Adrien is NOT a sentimonster.
OK with Risk a lot of people are saying that theroy is confirmed. No it isn’t.
Spoilers.
OK so Gabe has been using that ring to influence Adrien all season
However I always thought it weird that he needs to fiddle with it in a specific way, no other Amok works like that.
The fact that Nathalie was only wearing it while ordering FELIX to do something, confirms its Not Adrien’s Amok.
So Adrien is simply a victim of social conditioning.
One amok=one sentimonster.
If its Felix's Amok, which it almost definitely is, it can't be Adrien’s as well.
Why Gabriel's "finger snap to make you disappear" threat was not literal
Y'all... it makes no sense for Gabriel's finger-snap threat to be about "releasing Felix from existence" AKA killing a sentimonster. He was literally denying being Shadow Moth in that same scene. We know that the only one who can kill a sentimonster at the snap of a finger, without destroying the amokized object, is the wearer of the Peacock Miraculous. AKA Shadow Moth. Another way for sentimonsters to be killed is by destroying the amokized object, which, if it's assumed to be the stolen ring, Gabriel didn't currently have (he was asking Felix where it was in that scene). It makes no sense for Emilie's ring that Gabriel was wearing to hold Felix's amok, as that's not the ring Amelie wanted back in Season 3. (Hell, it makes no sense for either of their rings to hold Felix's amok - why would Felix's parents let his amok be used in another couple's wedding ceremony and worn in another country for over a decade?)
For him to imply that he is capable of killing Felix by literally just snapping his fingers would be to admit that he is the Peacock holder. Which is the opposite of what he intended in that scene. The only way this scene makes sense is if Gabriel's threat is taken figuratively, as in "I can ruin your life and make you disappear effortlessly." It could've been a threat on Felix's life, but via conventional murder rather than a magical way.
And this is why it doesn't make sense to say that this scene confirmed that Felix is a sentimonster. I'm not completely denying that Felix and/or Adrien are sentimonsters. I believe this theory might be canon for at least one of them. I dislike the theory for several reasons, but I think it has a chance of being canon in some form. I'm just sharing my thoughts on this debacle and specifically debunking the widespread claim that Gabriel was threatening to snap Felix out of existence then and there. It simply makes no logical sense.
If Felix does turn out to be a sentimonster, then this line was probably just a wink at the audience - deliberately phrased in such a way to parallel the killing of sentimonsters, but not meant to be taken in a literal way from Gabriel.
Non-Human’s aren’t worth much
Today, I’m gonna talk to you guys about a narrative device / story trope called “What Measure Is a Non-Human?” This device refers to the choice a creator might make to question the distinction between human and non-human. In terms of censorship, it refers to how, especially in children’s media, you can inflict worse fates on explicitly non-human characters than human ones without the people funding your project trying to axe your story. It’s basically an excuse to rack up a body count without there actually being a body count because the things being “killed” are not human and are, therefore, not really being killed. You can’t kill something that’s a thing.
Thomas Astruc has worked with children’s action/adventure shows for years. He knows about this story device, he has even taken advantage of it. Aeon and Sentibug were killed on-screen and Miraculous Ladybug is still rated TV-Y7 or the equivalent in most countries. In contrast, Batman: Mask of Phantasm, an animated kids’ superhero movie, where human characters die nonviolently on-screen, is rated PG.
Even in the case of the Special, Aeon’s death was undone almost instantly after. This story trope is often called a Disney Death, where a character can die and it won’t affect the rating as long as it gets undone quickly enough through a fakeout or resurrection. Even so, Aeon was in her robot form when it happened, to make sure her non-humanness was explicit. In contrast, Sentibug’s death doesn’t get undone, meaning a Sentimonster’s life is worth even less than a robot’s in the eyes of the arbiters of the Miraculous Ladybug universe.
In other words, Sentimonsters are considered explicitly enough “non-human” that they can be killed irreversibly on-screen without it affecting the rating. They cannot be killed. They do not have lives that can be taken away. They are not human.
This means that, if the writers then turned around and revealed one of their main characters to be a Sentimonster, an explicitly non-human creature that can be killed with no out-of-universe repercussions (aka, a rating bump) because they are not really alive, then he isn’t human in a metatextual sense. If Adrien is meant to preserve his worth as a human being or as close to human being as possible while being a Sentimonster, every single other Sentimonster needs to be treated as fully human and their deaths have to be undone.
More on Senti Adrien because my thoughts are developing
Gabriel technically hasn’t had the miraculous that long. It’s implied he and his wife went to a trip to Tibet and after they came back with the miraculous and a book they found, (assuming she started using it) she fell ill shortly after and he in turn started learning about the miraculous and how he can bring her back (this is what we see him conclude in the beginning of Origins in S1)
So IF that’s the case. How the hell can Adrien be a Sentimonster if he grew up with Chloe? She has known him all her life. She can be difficult but she remembers AND knows who he is. There’s also pictures of him when his mom was still around assuming it was before the trip to Tibet.
Now we can assume a tragedy happened and maybe the real Adrien didn’t make it, but it’s odd something like that wasn’t mentioned or made it out to the public. The only thing anyone knows about is that Emílie isn’t alive anymore.
That being said, do we FOR SURE know that what did Emílie in was the Peacock miraculous? It may have been her final blow but do we know she didn’t already have a present illness to her? Also if it is miraculous related, why was she using it in the first place? Why are her family rings so important? There’s so many questions, but not many point to the sentimonster theory to me.
Cause if so it’s also odd that the only way Gabriel is willing to “restore” her is by destroying the world to create a new one. Why not heal her? Why not instead seek a way to cure her if she’s being preserved? The order is back in Tibet. THEY may know more about the effects of a damaged miraculous on someone. Yet he chooses to go on with his plan. Hell, what did she even tell him when she asked him to keep his promise?
It’s just odd.
Anyways guys—
TLDR: My Thoughts are Adrien can’t be a Sentimonster because Gabriel has only had both the Butterfly and Peacock Miraculous after returning from a trip to Tibet with his wife 2-3 years ago in the shows timeline. Gabriel only started making plans to use the miraculous after his wife fell ill and “died” for some time in Origins. Adrien has evidence that he’s been alive before the miraculous even came into Gabriel’s possession by photography of him with his mother or in early model gigs as well. Chloe also grew up with him and has recollection of that.
I won’t say “case closed” cause anything is possible but that’s still where I stand
