Aside from all the other glaringly awful failings in that Chuck-awful excuse for a finale, HOW COULD THEY PLAY SOME RANDOM COVER OF CARRY ON MY WAYWARD SON INSTEAD OF LETTING THE CHUCKDAMN ORIGINAL FINISH?
THE EPISODE WAS NAMED AFTER THE SONG,
THE EPISODE AIRED ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE SONG'S RELEASE AS A SINGLE,
THE SONG WAS ESSENTIALLY THE SHOW'S THEME SONG,
AND INSTEAD OF ACTUALLY LETTING US SAY GOODBYE TO THE SHOW'S FEW FEMALE CHARACTERS, THEY REPLACED THE ICONIC ORIGINAL VERSION OF CARRY ON MY WAYWARD SONG WITH A 2-BIT COVER.
WHY?
WHY?
WHY????
it’s been two years, but i think that an icon like her deserves to be known about by more people.
her name was freddie oversteegen and she, at the age of fourteen, along with her older sister truus who was 16 and their friend johanna “hannie” schaft who was 19, was a part of the netherlands most famous all female resistance cell which was dedicated to fighting the nazis and dutch traitors.
among other things, they are known to have blown up bridges and railroads, smuggled jewish children from concentration camps and, as the tweet mentions, seducing nazis and then shooting them with guns that they had hidden in their bike baskets. freddie is quoted as having said that they “had to do it.” and that it was a “necessary evil, killing those who betrayed good people.”
though freddie and her sister truus were both lucky and survived the war, hannie schaft wasn’t. at the age of 24, hannie was caught and around three weeks later was executed by nazis, only 18 days before the netherlands were eventually liberated. she was shot with one only wounding her, and, before the final shot, hannie is quoted as having told the executioners: ik schiet beter, which translates to “i shoot better.”
though she didn’t survive, hannie is recognized as a national icon and a face of the dutch resistance, with her story even being retold in a movie from 1981 called “the girl with the red hair.” along with this, truus also founded the national hannie schaft foundation in 1992, on which freddie served as a board member.
freddie, at the time of her death, was 92 years old and the last surviving member of the resistance cell, with truus having died two years earlier at the age of 92.
though these women and all that they did played an important part in the dutch resistance, they are often overlooked in history outside of the netherlands. it’s important that they are remembered and that their work to save people isn’t forgotten. it’s incredible what they did, especially given how young they were, and they deserve more recognition than what they’ve gotten.
“I shoot better” Holy shit an icon
Outstanding
Keeping our promise to be transparent about state-sponsored disinformation campaigns
Hey Tumblr,
This past March, we made you aware of steps we took to take down an Internet Research Agency (IRA) disinformation campaign operating on Tumblr in the lead up to the 2016 U.S. elections. The IRA is a Russian state-sponsored group that attempts to influence global political sentiment using Tumblr and other platforms. Our efforts helped indict 13 people who worked for the IRA.
We said at the time that we would be on the lookout for additional evidence of fake Tumblr accounts affiliated with state-sponsored disinformation campaigns.
In the days leading up to November 6, 2018, we were provided information by law enforcement authorities, including a list of Tumblr accounts allegedly tied to the IRA. We immediately initiated our own independent investigation and we have now identified a total of 112 accounts that we believe to be IRA-affiliated. These accounts appear to be relics of past IRA activity. None of the blogs contained any content related to the 2018 midterm elections, and all of the blogs were dormant since the 2016 election cycle.
Although these blogs posed no threat to the 2018 elections, consistent with our promise in March, we:
Immediately terminated these accounts and removed the original posts;
Left reblogs of posts from these accounts in place for transparency purposes;
Are notifying you if you liked, reblogged, replied to, or followed one of the accounts; and
Have added the accounts to our public record of usernames linked to state-sponsored disinformation campaigns.
U.S. intelligence officials and law enforcement continue to warn that we will see attempts at foreign influence in the future. We remain committed to closely monitoring for signs of state-sponsored disinformation campaigns and will continue to review any information made available to us.
There are also things you can do to help stop the spread of disinformation and propaganda.
Be aware that people want to manipulate the conversation. Knowing that disinformation and propaganda accounts are out there makes it harder for them to operate. The News Literacy Project has this handy checklist (hosted by John Jay College of Criminal Justice ) for spotting their tricks.
Be skeptical of things you read. Disinformation campaigns work because they know people don’t fact check. Look for reliable sources, and double-check that the source really says the same thing as the post. You can also check Snopes and Politifact. Both are award-winning resources and usually have the latest viral claim fact-checked on the front page.
Correct the record. When you see people spreading misinformation—even unintentionally—politely say something in a reblog or reply. If it’s your friend, send them a message to let them know.
Most importantly, we’ll continue to keep our promise to be transparent with you.
Lads ye really should have thought through that abbreviation more. Those accounts are most definitely not relics of past Irish Republican Army activity.
happy st. patrick’s day, here’s a reminder that the english invaded and colonized our country, attempted genocide, when that didnt work punished us for speaking our own language and enjoying our culture to the point where precious few even speak Gaeilge as a primary language, brutally crushed those who attempted to rebel, ignited a civil war intentionally so they could keep the north, fanned the flames of the Troubles, allowed prisoners to starve to death on hunger strike to send a message, treated us like 2nd class citizens in both our own country and in the UK for years, CONTINUE to fuck over the north, and now attempt to profit off our national holiday by getting really drunk even though the alcohol issues that my country is famous for are due to the above reasons. have a good one
You’ll never hear of a perfect crime
They say that physical exercise is extremely important for health, but Stephen Hawking lived to 76 without doing any of it.
i know this whole damn city thinks it needs you but not as much as i do
Brits make such good movie villains because the british took over the world to obtain spices and yet don’t actually use any of them in their food
Also coz they brutally tortured and murdered half the planet
to: all the “heroes” of the second wizarding war, you think you’re so clever? then answer this: why were we blamed for starting the war, when you were always dressed in blood? why are we the ones labelled prejudice, when you never give us a chance? why are we called “the evil house”, when peter pettigrew was in gryffindor? we are slytherin. we think in strategy. we wear our green and silver ties with honour. and we are tired. so tired.
love slytherin, after all these years. (via ravenqueer)

If you care at all about the Irish language, check out An Dream Dearg on twitter. They're protesting against the DUP's decision to revoke a £50,000 bursary scheme which gave young people in Northern Ireland the opportunity to improve their Irish. Even if you're not Irish and you have no idea what I'm on about, please please PLEASE reblog and/or check out the link above. This is so important. Irish is a beautiful, ancient language and she needs our help to thrive, and she deserves to be treated with respect. Thank you/go raibh maith agat(agaibh).
three or four years ago I told everyone I know to listen to this band because I thought they were important and now people who have discovered their importance this year are so mean to me and about me. I want to quit the internet and I don’t know why some people can’t just enjoy the music and be thankful for the creators without being terrible and destructive and inhumane to a complete stranger that’s only ever believed in what they believe in
Remember when the clique was the nicest place you could belong? Where Vessel ruled the day and no one cared how or why or when you discovered tøp, and all that mattered was THAT you discovered them? When the only drama we had was positive and the clique brought joy instead of sorrow to the band and to each other?
I remember that. I miss that. Let's go back to that.
Take your hatred somewhere else. If you're causing problems for the clique, you're not a part of the clique.
