Spike needs to focus. He can’t let a couple of—Spike sniffs in purposefully—yup, incestuous—poofs that materialize from thin air detract from his mission to get his hands on the Gem of Amarra, however *delicious* they may be.

But they *are* distracting. The older brother, the Pretty Boy Hunter, now, there’s a dangerous one all right. Spike wouldn’t like to be a mortal who put his mitts on Twink Jr., no sir, not in view of Hunter here.

And those lips. They’re so nice that Spike has to lick his own in appreciation.

In 1999, Balthazar sends Dean and Sam to Angel's Los Angeles, where they encounter Spike, who's still trying to get over Dru (and Angel), who immediately falls in love with the Hunter, leading to a whirlwind of suicidal blood sharing, poorly-negotiated kinky sex, and of course tension between Dean and his soulmate, who's been secretly planning to leave his desperate, sloppy, needy ass. They end up meeting Buffy and Willow and almost dooming a universe. Of course, the real Daddy and Mommy Issues are the friends they feed along the way.

instead of rehashing tired “dean abuses sam all the time bc sam didn’t even flinch that one time dean punched him in s2” or whatever i think it would be much more interesting if the fandom talked about how violence was normalized in the winchester family to the point that neither dean nor sam blink at being physically pushed around. and this isn’t to say i think john was knocking their block every day (he wasn’t), but that john got a little too comfy dragging minors to seedy motels and on dangerous hunts. of course sam and dean don’t flinch at being punched, they’ve had their shit rocked weekly by whatever monster they happen to be involved with hunting and using a moment of high strung grief fueled anger to prove that dean was totally abusive is no better character analysis than using demon blood sam choking dean out to prove that he was also totally abusive

Yeah, these characters are way too complex for some folks to understand.

I think violence was common enough in their household, not something unheard of, but not a daily thing. We even see it contrasted with that fucked up kid who DID experience violence daily. And they specifically mention something like, “wow yeah, with a little more booze that coulda been our family, but it wasn’t.”

There’s just no way that Dean the character we see on TV was regularly beating Sam.

Maybe some of the fanfic versions of him, but even when Dean the TV character was a demon sporting the original Brother Killing Mark … he … ran away. He didn’t try to hit Sam with a hammer until the very end of that episode and that was after a lot of provoking, like Sam trying to forcibly turn him against his will.

honestly the tragedy of castiel is he truly does love dean more than anything but dean will always put sam before him. dean loves castiel but his heart is too full of love for sam to ever give cas what he wants. like it’s just not possible for dean to meaningfully be with anyone else when every beat of his heart says sammy.

when Sam is old enough to learn from school the exact word for what Dean is doing to him, he has the extremely unexpected reaction of becoming instantly obsessed with said word.

and now Dean has to put up with his hypersexual baby brother point-blank begging for Dean to molest him every spare moment they have alone.

Dean and Sammy are unloading the car in the parking lot of yet another nondescript motel while John's inside preemptively paying for a room. he won't be staying the night though, he's got a lead to chase down that he's decided he can handle on his own. John's just there to grab a quick shower before heading out again.

Sammy's already vibrating with an anticipation that Dean pretends not to notice and as soon as Dean's got the trunk of the impala closed, Sammy stops him with a tug on his jacket sleeve.

"Can you do it tonight, De?" Sammy asks, whispering like he's trying to weedle Dean into giving him a couple quarters for a gumball machine behind their father's back.

"Molest me? After dad leaves?"

u guys don't fuck with soulless sam the way I do like that is my princess. oh the clean mechanical precision oh the animal boredom. I love his confused artificial attempts at gentleness. he's asking too many questions he's making everyone uncomfortable he literally cannot lose an argument bc his masculine rationality points are maxed out. and he humiliates everyone just by doing what they tell him to like he's soooo good at playing his role it breaks the game. bitches hate me bc I shattered the facade. it's more than just 'sam but evil' it's an earnest attempt to reconstruct the patterns of empathy without context. he only starts to thrash when he realizes it'll never be enough. and it does genuinely break my heart watching him beg dean not to shove his soul back in. 'dean doesn't care about me. he just cares abt his little brother Sammy, burning in hell. he'll kill me to get that other guy back.' um THESIS. he's a fragment of a person fighting not 2b eaten by the whole. like any other animal he just wants to live.

what if MOC!Dean reminded Sam a lot of the version Lucifer came up of Dean in the cage?

(in the cage) everything feels right and it’s Dean and he’s going to save him but something is wrong and he’s getting violent and he’s saying things he doesn’t mean.

And MOC!Dean is doing just that. Sam’s desperate to fix this; sometimes having to force himself to believe that he isn’t in the cage and this is the Mark and not Lucifer’s version of Dean.

But it’s hard when Dean is acting so out of character. Especially with the things he says; telling Sam it should be him that is dead instead of Charlie. It’s obviously not true. Dean clearly does not believe that. If Sam’s Dean, if The Dean, did believe that, he wouldn’t have sold his soul those years ago and burned in Hell for 40 years. If he believed that, he wouldn’t have tricked Sam into being possessed by an unknown angel. Sam reminds this to himself daily. It’s become a background chant for him whenever he is around Dean. “This isn’t Lucifer. This is Dean. This is Dean with the Mark of Cain. This isn’t The Dean. But this isn’t Lucifer.”

Yeah so Noel and Liam are actually in a Thing, a toxic, decades long, on and off again Thing that takes place with the backdrop of an abusive family dynamic. I learned about this from wincest people but yeah, this was not an accidental incest reference.

People in the comments saying that this means that we are saying Dean is bi. No, we’re saying: have some media literacy. Not everything a character asserts about themself is true at face value. We love our complicated Dean who doesn’t always admit his vulnerability and who is overly concerned with being manly enough.
