Dean isn’t just drinking a beer. He’s performing a highly loaded gesture of desire under the guise of casual bravado.

Two of my favorite things in a teamup: Uriel and Metatron.

Uriel is gleeful to tattle on Cas about putting himself in danger, but Metatron is begging him not to, because "Dean Winchester gets so annoying and boring when he's worried."

We talk a lot about Cas not picking up Dean's flirtations, but what's Dean's excuse? Cas is not the only one fumbling the ball.

Sure, okay. Those grand gestures could probably be filed under "Apocalypse-related bonding activities." Or just plain ole "doing the right thing."

But Cas is consistently out here trying to put a finger in Dean's mouth. He’s making voices to make Dean laugh. One of those being was literally, “I’m the man you’re looking for,” followed by a smoldering stare.

He sends him dumb emojis, some of which may or may not be kissy faces. Fluster.exe is ruining Dean's life. He's melting down inside, nuclear fallout, reboots, and then gaslights himself into thinking it didn’t happen.

Cas is testing the waters, watching those waters heat up, then sadly wishing human behavior was as straightforward as that raging boner made it all appear.

something about the way cas grabs dean in lucifer rising RIGHT before dean takes a bite out of one of the burgers always sticks with me. it brings to mind myths where eating food in a realm not your own traps you there (persephone in hell, mortals in the realm of the fairies etc).

eating the burger is dean giving up on escape, resigned to his inability to change this alone. and it’s right in that moment that cas returns and pulls him out of despair, as dean so recently did for him.
