Pearls from the Qur'an (Ramadan 2017 Khatirahs Part 9): Intoxicants: The Filth of Shaytan
The Right Approach to Duaa - Khutbah by Nouman Ali Khan
Have you heard of the term “placebo effect”? In simple medical terms, placebo effect refers to taking a non-medicine (for eg: a sugar pill) believing that it will cure you and it does. In case of a placebo effect, the recovery of the patient is due to the belief and positive attitude that he has …
“In Surah Kahf Ch 18, v60-82, in order to demonstrate the limited knowledge a human has of the future and the wisdom behind adverse events in life, Allah narrates us the story of Musa (A.S) and Khizr (A.S). Khizr (A.S) was blessed with special knowledge from Allah (SWT) and Musa (A.S) was curious to know about it. So he seeks permission to accompany Khizr (A.S). Throughout their journey, Allah mentions 3 significant events, which I would like to share with a different perspective ...”
Have you smiled today? If yes, then this is to add more smile to your face and if not, then this is to make you smile today. in sha Allah. Often times, when you think so much of the things happening in your life it causes you stress. Stress in thinking of solutions to your problems and how to have ease from your situation, right?
You have to think so much that you forget to smile and realize how blessed you are to be a slave of Allah Azza Wa Jall.
So here’s a story to lighten up all those stressful burdens and problems in your life right now. _____ Have you heard of that story about the Prophet ﷺ riding a mule?
Imam Ahmad reports in his Musnad, with an authentic chain of narration, that Mu’adh IBn Jabal Radiyallahu Anhu narrated that once the Prophet ﷺ mounted his mule named Ya’foor which had a birdle made from the bark of a date-palm.
When the Prophet ﷺ was settled and seated, he said: “O Mu’adh, you ride too.” Mu’adh said, “Go forth, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” The Prophet ﷺ said again, “You ride too.” Mu’adh RA then also mounted the mule. Mu’adh said: “I also climbed onto the mule and sat behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. As the mule trotted forth, it tripped and fell down with both of us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ rose up quickly and laughed, while I stood up with regrets.”
Mu’adh says: “We climbed the mule again but fell down again. Again, we climbed and again we fell down. Finally, we climbed and went forth.”
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stretched his hand behind him towards me, nudged my back gently with his whip or staff and said: “O Mu’adh, do you know Allah’s rights on His slaves?” I said: “Allah Azza Wa Jall and His Messenger ﷺ knows best.” He ﷺ said: “Allah’s right on His slave is that they worship Him alone and not ascribe partners to Him.” We kept on moving then he again extended his hand in my direction and nudged my back gently and asked: “O Mu’adh, O the son of Umm Mu’adh, what are the slaves’ right on Allah if they do so?”
I said: “Allah Azza Wa Jall and His Messenger ﷺ knows best.” He ﷺ said: “ The right of the slaves of Allah, if they do so, is that He admits them to Paradise.” _____ Indeed, this is such a heart warming story about the rights of Allah Azza Wa Jall over His slaves as well as the rights of the slaves of Allah. It is also so beautiful to know that the Prophet ﷺ was such a soft and smiling person. Jabir Ibn Abd’Allah Radiyallahu Anhu once said, “Whenever the Prophet ﷺ looked at me, he smiled.” My dear brother and sister in Islam, think about this story when you feel like you are so bombarded of the problems you have in life, by Allah, with just the thought of Jannah all these problems can fade in an instant. Let us all strive to be dwellers of Paradise. _____ May Allah admit you, your family, your loved ones and every Muslim to Paradise. Amin _____ Hadith of Mu’adh Ibn Jabal was taken from: • Musnad Ahmad 238/5 • Al Bukhari, Hadith 7273 • Muslim, Hadith 30 Hadith of Jarir Ibn Abd’Allah was taken from: • Sunan An Nasa’i Al Kubra 5/82 Story was taken from Nafs Book, Umm Umar Khaled, pp.144-145

The importance of Salaah in Islaam is so great that even sitting and waiting for Salaah is considered worship itself!
Sheikh al Fawzaan [Fadhaa-il as-Salaah, p. 13] (via asifeq)
If you ask God to bring you back to Him, don’t be surprised when He removes the people from your life who have served to take you away from Him. Don’t be surprised when He removes your distractions from you; He’s making it easier for you to serve. Because having God in your corner is the best thing you can ever have.
THE QURAN TEACHES US TO BE OPTIMISTIC
I always find myself questioning the things I do, even if I was the one who opted to do it from the beginning. I frequently ask myself whether I’m doing the right thing. Whether there’s any good in the things I choose to put myself in. The school I go to, the activities I join, the events I attend, the friends I choose to keep. Are my decisions going to benefit my future or are they just a waste of time? I wonder if I’m really doing anything right these days. You see, I have always had this fear in me. This fear I can’t specifically explain. I often am afraid if I make the wrong choices, especially when I have to make big important life decisions. What if my plans don’t work out? Who will I be in 10 years? Will I ever really figure it out?
I hate self-doubt. You know when they say we are our own biggest critics, they’re hella right.
Sometimes, the plans that I have for myself, are not exactly the plans that Allah has for me. I get myself in a relationship, and it ends tragically. I take up a course I thought I’m good at, and later fail miserably. I apply for a scholarship, but then find out I was rejected. I plan to graduate on time, but got sick and am told to defer my studies. All these circumstances, it all leads to self-doubt. Will I ever be good enough for anything?
A few days ago, I was reading Surah Al-Kahf and stumbled upon a verse that struck a chord with me. It was so beautiful I made it my phone’s wallpaper lol. The verse goes:
“Except “if Allah wills.” And remember your Lord when you forget & say “May my Lord guide me to what is right” (18:24)
Perfect timing. This verse isn’t only a do’a but also a statement of optimism. “Asa” according to the arabic language is a verb used to express hope. Subhanallah, Allah is teaching us that the most fundmental thing we need is His guidance. He is teaching us that in the end, He knows best what is good for us and all we have to do is give our best in the things we do. The rest is Allah’s job. I learnt that if we do what is good, our effort will never go to waste, even if things don’t turn out the way we want it. Our compensation is with Allah.
The verse screams optimism. It says “when you forget” because whenever something bad/failure befalls us, we tend to lose hope. We are bound to feel lost & confused. Been there a lot of time. So this powerful verse is telling us ‘no, don’t give up, hang in there and ask Allah to guide you’. He created us, He created the stars and the universe, so He definitely knows what is best for us. Whatever happens yesterday, stays there. If we have failed in the past, that failure should not dictate our future.
“Amazing is the affair of the believer, verily all of his affair is good and this is not for no one except the believer. If something of good/happiness befalls him he is grateful and that is good for him. If something of harm befalls him he is patient and that is good for him” (Saheeh Muslim #2999)
So I guess we will never really have all the answers, but it’s perfectly okay, What we do know is that we can always ask Allah to guide us to what’s the best for us.
As long has we put our trust in him, we are in good hands.
Four Unbreakable Promises from Allah
1) ‘So remember Me; I will remember you.’ [Surat al-Baqarah: 152]
2) ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]…’ [Surat Ibrahim: 7]
3) ‘Call upon Me; I will respond to you…’ [Surat Ghafir: 60]
4) ‘…and Allah would not punish them while they seek forgiveness.’ [Surat al-Anfal: 33]
Even though we break our promise with our Lord, always remember that He will never break His.

Hello again, I am the same questioner regarding people who claim that God is so nice that he wouldn't put people in hell for not believing in him. They essentially believe that so long as they are a good person (whatever that means according to them) then God isn't going to be petty and put them in hell for not believing in God. Does your rebuttal suggest that one must believe in God to be a good person? Meaning one can seek rewards from else where but at the same time not go to hell?
I don’t care to have those sorts of conversations anymore.
I’m not God. I don’t know who is going to heaven or hell. I don’t pretend to.
I’m just curious as to why someone who says they don’t believe God, needs validation from someone who does? Why do you care? If God doesn’t exist, shouldn’t the entire question of whether He will put you in heaven or hell be meaningless to you? Because it obviously isn’t if you are talking to people about it.
As far as “being a good person,” ehhhhhh.
Everyone thinks they’re a great person.
But we forget about that time we had a bad day and was mean to that person.
We forget about that day we lied to that friend.
We forget about that day we talked trash about someone who was supposed to be our friend.
Those days are excused, because you’re a good person, right?
But when someone else does something, we hold onto it like the plague.
That’s why God is so central, because God is Truth, and Truth doesn’t change, and so if someone needs my validation, I think it’s not about God or not God, it’s about them.
I don’t need to ask other people to recognize that my favorite food is this or my favorite color is that. It’s mine.
If all it took for someone to get into heaven was to recognize God, and to act accordingly, why is that so puzzling a concept?
The recognition of God is not a guarantee to purity, but I am skeptical of those who (religious or not) say they are good people. Everyone thinks they’re good. We just get to find out if we’re right or not when we die.
