Superman being unapologetic about his care for life of all sorts made this movie for me. He yells at Lois when she asks him why he stopped a war without the government's permission, because "People were going to die!" He tries to keep a giant, dangerous, city-threatening monster alive, or at the very least euthanize it humanely. While the Justice Gang throw every weapon they have at every threat, he goes around saving people, and also a squirrel, because every life matters.

He risks his life for his cousin's dog, because he was out there alone, and probably scared.

He gets upset at the Justice Gang for brutally killing a rampaging Kaiju and not even attempting to find a way to move it or at least euthanize it more humanely.

The only time he raises his voice during Lois’ interview is when she digs into his interference in geopolitics, because people would have died if he hadn’t acted. The only time he yells at Luthor is when Luthor abducts Krypto. The only time he cries is when Luthor murders someone he barely even knew.

I enjoy that from the little glimpse we saw from his parents we know exactly why he's that way. His Ma is headstrong and firm in her beliefs and his dad is a "mush"- a very kindly man who doesn't know a ton but believes in the good of humans and how important it is to care.

Thought this might help others who struggle when writing. I know I get in my head too much.

I know I periodically preach the gospel of Scrivener but I do want to say that like, as a professional author who derives 90% of my income from writing novels, it is sincerely the best solution on the market.

This is because it is fundamentally local to your device. Everything is saved on your device. It CAN also be synced to the cloud (only with Dropbox) but a) these are not naked plaintext files, so they cannot be scraped and b) you still have a local copy so if the servers burn down or are shut down or whatever, you will still have a copy.

Its backups and redundancies are so robust that if I ever have a problem with them it is in the direction of having so many backups that it slows down file loading (fixable by manually deleting them).

When you buy it (for a small initial outlay), you own it. This is so unusual in today's software market that I think it bears explaining: you buy a licence to Scrivener once, and it is yours forever. No subscription. It's like buying a real paper notebook.

It's also purpose-built for longform writing and has a load of features of which I probably use 10%. You could use it exactly like a Word or GDoc if you wanted to. Previously the purpose built bit had been the big selling point for me but in today's environment it's being in complete control of my files.

There is no version of a live online document service that will not be subject to AI scraping in the current climate. If you are serious about writing at all, you should be keeping your files local and transferring them, as necessary, in ways that are at least not the equivalent of printing them in the newspaper.

This is inconvenient but you can either have convenience or security. Your writing is your voice, your voice is valuable. It is worth protecting at the cost of a slight change in system, imho. I would not, as a professional, use an online service now.

The thing you gotta understand about Mr. Terrific in the new Superman movie is that he is always the smartest man in the room.

I’m still so obsessed with the Superman movie. God it was everything I love about him and his universe rolled into one. It was so perfect. I was unsure of having Gunn in charge and how he basically obliterated the old” dc movies. But now? I’m soooo excited for this direction from DC. I can’t wait for more movies! This is my DC. I hate the dark depressing shit. And the seventeen Batman movies that are all about joker. But this??

Mannnn. Superman IS punk rock! Being kind and soft hearted IS punk! And Lois was absolutely perfect too. And I know Lex is a bad guy but I have never hated him in any Superman related thing more than I hated him in this! Annnnd the supergirl cameo? Can’t wait for her movie. I might actually read the comic books just to satiate me. Plus the justice gang?? YES please!

I just can’t get over how good it was.
