i, personally, love to straddle that fine line between “fandom blog” and “record of complete psychological breakdown”

#don't take most of what i've posted before june 2026 seriously i am not the same person.

what is the point of a satire if you're putting millions of dollars in the pockets of the real life bad guy and giving him a cameo. and now the guy uses clips of the satire on his youtube shorts giving salesman advice. like i'm a dummy so i might be asking a dumb question but what is the point of a satire if it is only the people predisposed to seeing excess and greed as ridiculous will get that it is.

#i watched the movie last night because someone in a youtube comments section compared the social network to it #saying that tsn did It better #and it's true! it did!#in a way i think it may be just that. making a nerd like zuckerberg look uncool is way easier #than making a guy like jordan belfort look uncool #but like. tsn makes sean parker look pretty lame.#he's charming and has money and chicks but he's a charlatan. he's annoying. he's a pretentious douchebag. he's justin timberlake.#it would also be very easy to make a guy like zuckerberg cool. there was a moment in time not so long ago when people thought elon was cool #the women in the social network may be in the background but they're not nonentities.#the idea of Getting Girls is definitely present with christy and dakota johnson but they don't show anything more than necessary #erica albright serves the thesis of the story in a silver platter at the beginning. in the 2nd most iconic scene of the movie.#her words loom over everything mark does for the rest of the movie. he's an insecure asshole.#he is driven by his resentment for the girl that rejected him and the envy for his male peers who do something better than he can.#he is not a caricature either though. “you don't know what this is gonna mean to my father” “sure i do :)”#it humanizes him Enough and still makes Everyone hate his guts.#and the most important thing: he gets consequences! even if they're not accurate to real life!#the last time we see him he is friendless and still thinking of erica. and immediately proving wrong the woman who just offered him sympath #he isn't just trying to be an asshole. he IS.#twows sure paints the lifestyle as ridiculous. but where's the rest.#it makes a point of not explaining what exact thing that jordan's company was doing was illegal.#it barely showed anything of who he was fucking over and how #if you don't think there's anything THAT bad about greed and scamming and coke and misogyny of course you'd think this guy is goals!#just Showing and making no real judgements mostly worthless if you want to accomplish anything #the only scene that doesn't play any of those things for laughs and makes something resembling judgement is thee most terrifying one #which is jordan punching his wife‚ snorting a handful of coke‚ taking his toddler on his car and attempting to drive and then crashing #like we went from 5 to a 100. and then we go to 0 with jordan playing tennis in jail.#so like. if you're too judgy you might be preaching to the choir.#but if you're not nearly judgy enough you will have millions of young men thinking a rapist and scammer is goals.#idk what this is i just wanted to talk about this #wanting to be a cinephile when you don't want to tolerate misogyny is real tough.

blorbofication to me is when you love a character in such a laser focus way that you somewhat detach them from the narrative from which they are inserted and treat them in a way roughly similar to how you'd treat an oc for which you still have no story and just like to put them in situations just for fun. which there's nothing wrong with btw, it's just that it can easily lead to people forgetting the character engine in a narrative and not just a barbie doll

Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!

I tested this theory in the wild the other day at work. I was on a call with my department lead and a few other folks and I replied to an email the DL had sent me, thinking that, because he was on this call, he wouldn't notice when I sent it and would not catch me multitasking.

However, he replied to said email within five minutes, asking a question that required an answer. So I answered and was like "Also, I was going to apologize for answering emails during this call, but I see we're both here at the Devil's Sacrament, so I don't think an apology is necessary."

I watched him read that on screen and try not to laugh. And then at the end of the call as everyone started saying goodbye, he goes, "Hey, MJ, I meant to tell you. I like your shoelaces."

And I looked straight into my camera, stone cold serious, and said, "Thanks. I stole them from the president."

And the rest of the team was like, "What...the fuck...?" before he abruptly ended the call for everyone.

So now my DL and I know this about each other. He could be any one of us.
