july’18_bunches of flowers_SODAK
i had a friend post a couple days ago about the struggle of self-promotion. i have to imagine that this is relatable. it’s weird to shout into the cosmic and uncontrollable interwebs to get them to drift their attention to your specific project. it takes more effort to market the product than to make it in the beginning. which is how I believe many things die in their baby stages.
i make many deliberate decisions to get people’s attention, such as short, conversational sentence structure, my lack of capitalization and potentially emotive statements. whether that resonates with the general madness has get to be confirmed. but for now, it’s as close as the web can get to talking with me 1on1.
anyways, let’s jump into it. this month is my most proud collection yet. so so much good music was released. music that makes me groove, happy and free to emote. many emerging artists* fill the playlist this month. from 2 X 2′s seductive dinge-club vibes to Emmit Fenn’s nü-groove masterclass on “Where Have I Gone” there was just so much good music released and uncovered in july. if you like something, add them, like ‘em on socials and most importantly go to a show or buy their music. seriously. without further ado, I present: july’18_bunches of flowers_SODAK.
check the playlist here pls
*emerging artists is the buzz-word associated with artists who are on the verge of breaking. playing national tours in small clubs, getting heavy rotation in the streaming environment etc.
Feel My Needs - Weiss (UK)
This heater might be this summer’s unofficial house anthem. the flavorful jank piano riff that introduces the hook brings the energy of the track on a slow assent that then suddenly cracks in a full-fledge house-groove.

Monophobia - deadmau5 ft. Rob Swire
instant classic is one way to describe deadmau5′s, real name Joel Zimmerman, latest single off of his label’s latest collection. The duo’s previous smash, “Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff,” released in 2009, set deadmau5′s trajectory as a mainstream house music staple. On “Monophobia,” Joel’s strong sense of melody and Rob’s astringent emotional vocals creates a track that tells the story of trying to reach out to someone living in intense isolation.
Also the music video is a mind f*ck. would HIGHLY recommend.

Where Have I Gone - Emmit Fenn, Charlotte
Large and small feelings. Large feelings that lead us to shout. Small feelings where we groove to ourselves. Emmit Fenn has a knack for creating music that encases the listener in their own world and having that world feel as large as the one around them. I, personally, have been singing this hook to myself for the last week.
