Great John Street Hotel - An Eclectic Feel
Situated in the upmarket Deansgate area of Manchester, in between the Museum of Science & Industry and the Opera House Manchester, is the Victorian school house reformed as a boutique hotel. The hotel prides itself on making each room have its own uniqueness and even just entering you can tell this room is special as you're greeted with stairs and grand-length-curtained windows.
Then the awe-factor comes in as you take in the room you will have the pleasure of staying in for the night. Music is playing on arrival on the Classic FM station with two freshly baked complimentary cookies that are worth reviewing themselves- they simultaneously were crunchy and chewy (as my boyfriend first noted), filled with chocolate chips and lightly dusted with icing sugar, so when even the cookies are wowing you, you know this is a special place.
So by the number of the cookies and the presence of the hotel, it has a perfect feel for couples or a perfect stay for lone business trips as it is marketed for. Coming up to Valentine's Day and an anniversary, it was ideal as a gift for my boyfriend and me- as well as it being close to my birthday. The vision of the bed needs no other description than that it was just a vision of luxury. This can be confirmed by the lit-up face of my boyfriend and also by actual evidence I took once we were settled in. It was even more amazing to me as I have a slight obsession with the colour purple, so to see our room with this colour palette was enough to give it five stars for me, kudos to the designer.
As well as a comfy mini-sofa at the end of the grand, luxurious bed, there was a flat-screen LCD TV with Sky TV facing the bed with a mini bar underneath serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and some chocolate. Adjacent to that was complimentary hot drink facilities and a small bottle of red wine to make a wholly satisfying stay.
In the corner of the room was a roll-top cast iron bath beautifully situated next to a slightly higher placed mirror with a lovely little 'bathe' sign on the wall. Two bathing robes can be found in the room, one next to the bath, on a stand and one in the wardrobe. There is also continuously heated towels kept in the bathroom thanks to an efficient hot towel rail. The cosiness of the bath placed in the bedroom corner adds that extra romantic feel for any couple staying. Or if you'd prefer a shower, the bathroom has a walk-in rain shower too in a lovely designed bathroom with toiletries and plug sockets for shavers. Have I mentioned a hot towel rail?
This room was a stunning little haven and is called the 'Baby Grand', the smallest out of the rooms available with four more 'Grands' higher up. So if you thought this sounded good, there are even more grand rooms available which one can only imagine will stun even more so.
After settling in for a little while, we went to the rooftop terrace where you can smoke here whilst keeping warm with heaters and lounging outside in comfort, on the trendy eclectic chairs. The rooftop terrace is named the 'Playground', and the stairs on each side of the building are named the 'Girls Staircase' and 'Boys Staircase', keeping in with the old school house history of the hotel. Walking down the corridors, there are historic pictures of the school with children in class photos or using the 'Playground' which lends itself to the unique and special feel to the building.
Not only is the building a beautifully designed one with friendly staff, it is also situated near the ITV's Coronation Street set which can be seen from the rooftop terrace. Now giving tours to the public, it makes a perfect hotel location for Corrie fans. As mentioned earlier, just around the corner, on the right of Great John Street, is the Museum of Science & Industry and on the left, is Quay Street with the Opera House. The upmarket trendy Spinningfields is located less than a five-minute walk away with high-rated quirky bars, pubs and eateries.
After a lovely meal out, we returned to our little haven and had a comfortable night's sleep with a perfect room temperature. Our stay had breakfast included which was open until 12 noon on a Saturday. After checking out, we headed to the 'Mezzanine' floor just up a level where we had a table set up for us with homely and inviting chairs. There was a buffet available with cereals, fruits and juices but we sat down and ordered two hot breakfasts off the menu. I ordered 'eclectic eggs' which was scrambled egg and cooked salmon on a muffin with my boyfriend ordering a well-cooked English breakfast. The server was very accommodating offering us toast and kindly topped up my freshly squeezed glass of orange juice. The breakfasts were neatly presented and filling, the best combination. A special touch was having little pots of preserves on the table with jams and pure honey but having a little pot of HP brown sauce made the touch for me, or there is tomato ketchup if you prefer.
Mine and my partner's stay here was a treat to say the least, the room was a lovely comforting escape managing to give the wow factor whilst still being homely. The location was spot on with a convenient Tesco Express store just around the corner onto Quay Street, a less than five-minute walk to Spinningfields, and you were never far away from leisure spots with more bars and restaurants nearby and a cinema and casino just a little further along. The breakfast was an added bonus and service was always very welcoming and genuine, the staff managed to represent elegance and pride whilst at the same time making you feel comfortable. This stay was a perfect one and I went away pleased that I gave a lovely gift to my partner and would love to stay again for sure.

The Clothing Lab: One Entrepreneur’s New Experiment
We all know business is unpredictable and is a definite defining term for risk taking and one business owner certainly knows this. After venturing into the clothing business with his own labels working with leading wholesalers, Tony Singh talks about his many years in the clothing business. We find out what it was like having a start-up production label company, the leading to its downfall and the lessons learnt along the way. And why now, the clothing entrepreneur, is looking forward to the online world, with his new company, The Clothing Lab.
Tony Singh and his brother first set out to achieve their prospects of opening up their own clothing business and labels, with Hazel Fashions, near to 20 years ago. They would design themselves and told of how they would roam around their local city centre to help spawn ideas. “We used to look at designer brands [...] and introduce it into our own workshop”. He talks about the different designs they came across with the V-neck and Polo looks with particular fondness of the jacquard fabric design, where the fabric has intricate designs woven in itself.
Speaking about the early days of the company, he tells us, “we ended up buying, designing, making and then selling [straight to the end consumer]” and how he came to the labels Occhi, Guizzo and Vincent Marcotti. Taken from the Italian dictionary, ‘occhi’ is Italian for ‘eyes’ and ‘guizzo’ means ‘flicker’. Tony tells of how ‘guizzo’ “is like a second glance”. The Italian words sounded good to them and so that is why they gave their brands the foreign names. This is not unfamiliar in the clothing world as the likes of Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Dior are all foreign brands that together with their names give that high fashion aura when spoken of.
When producing the clothes, the entrepreneur would make a sample of fabric, take it to the suppliers who would then mostly make their alterations in order to sell on. With Hazel Fashions, Tony also made sure his products were regulated, “before it goes into production, you’ve got to get it all passed through the lab”. They then spoke of how they would travel to the major cities like London, Manchester to Birmingham to see customers on a weekly basis and where the problems arised. “We did have a big customer base but they weren’t paying” and when he went around these cities “you couldn’t see all of [the customers] you had that many”. Soon after, Tony began to cut down his customer base, profoundly the negative ones that weren’t paying on time. This move would be the pinnacle one in bettering his business and would see him introduce his brand, Occhi. “We introduced our brand [Occhi...] and started giving that to a selected few customers”.
With their brand, they then saw a positive turn around where the suppliers were coming to them and were showing them fabrics before going to the manufacturers “because the relationship I had brought up with them, the rapport and because they knew that they were getting paid”. Now that they were getting better relationships and in turn, better products, other manufacturers were starting to copy their design which Occhi didn’t find as a negative “we were always ahead”.
After the surge in business with the brands, then came the downfall, as it happens commonly in business. “Slowly, slowly it started going [down...] the profit margins started coming down, your production levels started coming down [...] you could see what was happening”. Tony also proudly says “we did it the right way” when closing down as he saw many other businesses changing land-line numbers, declaring bankruptcy but opening up the next day under a new name, “I've never had to hide” and are pleased to have morals.
Speaking of the highlights of the brand Occhi, Tony told of how they were taking orders from well known wholesalers of Topman, Littlewoods and Blue Inc, “we got a lot of business from Blue Inc”. At the peak of his business alongside these highlighted orders, he also spoke proudly of how they got rid of the bad business to deal with “decent people” where when they dealt with a fewer reliable customer base, they were actually producing more, “cutting back our customer base really helped [...] I loved it”.
It was then after the downfall of Occhi and Hazel Fashions that lead to Tony’s new venture of The Clothing Lab, he then begins to tell of why he came back into the clothing business. “The reason why I wanted to do The Clothing Laboratory was because, you still keep your contacts and once I’ve done something, I didn’t want to do it again and thought let’s try retail, I enjoy selling”. The difference here though is that, Tony has taken the store online rather than just retail as such on the tangible local street. “With retail, I was getting a bit of negative feedback [...it was mentioned that on top of retail it was good] to have an online shop, [...] online definite”. After the shop fell through, Tony is now hopeful of the recommendation of the online business and says “the website is a totally new thing for me” and believes he can make this work just as he made manufacturing work.
With near to 20 years in the clothing business, Tony has had some “hard lessons learnt”, has seen his business peak and seen it fall. The enterprising risk taker of what entrepreneurship is, Tony has definitely taken this role. With his moral, paternal leadership styles, which he believes is a key successful trait in business, and the evidential business experience in the clothing field, Tony Singh is now taking to the world wide web and is excited for his new experiment in... The Clothing Lab.

The Anniversary of Social Networks: The Impact It Has Made on Business
Facebook reaches its 10-year anniversary this year, which is surprising considering the computer-online-social-media-fueled world we live in now seems like an entire age. How concrete has its mark been made in these years? What impact has it had on business?
With the incessant creations of social networking sites arising, putting it metaphorically, with them being built in our viral environment, it’s hard to remember the time pre-social networking sites and almost tempting to even refer to it as an age with the feel of social media being a revolutionary time period. It's hard to believe Facebook has been around for just a decade and in these years we have seen the launches of many more, a couple of these social networks that have managed to match Facebook and have brought their own benefits, like Twitter.
Of course when we think of social media, we think of Facebook and Twitter instantly but we forget to think of sites like Youtube for example. Youtube is a part of this as the site allows users to share, post and comment on online videos with their own profiles and channels. There are many other sharing sites for files, videos and thoughts that fall into the world of and contribute to the term, social media. Youtube too has only been around for 9 years, adding to the amazement of how recent the term social media has been settled into our vocabulary and society.
So how beneficial is this term and what impact on business is it producing? Right from the development phase and to the business plan of these social network sites, there has to have been points and persuasions as to how these sites will answer this question when thinking of financial income and you can guarantee Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder of Facebook and Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter would have written these answers or indeed liaised with others. Answers we presume would be that: the sites can allow businesses and individuals to reach out via online advertisements to their markets, to make opportunities for programmers and developers to really get to work and to increase awareness of brands. Ten years down the line, it is safe to say they have achieved this and the whole result being that the sites were created in the first place.
Alternatively to the age (couldn’t resist) pre social networking sites, now when you look around, you see almost always businesses being advertised on billboards, bus shelter displays, buses and television with mention to their Facebook and Twitter pages urging us to ‘like’ them. Businesses now adapt to include not just their primary messages of persuasions to consumers like what they are selling, but to add the crucial message to encourage us to go visit their pages on social networking sites; something they never needed to look into, a recent ten years ago. This clearly representing the need for the social network as it provides great revolutionary benefits to businesses and of course users. It complements the statement, ‘get on Facebook and Twitter, it can’t be wrong’ and it can’t be.
Reaching out to potential customers, increasing and creating awareness and connecting with customers, (the latter being the vital point) three points any business aims to work on and implement in any marketing strategies are now more accessible without added costs as enterprises seize the impact social media can have on their brand and profit margins.
Social media then, we ask. Rewarding? Yes. Advantageous? Hugely. Are you on Facebook and Twitter? You should be.
Our Blog for Clinique De Beaute Leicester on Megawhite Teeth Whitening
The fastest teeth whitening brand is now available at Clinique and it’s now on special offer!
That’s right, the fastest growing and fastest treatment of teeth whitening is now available at Clinique De Beauté. The Megawhite express treatment lasts around 20-30 minutes and can produce some remarkable results with some clients achieving up to 12 shades whiter on their first visit!
What is Megawhite?
Founded by Scottish entrepreneur Bryan Christie, the brand now has location in England, Ireland and recently is expanding in Europe. The brand you may not have heard of has treated a range of celebrities, including the likes of: the cast of Hollyoaks, Scottish rocker Biffy Clyro and former Miss UK Nieve Jennings to name a few.
Megawhite Express is a 0% peroxide formula that lasts 20 minutes. It is a laser teeth whitening system that provides immediate results for clients. It does not alter the structural or enamel features of the teeth and is pain-free.
Cast of Hollyoaks are using Megawhite.
Instant results.
How does it work?
The main whitening and cleansing ingredient in the Megawhite formula is sodium bicarbonate. It goes deep into the pores of the teeth – called the dentin – and oxidises the molecules that make teeth appear yellow, dark and stained. The Megawhite gum shield is filled with the Megawhite product and inserted into the mouth where the light is then directed at the shield.
Once the laser light hits the product, the formula becomes active. This releases oxygen that creates a pressure which pushes oxygen into the core of the tooth. The oxygen and cleaning agents, combined with the high intensity laser light, turns the tooth’s inner surface from a brown/yellow colour to a white colour, without changing or damaging the structure of the tooth’s enamel.
So, is it really safe?
With no other product in the world containing all of its unique ingredients and measurements, Megawhite is a record-breaking quick treatment that proves for results of healthier, whiter looking teeth. The ingredients can be found in everyday toothpaste with for example, Limonene; an ingredient that whitens the dentin of the teeth and cleans the surface and gums preserving oral health. The treatment also meets and complies with all current legal requirements in the UK and around the world and is a safe and effective procedure.

weirdoandherwords:
Hi I’m Becca Nicholson, 18 from Bolton and have no hesitation to inroduce myself for this cause. I have set this up and everything is completely legit and honest I feel I have to comment to add that extra validity.
Ian Isherwood is my uncle, also from Bolton, and 2 years ago whilst walking home from a pub; what resulted tragically from an innocent slip, he was knocked unconscious and laid in the icy conditions causing severe hypothermia which led to a state of paralysation from the neck down.
Since then he has been bed bound in hospital and is now moving to a care home which he needs a special expensive wheelchair that is urgently needed. Unfortunately it starts from £6000 and so by finding this online way of raising money, any donation would be entirely grateful and you can admire yourself for your own help to a man in need to live a little bit easier.
I am also doing a sponsored bike ride, raising money locally and any money donated through this page can count to that sponsorhip too. I am riding from Southport to Bolton, on a 32 mile bike ride and am currently in training to complete. I have received some sponsorship of a pleasing amount so far but far far far off a desired amount and hoping this will help to reach the required money. Any amount of kind donations will make my day.
Thank you and kind wishes
Becca x
“Even in the face of massive competition, don’t think about the competition. Literally don’t think about them. Every time you’re in a meeting and you’re tempted to talk about a competitor, replace that thought with one about user feedback or surveys. Just think about the customer.”
