it's like poetry, they rhyme
My tiniest gripe with the last episode is that I don’t think there should be a knife hole in the table Occtis got killed on. Because that would imply the knife went all the way through Occtis, but then he would have a puncture hole in his back aswell, which he doesn’t
I wish I could draw cause I need a drawing of the cuddle pile from e15 but with Occtis (sitting on the floor, his back against Thaisha’s legs) included
When the reshuffling happens I need Thimble, Occtis, and Vaelus to be at the same table
We’re learning Primus was actually the most creative out of his family in naming kids. His siblings are (most likely) named Secundus and Trimus and Secundus’s kids are Univere, Doset, and Tertia. Those are ALL numbers. At least Primus picked bones instead (even tho I would not want to be named Frons)
I understand they’re going back to Dol Makjar for above table reasons, but it just doesn’t sit right with me. I feel like at least Julien should be going to the Golden Orchad. Especially with the letter Occtis found (I did miss if Occtis shared the letter but even if didnt, why wouldn’t Julien go check on his family and make sure lady Aranessa is ok)
I haven’t seen anyone discuss this moment from episode 4. It’s a blink and you will miss it, but it ads a layer of complexity to Ethrand’s character.
The important line here is
Ethrand looks cowed and afraid.
Ethrand is about to engage in a fight with Thaisha and he’s grinning! But then Primus calls out to him and suddenly Brennan describes him as afraid. This switch happens because he’s talking to his father.
Ethrand is as afraid of Primus as Occtis used to be. He follows his father’s every command and he subscribes to the notion that being a Tachonis is a great privilege, but he is scared. I wonder just how much are his actions driven by duty and belief in what he/his family are doing and how much by fear of Primus. And if Primus were removed from the equation would he continue to follow in his fathers footsteps or would he feel remorse/regret and be finally free.
On top of that (and now I’m properly speculating) I believe he hates Occtis with his whole heart, but not because Occtis cannot do magic and is “a disappointment to the family”, but because Occtis got out. For the past 5 years Occtis has been able to do whatever he chooses, free of Primus and the whole family. Ethrand didn’t get that. He has to live up to the Tachonis name and do everything thats asked of him. And mybe thats why it was so easy for him to kill Occtis.
Tachonis Family Tree Review
Because they keep making more of these fuckers.
Current head of the family is Primus Tachonis, who we can assume is (or was) married to a woman, about whom we know Conspicuously Nothing.
They have eight kids: In descending order, we have Petra and Ryah, two unnamed kids (presumably a second set of twins), Frons (thanks Julien), Ethrand, another unnamed kid, and Occtis.
Primus has at least one sibling, a brother, who has three kids: Univere, Doset, and Tertia (Also no more). Their mother is Nausha Vachari, a member of one of Tachonis' Vassal Houses.
The letters the Soldiers uncovered in the cellar of castle Delawney mentioned a woman named Trimus, who we can reasonably guess is Primus' sister.
Hal knows a woman named Biteen, who is married to a male Tachonis - we don't know who.
There's also the voice Occtis heard while he was sewing up his soul, who Brennan implies is Grandpappy Tachonis - surely as pleasant as all his descendants.
Rewatching NY by Night because Occtis and Gaya got me missing Isaac with Angela and Michael
Emily Axford would have adopted that scorpion
Oh wait I forgot at that point they didn’t know Tertia is dead….
Oh well, o7 scorpion
Emily Axford would have adopted that scorpion
Matt implied that Julien and Gaya fucked and I kinda need it to come out/be talked about in an episode.
Also Gaya and Vaelus should make out just for fun
Obsessed with the image of Gaya Seremai sitting unmoving by the campfire, eyes wide, listening to the seekers hash it out, and just in her mind piecing together what happened to Occtis and just how doomed (as she said herself) this group is. Trying to imagine what her inner monologue was like brings me so much delight.
I’m also impressed about how quickly she accepted that Occtis died yet still lives and had 0 questions about how that is possible or how it works.
I find it funny that Alex/Occtis made (seemingly) conscious choice to not tell the doctor about where they are going and about his connection to a celestial and then Aabria was like “No, Brennan obviously made this npc for us to take with us, so we are taking her with us”
I need to stop opening reddit. There is so much negativity there. I finished tonight’s episode (I did miss the first hour and a half) and though it was the best episode we had so far, and then I open Reddit and everyone is calling it boring. And it just kinda gets under my skin and ruins my mood and my enjoyment of the episode, even tho it’s stupid and I should not base my opinions on opinions of others.
I think the biggest problem is that, while most of the complaints are nonsensical or subjective, there are some I do agree with. Like I do think Brennan’s npcs sometimes get too wordy (the moment I noticed it mainly was in episodes 5 with Aranessa). But these things are usually something I notice once but don’t dwell on, care about, or base my enjoyment in. But then I see 10 people repeating the same thing and suddenly it gets under my skin. Suddenly I care about it more. Suddenly I look out for it in the episodes, even tho I would not have noticed it previously. Suddenly it changes my perspective. And I hate it.
Anyways, thanks for reading my small rant about hate/critical comments. And sorry for bringing this energy to tumblr. I love tumblr because basically every cr post I see here is either very insightful character analysis, a detailed theory, an incredible piece of art, or something absolutely hilarious.
Also (to balance the neg), what an absolutely incredible episode. The campfire scene blew my socks off, them traveling through the night was so tense, and there was so much intriguing lore. I ended up with my mouth wide open like 4 times this ep.
As the shadowlight waypoint was mentioned last episode I hope we get the campfire scene tonight. I need to know what happens and I don’t want to wait another week
Interesting they used Occtis’s original character art in this weeks thumbnail. It’s probably to avoid spoiling episode 4, but still… fun thing to notice
