Don't forget to water your eldritch horror best friend so he can grow up strong and healthy <3
a part of us never left that mountain
The Summer Hikaru Died gives me the same vibes as The Promised Neverland. Can't explain it.

Spits blood Fuck yeah
The little suffering Ray makes me cry.
Sincere friendship NER makes me cry.
Ranobe makes me want to cry.
Ray suddenly realizes how much he would miss her if she leaves, how no one would speak to him like she does... No one would comfort him like she does. Of course he cares about Emma and Norman, but Susan was the only one capable of seeing those changes he couldn’t even notice himself.
From @tempo-takoyaki's summary of A Letter from Norman Chapter 3 - "NER in Bird Cages"
Thinking about that one chapter about Susan in the first light novel…
I did my best not to love you. To resent you and not let you in because I knew you would be gone. One day you will be taken from me and it will be one of the biggest heartaches of my life and I don't know if I can survive that. It's easier to survive if I hate you. Please, have mercy on my soul. At least curse me a little at the end.
The real question is: is this about OP? Is this about Geto Suguru? Or is this about Gojo Satoru?
Just curious but were there any other reasons besides them being 11, and Ray finding Emma's everything exhausting that caused him to be more teasing with her? (Aka him calling her and idiot, bonking her and what not in ss1)
At most I can see is that- much like Norman Ray also admired Emma. But unlike Norman, Ray who knew the truth, could only see Emma as this naive kid who he needs to protect. He might have been freaked out by her sunshiny personality lol. And maybe started to see her as dependable/ his equal after she saved him and they all escaped.
Explicitly stated reasons, no, but Emma is a very physically affectionate person, so in addition to this:
(Chapter 93)
I chalk it up to being a reciprocal thing, in a similar way to how Norman only shows his impish, calculating side to Ray at Grace Field. Each dynamic of the trio has their own rapport they've established.
(Love the little smile he gives them in "Touch off" mirroring the one he gives her in chapter 14)
Also going to cite this post by @lightningflash55 that I appreciate:
God, I love how when Emma’s a bit slower to pick up on something that Ray wants her to get he doesn’t crack jokes or get frustrated but instead calmly rephrases himself in a way she can understand? Like he’ll tease her over silly things but when it comes to the important stuff he’s not the same, he’s really patient and gentle about it --- #Ray is SOOOO good at gently prompting her to understand something or when trying to push her to follow her ideals #they just work so well as a team il their dynamic a lot #Ray for all the times he’s edgy and dramatic or easily gives up has EVEN MORE redeemable qualities #he’s such a good boy he truly is #and Emma’s also not dumb at all she just has a different way of thinking #so ill that he recognizes this ugh just THESE KIDS
i think when we used to point out that a story didn't need a sex scene what we meant was "this story reduces its women to mere sex objects and gives them no interiority so the sex scenes are gratuitous and geared towards the male gaze" it wasn't the sex that bothered us per se it was the objectification of female characters while givig them little to no consequence to the overall story but nowadays people mean "sex is icky and gross and has no merit to ever be portrayed in our arts which should be good and pure and never ever make ME feel discomfort" and it's like. i bet a bowl of unfrosted flakes looks real good to you rn
My current not-approved-by-the-government opinion is that im not anyone's parent and i should not be responsible for random teenagers online. If I post smth thats 'meant for adults' and its labled as such then what happens from there is literally not my problem. If a teen- who is fully capable of turning on self moderation settings on their own btw- doesn't use a site's provided self moderation settings and they see boobs or dicks then like literally whatever, its neither the end of the world or a big deal. It shouldn't fall on me or a website or a tech company to do a parent's job, and also frankly i don't think a parent should be breathing down their 16 year old's neck on the off chance they do actually want to look at tits, but thats a discussion that americans will fucking throw a fit at so maybe we'll discuss that another day in better company.
"But what about young children!!" see thats! where parents should be involved- that is to say, why are you letting your young child on the internet in the first place, you fucking idiot.
Edit that's not gonna be seen: i've muted this post, if you're arguing in the replies i do not see it nor do i care.
In the novel where Norman is very very sick when he was little, Ray is afraid that Isabella may be forced to send Norman to the QG, right? But Norman wouldn't be killed and eaten then: he's too smart, they would want to keep him alive as long than possible so his brain would be at his best. He would probably be kept asleep until he was healed, and would be send back to the orphenage after that, right? It's just Ray who thinks it means obligatory death? or it 100% means death?
Krone's story in the second light novel touches upon the protocol for when a child is seriously ill:
So it's difficult but not impossible to send them back to the plants. And with Norman being the first child in Grace Field's recorded history to excel by the metrics they measure from his very first test at age four, it seems highly unlikely they would kill him prematurely even if Peter hadn't taken a special interest in him. They might have sedated him enough so his time at headquarters was like a fever haze where he wouldn't be sure what was real and what was fake, or they might have kept him there until he turned twelve, but killing him early seems foolish with the sunk cost put into him and his potential.
(TPN Light Novel 1: A Letter from Norman - “The Day Emma Cried”)
Ray's working with limited information, though, and the fear of losing Norman is very real to him, even if it isn't necessarily to imminent death.
#if they had to bring Norman to headquarters I assume Ray would fall so sick with worries #they had to shift him over too #not great for Isabella's reputation but I could see it XD (via @officersnickers)
He care him 🥺 so much 🤧
Isabella might be able to convince Emma not to worry with the amount of trust the girl has in her, assuming the situation is framed as Norman temporarily going to a hospital and then later changed to him finding foster parents there if headquarters decided he couldn't return for any reason. They might even write fake letters this time to assuage Emma with how much potential she has and six years to go before she turns twelve.
Ray, though, I feel like him entering a quiet depressive state akin to what we see after Norman's shipment is more likely because Isabella would hate to lose two full scorers at once with neither potentially returning. Some of the first children she raised entirely on her own demonstrating her skill as a mom, proof that she earned the prestige as the youngest ever in Grace Field's recorded history, cut down years before maturing. I imagine she'd be at least a bit petty about the unfairness of it all, and it'd seep into her interactions with Ray because he's the only other person she can take it out on. Maybe it would be a softer version of this exchange from always a riddle inside my head (aesop's kin) by evanescent:
Or something where she asks him how long he's going to continue carrying on like a child when he's been aware this was always a possibility (for the hypocrisy of it all).
