Released to Wander / Stains of the Pure

Most content here is dedicated to my fic, Released to Wander / Stains of the Pure, available on ao3 and FFN.

It centers around Sakura and Sasuke, but the twist is that they are in Bleach universe. Sakura is from Rukongai, and Sasuke is a second heir to the great noble Uchiha family, living protected in Seireitei. It's set a little before the Visords, or Turn back the Pendulum arc, in Bleach canon. And almost every one of your favourite characters is alive and "living" their best life!

Part 1, chapters 1-10, follows their childhoods and establishes who they are in this universe. Sakura has to fight to survive and through encounters with multiple other characters, decides to enter the Academy. Sasuke's family (and Sasuke himself) puts a lot of pressure on him to enter the Academy and follow in the footsteps of his mother and brother, but he's reluctant about it, fearing he'll fall short. However, the fear of failing is replaced by the fear of losing those close to him, so he decides to enter the Academy as well.

Part 2 starts at chapter 11 and is still ongoing. Again, it follows Sakura and Sasuke, and how they're adapting to the Academy, and, slowly, to each other. Also, Konoha 12 is featured, and a lot of characters from Naruto make an appearance. (I should seriously add more Bleach people... I will, in time...). Now includes a thrilling mission to the World of the Living, where the trio meets Rukia! (see, I told you I would include Bleach characters)

Currently has 21 chapters, almost 100K words and no end in sight. But I'm taking a step back. More info and a snippet here.

Why should I read this?

I mean, it's up to you, of course.

If you like Naruto, almost all of your favorite characters are alive and well! And they're not living under a corrupt government that forces them to be child soldiers, so you get to see them interacting with each other, with some drama and adventure added, of course.

If you like Bleach, are there questions you have about the creation and the current structure of Soul Society? Many of those questions are, or will be, answered. How do characters from Seireitei and Rukongai interact? How did the Shiba family fall come to be? Aizen's early schemes and the Visords will be covered, all through reletable characters.

If you've never heard of Bleach and/or Naruto, maybe give it a try? I explain a lot of how the universe and the power structure functions in the fic, and of course, I'm always available for any clarifying questions.

Outfits!

This is for this fic, probably won't make much sense otherwise.

Okay, so, I don't know if you've noticed but the Uchiha have their own language in the fic. I struggled a bit with what it could be and since I saw no need to invent something new, I decided to go with Japanese. Sakura and Sasuke have very different POVs, something which is also reflected in the language used. I can go on about this, if anyone is interested, but for the sake of the post, I'll keep it short and focus on the outfits, because it's not something I've described in detail, I feel like.

First, all of you are free to imagine them wearing whatever you like. But for me, in my head, their outfits are Bleach coded. So, a lot of edo period japanese outfits and I'll give out a couple of examples, and how that reflected in english/Sakura's/everyone who isn't Uchiha POVs

Second, this is in no way historically accurate. Just fun for those who have trouble picturing things.

Third, I made this a while ago, but decided to put it in my queue. And I kinda cooled off on the strict boundery between japanese and english that was needed in the earlier chapters. Anyway, yeah, I might come back and expand this.

The Soul Reapers/Shinigamis wear a Shihakushō (lit. Death-Conquering Robe) - most commonly referred to as a uniform in my fic

This includes:

shitagi = undershirt (white collars and tips of sleeves are visible)

kosode = the black shirt/robe

hakama = black pants

hakama-himo = those are the ties, white bows here

tabi = socks

waraji = sandals

So the japanese names would come up if, for example, Sasuke described his uniform, and the English equivalent will be used by everyone else.

Also, captains have a haori, the white robe that goes over everything, with a division's number on the back. This is referred to as the captain's robe.

2. Student's uniforms

Same thing basically, just different colours. For the fic, it's important that one of the circles on the chest (Academy's emblem) is replaced by a clan symbol from Naruto for the Konoha 8 (+Neji)

The first two points are the most important ones, basically everybody wears some kind of variation of this, and is what I picture when I say uniform/robe/outfit/whatever.

3. Naruto fashion

Almost every Bleach character (if they're important) have some kind of an accesory (as seen best on the second picture, with the captains). This is where the Naruto fashion comes in! Every character will have something dinstinctive about them, inspired by Naruto canon and will be described in the fic.

This is an add on: like, the fashion is inspired by Naruto, but let's be real, Kubo has far better fashion sense, so it's kinda elevated? And all of this will probably come much later lol

4. Naruto armor/chainmail = kusari katabira

For those of you who maybe don't know or never paid attention to it, Naruto character's don't actually wear fishnets undearneath their clothes. It's a type of armor, called kusari katabira, similar to european chainmail, that has been simplified in manga drawing and represented by this diamond pattern you see on every other character. This shirt is something that was gifted to Konoha 8 in the 13th chapter andy they will wear it underneath their uniforms when they go on missions and such.

5. Yukata - "summer garment" - the kids and the others usually wear something like what Renji is wearing below (especially Sakura in earlier chapters, in Rukongai, and she calls it "robe")

So, um, yeah, this is kinda it for now, just wanted to post it to not have it in my drafts 😅

proof of life: okay after doing the calendar I moved onto writing out the bleach timeline and pinpointing exactly where and when the story is taking place - under the cut is a nonsensical ramble that may include spoilers, so…

And I low key hate Kubo. Because he is a great writer!!!! And I can’t hate him. And I knew that before I started writing, but I didn’t concern myself to this degree with this. I did go over the timeline - okay wait before that, my thought process while I was figuring out everything. I wanted them to be like shippuden aged, late teens, so that they would be like more mature when they get to Gotei, like keep it YA. Which is something I didn’t have to concern myself with bc this man (https://bleach.fandom.com/wiki/%C5%8Cetsu_Nimaiya) is 2000 years old. The ages don’t necessarily influence how they look, and how a character matures in Bleach wasn’t explained. It didn’t have to be, it’s not important. But I had to do this to myself and complicate everything (not really, just in my head) and I had the idea to make them like in their twenties through the later part, but also the problem is I don’t know where to stop, or when I’ll finish the story because I do think it would be fun to at least have snippets of Konoha interacting with main Bleach plot somehow. But, I did maybe save myself by writing in this guy (https://bleach.fandom.com/wiki/Hidetomo_Kaj%C5%8Dmaru) as someone older than them (like a couple of years). So I do think I can bullshit my way through keeping them looking like they’re 20. Imagine something between the last movie and Boruto. Age doesn’t matter that much in Bleach universe - how someone looks - but it’s a crossover and I used their ages as an easier way to portray that they’re developing. And starting with characters that look 20 and having the plot that I have in my fic wouldn’t work. I want them to be kids.  

Okay, so the next part when I knew they’ll be like late teens and I needed to put them somewhere, that would have some action, but not main Bleach action because it would probably involve replacing Bleach characters I like/love. I want all of them. Together. I’m being greedy. And it would be too much to develop Konoha characters while the shitshow is going down. 

And then I slapped myself because I remembered the fricking Visoreds. They’re *perfect* and the whole plot is perfect. Also, I was like, yeah, it would be cool if they witnessed Rukia’s death and to use it as a trauma bound between team 7 [this sounds so dark omg I swear I’m normal]. Problem: Rukia dies approximately 150 years before the main Bleach plot. Visored happened, canonically, 101. years before. 112. years before Rose became captain, who I already wrote in as a Captain. 110. years before Urahara becomes Captain, which I have to write in. And a bunch of important bleach characters need to go to the academy as well.

Do you see the problem? math isn’t mathing. But math is not important when you’re writing. I gripped that approximately and used it as a jumping rope, because we can’t and shouldn’t trust approximately blindly. Rose fucked me up a little, but that’s one year. It’s fanfiction.

But. If I write that they’re (Konoha kids, keep up, you’re doing great sweety) in the Academy during the 110. year when Urahara becomes captain, which I was planning to do. I have a whole ten years between that and Visoreds. A decade. I can’t write a whole decade. It took me 50k words to cover two months. Not even full two months. Like, yeah, I want to develop some relationships, but not over a decade. And I don’t want to time skip that much. Bc it would be like okay they’re holding hands. Blank. five whole ass years passed. New chapter. The characters have not developed at all. We’ll now cover a week where everything important happens and they idk kiss. Blank. two years. Yeah, they’ve been at the kissing stage for the last two years. 

You get it. I want slow burn, not torture. [This can be written well, don’t get me wrong. But not by me.] And I do want to explore the Bleach universe to this degree. Because it deserves it so much, it’s such a good place.

Also. I’m not done. We have another time skip. This time 50 years. So like halfway between Visored/what I’m currently writing and the main Bleach plot. And here we have Byakuya, Hisana, Rukia, Renji, Kira, Hisagi, Momo. Which is also important. (like I planned this part in interactions between Hisagi and Sakura, or/and Byakuya and Sasuke, not covering them in detail, more how that influences SasuSaku).

Again. I can't write about 50 years. Five whole decades. Which is half a century. I can’t. 

You thought we were done? Oh, honey. We have another time skip - 30 years. when the trails for the main Bleach plot are scattered. Isshin, Masaki, Kaien, Rukia, Aizen, Gin, Tosen. And Quincies. Incredibly important. Should they have a kid here? But I don’t want them yet. But it would make sense. And I do want Sarada. And the rest of the kids. Some. Not all necessarily. Don’t know about that part. Because I would rather write SasuSaku as parents having a job and juggling kid(s) and having support (because uchihas are alive) then sending Sarada as a character into the main Bleach plot. The weird way souls mature would actually be helpful here. 

And yeah. In the end. We would end up with another time skip. To the main Bleach plot. Where I would like to squeeze in Konoha kids somehow. I have some ideas. 

Now. This was the part that covers how Bleach plot intervenes into my plot. I have some plot of my own. I swear I do. And I do have some solutions: write a tragic dark love story where everyone dies and nobody is happy and that’s why we don’t see them in bleach canon, and Aizen wins, establishing how powerful and smart he is. This would go so hardddddd. But I love myself and my mental health. The first thing that comes to me are morbid solutions, think light dd:dne, and I have to tone myself down. And force myself to think happy thoughts. And write something fluffy. Balance is everything. I can’t kill them all off [but i may write a short story, snippets if/when i’m done with this because i do have some cool ideas and not everything needs to be this long but i also have another couple, not from any on this i would like to write about “darkly”]. So no, I don't want that. Another is butchering the Bleach timeline and compressing it further. Which is great for my characters. But not for everyone else in the Bleach universe. Their age does matter, at least to a degree. To me?The more I wrote about this, the more I don’t care about the numbers. Maybe. I hope. More like I’m concerning myself with something that isn’t actually a problem. People are dying, Kim. And I accounted for some time skips. But not this much. Btw this is something that goes in my head and writing it out helps to get it out of my head so I can focus on other things. I’m posting because I can? And if you read this (it's over 1k words btw) you do know I’m not this crazy? And I have other things to talk about. You can reach out and ramble on with me. That’s all.
