With the early morning sun warming his bare back, a certain Cosmonian, the last of his kind makes his way along a dusty highway towards Rocket Town, a place he has always struggled to call home.
His bare feet are filthy, the rest of him is not particularly clean either, his shock of red hair was long and shaggy and still sporting feathers and beads but his personal hygiene will be the least of his problems when he finally returns home to the one’s he calls family. Nanaki has not seen his adopted parents or brother in two years now, having absconded into the wilderness without informing a soul,
He had just up’d and left in the middle of the night, taking only his knife and a canteen of water. Town life has never suited him, Nanaki had always found it difficult to adapt to the constant noises and smells of a busy town. Cosmo, his birthplace had always been a more serene place, connected to the planet and he had been able to escape into the desert when ever he wanted, hunting for his food and finding his place in the world. That had all changed of course with the arrival of meteor and Sephiroth
Now the young male felt displaced, unsettled, something his adopted parents seemed unable to understand. Nani had always been a wild child, feral even at times, happy outdoors, hunting and fishing, while talking to the planet as he had been taught by his ancestors. Now people wanted to make him ‘civilised’ by forcing him to wear shoes amongst other things.
That night of his departure had been an emotional one as he stole through the house, saying a silent goodbye to Pops, Da and Cait as they slept. He had left his brother a small carved keepsake, along with a note, explaining why he had to leave
He doubted Cait would ever forgive him…
His time in the wilderness had been a rite of passage, the planet teaching him many things about the world he lived in and more importantly his place within it. He had lived off the land, hunted for his food and slept on the ground under the stars. It had been dangerous at times as monsters still roamed freely and Nanaki had suffered a few injuries and broken bones. He had not always been alone, however, as very occasionally he would come across other travellers, also seeking knowledge and wisdom. Eventually he had been told through a dream that his time for now was over in the wilderness and that he should return home, so Nanaki had done just that, thanking the planet for all she had done for him.
Nanaki now hurried his stride as Rocket Town came into view. Over the tree line he could see another rocket under construction and could not help but smile, Pops was still obsessed with making them it seemed. As he enters the town, most of the townsfolk stop and stare at him. No doubt wondering who this filthy, one eyed, bare footed and half naked boy might be. He could not deny that now he was very nervous, afraid even of what was to come. Would his family still accept him? Or would they send him away
