So, I don't really do trans characters that much cause I'M not trans, and idk how to like. Do it. But occasionally I mess around with a trans Halt au, which has become my weirdest way to predict my period, because whenever I start thinking about the au a lot more than usual, I always start my period like a week later. Even my bf, who is trans, has started to pick up on it. If I start fact checking things with him more often than usual he always asks me if I'm on my period or not and it's so weird. It's so weird, lol. Trans AU Halt is more accurate than a period tracker

That’s why I said after book 4. Like an opium addiction causes a life long chemical change in the brain. Will should have been feeling the effects/cravings for warmweed for a long *long* time. But the author really doesn’t mention anything after Will gets back. (other than one mention in The Lost Stories)

I understand why, but damn was Will’s recovery an underutilized plot point (hurrah for fanfic tho)

@gwynithh and I were hiking today, and we came up with an AU:

What if Will found a random object at a gathering, and then as he shows the object to Gilan, he turns into a five-year-old. He loses all of his memories of ever being a ranger, and everything in general that happened after his sixth birthday, but he does recall relationships, like Gilan being his brother, and Halt his father. Hearing the hearty crying of the confused child of course draws the attention of the other rangers, who think he's just the cutest, and Halt, being the one who ended up comforting the child, immediately sets the other rangers out to find a cure.

While hiking through the forest with Gilan and Halt towards the location where Will had found the strange object, the child starts running around and exploring having a good time picking up sticks and playing around with them. About fifteen minutes after a steep climb, Will is tired so he asks Halt to carry him, but he declines him. Reasonably, Will goes to Gilan next and the older brother promptly lifts him off the ground.

We didn't think about how Will turns back into an adult, but we do know that he has no recollection of what he did in his child form.

Will being so hellbent on getting revenge on Jory Ruhl was a coping strategy.

Will was robbed of having a family as an infant. Yes, he found his own family, but no amount of father-son-type bonding between him and Halt could ever replace the loss and subsequent trauma he experienced from being an orphan. Marrying Alyss meant he finally got to have an official family, and then she was taken from him, too.

He must’ve felt hopeless, like the universe itself was against him. Like he wasn’t destined to have a family.

As much as it ruined him, hunting down Jory gave him purpose. It was a distraction, a goal. I imagine if it weren’t for that, Jory wouldn’t be the one he wanted dead, but himself.

I like this interpretation but it also makes the first 5 chapters of Royal Ranger that much harder. All of the people that were left and should have been supporting him/giving him purpose didn’t do shit. Like of course Will is still fucked up after 18 months, y’all didn’t even give him bereavement leave!!

FORCED his son into being an assassin. desmond never got a say in the matter. and let's face it, if william was more than happy to physically assault and verbally demean a fully grown adult desmond in front of witnesses, what's to say of the treatment desmond must've suffered as a child and in private? no wonder he ran away, poor kid.

(i also find it infuriating that the beginning cutscene of assassin's creed 3 is essentially just william ranting about desmond. just the arrogance in which he says some of that shit makes me so mad: 'he had a heritage he chose to deny... it nearly cost him his life' HELLO??? so essentially what you're saying is that because he didn't want to be like you, he deserved to be kidnapped and tortured by your enemies. cool. noted. got it. thanks, father of the year.)

even when desmond storms abstergo hq to save william, and later on when desmond is about to sacrifice his life to juno & co., william gives him absolutely nothing. there's just no emotion there. that's your fucking flesh and blood and you can't spare a 'thank you'? a 'hey you did so well son, i'm proud of you'?

also the fact that layla gives william her condolences over desmond's death and his reply is simply 'occupational hazard' makes me fume.

he saw desmond purely as a commodity, as a pawn to train and utilise as he saw fit, and showed zero remorse for it - even after his son fucking died for the cause.

Or when Desmond is in a coma from his exposure with the Apple and instead of, you know, DOING LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE, he just tells Shaun and Becs to put him BACK into the Animus ??

If I remember correctly, in AC3, Des snaps at his dad and tells him HE can just get into the machine since Haytham & Connor are his ancestors too, and William immediately gets defensive and tells Desmond he isn't taking his job seriously and I'm just like... no but for real though. If this mission is so important to William then why isn't he going in ? Most parents would do that for their child. But not William. He gives no shits.

Haytham showed more care for Connor just by choosing not to kill him than William ever did for Desmond and that's saying something

for real though, and the 'you hop in the animus, he's your ancestor too' was such a valid point from desmond. even if william couldn't see that from an emotional pov as desmond's father, you'd think he would see it from a logical one as head of the assassins - because surely it makes sense, if you can, for them to alternate so that desmond can take breaks and avoid exhaustion, enabling them to find the information they needed faster? but no, that would be too clever for billy boy, wouldn't it.

i also feel like people who make comparisons between haytham and william can't seem to see that the reasons they even have sons are totally different. i feel like william only had a child with his wife specifically so he could carry on his assassin lineage. it certainly makes sense, given how desmond was forced into training from an early age. he didn't want a son, he wanted a dynasty. whereas with haytham, let's be real here, didn't deliberately plan to be a father but at least connor was the product of genuine love from a genuine relationship? (as a side note, hayziio is a ship i will cry about til the day i die, just saying)

haytham saved connor from being executed, tried to work with him in the hope that they would find common ground, and even left his journal to connor basically saying 'hey, i know i wasn't the dad i could've been to you - pls read my journal and it'll tell you why'

meanwhile, william can't commit to showing even an ounce of care or feeling.

honestly after being burned by so many lisenced ttrpgs being basic 5e rips lately (dark souls, hellboy, TRANSFORMERS) without a system or unique mechanics suited to its narrative didn’t expect much from the upcoming Assassins Creed ttrpg

But been looking through its quick start and actually surprising???

Like a popular franchise that ppl will come to for the name alone not being a 5e rip but a system suited to the narrative?

Not a pure combat sim but mechanics for parkour and social stealth rolls? And not shying away from the modern day aspect (I will die on the pro modern story hill!) but making it into a core framing device and gameplay loop ? Like hello!!

There are def some corny choices like it’s special dice mechanic, but hey at least it’s doin smth!

Who knows how it’ll turn out and how it’s suited to longform play (not sure how I feel about the quick turnaround of historical player characters) but it surprised me, and that’s somethin! Got my lineup filled for campaigns this year but maybe I’ll check it out next year after it releases
