate you for being so talented and making me feel so keenly.' They're going to interpret it as you being an asshole. You can shit talk with your friends because you have an established relationship with them and can distinguish between playful banter and genuine anger. You do not have this with a stranger, no matter how much you like their fics. You will have a much more pleasant time in fandom and not get cockblocked from interacting with your favorite writers if you remember this.

not my tweet or my fic (and there’s a good chance of this comment being a bot) but yeah, don’t do this. sure, some writers wouldn’t mind having fanfics (or direct continuation) of their fanfics written by someone else. some may even be thrilled and happy. but the fandom etiquette is that if you want to write a fanfic or a continuation of someone’s fanfic, YOU POLITELY ASK THE WRITER FOR THEIR PERMISSION. not their readers.

also 5 months isn’t long at all. 5 months is 5 minutes when it comes to fanfics. I’ve waited years for my favorite fics to get updated (one of my favorite fanfics was updated by the author after 13 years) and I’ve never said anything to them about “it’s been ___ years, I don’t think it will get updated anymore”. because another fandom / fanfic etiquette is that fanfic writers write for free in their free time, they don’t owe you anything. maybe they will update one day. maybe they won’t. if you want your favorite fic to get updated, you comment something like “this is good!! I’m excited for what happens next” and maybe your positive comment will motivate the author to update. but you don’t say “it’s been ___ months or years”. fanfics writers write for themselves and their own enjoyment. they’re just kind enough to let you read their works for free. stop being rude and entitled to fanfic writers.

This... someone posting this question on a writer's fic just breaks my heart and makes me want to scream. And that someone could respond "yes please"... 😭

So it's been a challenging year or more for writing for me. I'm not the only one - a lot of the friends I write with have found it tough for various reasons. There has been A Lot of Stuff going on that has made it hard to find time and headspace, and I've fought to stay in love with my fics sometimes. I've worked damn hard to put out the things I have managed to write, and I have a lot more bits of fics going on behind the scenes that I'm trying to get to a point where they're ready to put out there. It's been a while and it has been hard.

Having someone, whether it's a fake bot or not, saying something like "It's been five months, I'm going to continue this myself" and someone else going "Yes!" would be a huge motivation killer. What I would hear in that is that the commenter has no respect for my voice and the way I tell this story - anyone could come in and finish it. What I would hear is that the gift of my time, creative energy and work is not appreciated - the reader just expects more content. I just keep imagining getting a comment on a fic of mine and being excited that someone said something, and then reading... this.

What does help when I'm in a slump are the comments that show someone's reading and enjoying the fics. And the comments that take time to give the details they noticed and the lines they loved are gold - those are the ones that make me take another look at the fics and chapters I've written and fall in love with the words all over again and want to write more of them.

Interestingly, merlin does the exact same: look at him, he doesn’t look at arthur in search of support like someone else may in such situation, Merlin can fight and protect what he can see. By putting himself behind Arthur and looking at everyone in front of him he is metaphorically pulling out his sword and putting himself in front of Arthur

Anyway, I always find it neat how merthur can protect each other in a way that make the other not feel like they can’t do the same
