take all of this as literally or philosophically as you want.
when the hebrews offered sacrifice to y---, this was done by fire. sacred fire would come and consume the burnt offering. blood would be poured around the altar (eating blood is explicitly forbidden in jewish law).
at pentecost, the spirit of God comes down on the disciples as if in the form of tongues of fire. the greek is very specific to use the word tongues. the original greek letter uses the term γλῶσσαι ὡσεὶ, hosei glossai, like tongues, or something similar to a tongue. whatever the spirit appeared as, we know it is heavily associated with a mouth. pentecost, really, marks the end of the cycle of christ's mythology: he has conquered death, and now the spirit of God is once again an attainable thing for humankind because, through the sacrifice of jesus, humanity is unblemished. thus God is able to consume us as he consumes the unblemished sacrifice as laid out in jewish law.
one does not subsume the other. it is merely a mythological continuance of God's desire to consume us. we are made in the image of God- that is to say, he made us to be like him, to be an extension of his own divinity. but God is wholly good: he cannot exist synonymously with something that is not wholly good, hence why the fall of man was such a serious thing. but God yearns for us. he yearns for us to be part of him- the loss of his creation is a wound, and the loss of God to us is also a wound (think bataille: "no greater desire exists than a wounded person’s need for another wound." that is why the idea that a god would become human and die is so fascinating.).
bataille says that the urge towards love is the urge towards death. so God loves us so much he would die for us, and he does. christ, as God, offers himself in the ultimate taboo: he allows us to become like God by offering blood to drink and flesh to eat: pure flesh unblemished by sin. to love God is to engage in mutual eating. simone weil said man eats God, and man is eaten by God, and it is true. God unmakes himself because he loves us and wants to be part of us, to nourish us: in being consumed by him, we too are unmade. this is decreation. if we take bataille's theory, then the only way to achieve this ultimate form of unity is for one or both to die, but as bataille says, "but the process entails one instant of continuity between the two of them. the first one dies, but as it dies there is this moment of continuity between the two new beings." this yearning of continuity between people is usually sexual: perhaps there is an almost sexual yearning between God and man. in any case, God dies so we can eat him. and by eating him, we are eaten by him.
