Unlikely that many will read this but wanted to warn about a scam I experienced.

I had a user message me saying they wet very sorry but had reported my account mistaking me for a scammer. They said they had encouraged others to report me and there was an inquiry that was going to suspend my account. They said they tried to take it back but was told I needed to appeal it myself and gave me the contact (WhatsApp and Discord) for a tumblr person.

I (gullibly) messaged the person and tried to get things sorted but was very suspicious. They said all was fine but needed me to answer question as per procedure. While I was texting this guy I sent an actual report to tumblr support asking if this was legit including a pic of my convo with this guy and the pic he sent of his ‘official tumblr employee certificate’.

Tumblr got back to me in like a minute and confirmed it was a scam and any actual problem would be dealt with differently with them.

At this point I had (again, gullibly) changed my password according to this guy’s instructions but never confirmed it with him. I changed my password immediately after the official email I got so my account is thankfully safe! I blocked the guy and the account that originally reached out.

Again - I doubt anyone will see this, but if you do, please spread the word so people don’t fall for this!! Sorry if this is old news, just wanted to warn anyone who hasn’t come across this before.

There are sounds of cheers and crying and the two people hug each other as they exchange the flags. The man at the doorway then waved kisses to the crowd within the pride parade.

The Tweet says: "NO YOU DONT UNDERSTAND HE WAS WAVING THE PORTUGUESE FLAG BECAUSE HE DIDN'T HAVE A PRIDE FLAG AND THEY TRADED FLAGS AND HE'S SO EMOTIONAL TO GET HIS OWN PRIDE FLAG I'M EMOTIONALLY RUINED"

For context, apparently they were worried that maybe he's a nationalist because he was waving the Portuguese flag and some nationalists opposing the pride march were waving that flag. But upon interacting with him, it turns out he didn't have have a pride flag and he wanted to wave *a* flag in support of the pride march. So they had an exchange and now he has his own pride flag 😭🥹.

when a government bans young people from using social media, and then categorises messenger apps like Signal and WhatsApp as "social media", they are pushing those young people toward using text messages, a fundamentally insecure form of communication. texts are not encrypted in transit and can be read by both the sender's mobile carrier and the recipient's. that also means they can be leaked in data breaches, subpoenaed, or just handed over willingly to law enforcement at the carriers' discretion.
