i'm firmly against weddings and i think that family institution and marriage don't and can't keep up with the problems that any family faces nowadays but the wedding dresses are slaying ngl

Reblogging this because apparently some people need the reminder. Future croptoptux would like to mention that these reference URLs are not reliable. They're bad references but they're there so the average tumblrina doesn't fall into a pit with "where do I start?".
I would highly encourage you to look up the works on wikipedia and find a more reliable translation, preferably by a PhD Sinologist who is active after 1980, but no earlier than 1950. Pre-1950's Sinology is not the best reading material (pre-WW2 is still Orientalism; the Victorians are serial liars too. they don't care about textual integrity so much as it sounding pleasant in English, and that's not helpful).
Additionally, look at the political circumstances under which each writer lived. The vast majority of notable Chinese literature was written by people who were groomed to be bureaucrats. They're all very sensitive and reactionary to the events and conflicts of their eras. Laoshi drilled that into us so I'm reiterating it to you.
reblogging yet again bc some of you need it.

“eldritch horror beyond your comprehension” and it’s just a generic monster with tentacles and eyes
girl I’m comprehending you pretty easily you’re gonna have to try harder than that
I know I've made some variation of this post like three times in the last few years but I'll stop making it when it stops being revelant: Fiction can introduce political ideas to people, but exclusively engaging with fiction (especially mass market fiction) is not enough to develop any sort of solid political outlook, no matter how niceys and leftist the messaging and authorial intent behind this fiction is. If you actually care about discussing politics in any serious capacity then at some point you're going to have to bite the bullet and read some non-fiction literature about it.
A lot of people have to get better about this (I know I have to improve on this, and it's something I'm working to remedy). It's fine to *not* have taken this step yet, but if you're not aware that that's a step that needs to be eventually taken you're going to walk into a conversation about imperialism citing a cartoon like it's ability to handle Deep and Mature Topics™ makes it equivalent to actual theory and you're gonna embarrass yourself.
“this character can’t/shouldn’t be trans because it doesn’t have a purpose or serve their narrative” god who the fuck cares. sometimes people are just trans.
“characters shouldn’t be [minority] unless their [minority status] serves some kind of grand thematically fitting narrative purpose” tomatoes aren’t hard enough booooo 🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥
i have an ex-coworker, a very cheerful uncle, and we still send each other messages in wechat from time to time. it's only that our entire chatlog is just photos and videos of our cats and a congratulation or two on a holiday
yaoi is all men are good for
Fuck moon’s taking poison damage
*logs off tumblr and rereads the source material* phew... it was all just a bad dream.. . thank god...
people who learned about greek mythology due reasons that DONT involve having read percy jackson at 12 freak me out, like what the FUCK was going on in your life that you found out that zeus turned into a pigeon to woo his wife like HOW
Some of us had Xena: Warrior Princess and access to a public library.
Or just the public library. Edith Hamilton’s Mythology and Bulfinch’s Mythology were gateway drugs enough for me. 😄
sometimes it is too late to change somebody's mind. my father is pushing 70 and whenever i hear him say something like "we need to burn all the gays" (out of nowhere too!) i'm like yeah sure dad let's discuss how you worked for nearly your whole life and your pension is barely higher that the minimum wage and he answers "well, but what about the gays". jesus fucking christ dad. you think "the gays and the trans in the west" are stealing your money or what
a long time ago, when i didn't give up on him yet and we were arguing constantly on whether or not lgbtq+ community deserved to live (wild, i know), he patted me on the shoulder mid-argument and said "don't worry, if you like girls, we'll pay for your transition". what the fuck, dad. sure, i guess, the double enemy at home is better than a lot of enemies out in the wild or whatever
now that i'm older i know that i should have doubled or even tripled down but i was young and scared. he was better before and became worse and i can't help thinking if he could've been kinder if he had known for sure he was talking about his own daughter
I'm wasting time on youtube and I stumbled across this video where a woman from the USA is talking about how relaxed Australian airports are and she says "here, it's like they just don't know that 9/11 ever happened?" and I
I've heard some US-centric stuff before but holy fucking shit
Me hanging out on a California beach: "It's like they don't know that the 3/11 tsunami ever happened!"
I saw a post once saying that if your favourite youtubers haven't changed their content to be about what's going on with Trump you should stop watching them.
My favourite Youtubers are Swedish, Canadian, and English.
To expect all leftwing youtubers to focus on the US is nuts.
It's so fucking ridiculous. I've been looking for ways to block/select country of origin in my youtube recommended so it's not just constantly flooded with the USA talking about USA shit. Such settings do not seem to exist.
The same goes with trying to read news. You switch to the "world tab" and most if not all of it is about US or US centered. How about something about AFD being officially illegal? Or India legally recognizing trans women as women? Or Mærsk (a major gpods transportation company) just pulling out of Israel? Are these not big news? Do we really need to be aware of what happened in California or what next bill was passed over there? Like yeah, i guess what happens there sucks, but did you know Poland recently elected a president that could pave the way towards far right party coalition to rule over government? Are you aware of the recent Pakistan-India conflicts? Have you heard about any of these things? About abolishon of child marriage in Pakistan?
