@spacecadetdhdly
Okay, I just saw this on another post for another fandom so I obviously wasn’t going to highjack their beautiful post for mcshep but i’m damnwell gonna make my own post for it.
“I think you can relate to it when you’re young, our age, and when you’re older. There’s always one person in the room that you want to see you. There’s one person that you really wish could actually see you and that person rarely puts their eyes on you. I think that’s the thing between them, they wanted to be seen by one specific person and that’s a very beautiful drama.” —Mads Mikkelsen on Hannibal & Will’s relationship
AND IF THAT’S NOT THE PERFECT SUMMARY OF EXACTLY HOW THEY PLAYED RODNEY MCKAY AND JOHN SHEPPARD. EVERY. SINGLE. SCENE.
And whereas in Hannibal it was apparently a conscious choice, who knows if it was for McShep at the time, (I have a low bar for expectations lately) this is still the way the characters come through on the screen. I will die on this hill.
Rodney is constantly looking up to Sheppard for how to be the tough guy, how to save the day, because it lines up with what his ego says he should be capable of doing, too. And any time he makes a move, he quite literally looks to John for validation of it. This egotistical, arrogant, genius who thinks himself smarter than an entire PLANET, looks to a washed-up flyboy for validation on nearly everything he does in the same relative proximity as the man.
And then there’s John Sheppard who shoots anything he can and then quite literally stops to ask himself “What would McKay do?” if he can’t shoot something. The guy seeks out this nerdy scientist as a friend and as the guy who’ll help him keep Atlantis safe, when he’s got entire teams of trained military expertise that should probably maybe have been his first line of “Defensive” action in many situations. He shows off with math trivia because it makes Rodney practically drool on himself every time it happens.
That can be read as friendship, it can be read as jealousy, it can be read as brotherly, it can be read as romantic, or it can be read as that ol’ fantasy scenario in which the best friend is the one you end up with because that’s the one who gets you and who chooses you back.
Best. Thing. Evar.
This is why S5 of SGA is so offensive
Even in canon they were platonic life partners, each found in the other what they needed even if it was never overtly romantic because neither needed, or even wanted it, the lady in their relationship was Atlantis and that worked for them and it neither needed encouragement or explanation, it just was
But someone (cough naming no names because I don’t need to) heard about mcshep and no homoed the show so hard it knocked Atlantis into another galaxy
And it meant poor Jewell staite played a character who had no point other than the lady who broke up mcshep for reasons because Rodney had a brain transplant obvs
She turned down Ronon of the excellent arms and satedan lit degree for a man who meant she couldn’t wear perfume because he was deathly allergic to citrus, I mean you could have romance novel cover or a man that would always out you second to the city (and would drop everything for Sheppard too),
Damn, I missed the no-homo drama and kinda wanna know, but kinda don’t.
But very much this, because Keller had potential as a cool character for like all of a MINUTE before they did a hard and fast character assassination to shove her at McKay and have her essentially try to change everything about McKay in order to be with him. And then she goes on to be this judgement-queen about Ronon, too, and there’s this “nice” character anti-growth arch for her wherein she becomes a mean person who hates everything about the building blocks of the show.
Shepp is there 5 seasons and gets no character growth compared to what they shoehorned in on keller, and they just used her as a wedge and hammered her into place to screw up the Dynamics of the original crew, literally by having her criticize them. I get that the others were not perfect, but that was what made them entertaining as characters.
And it just completely derailed everything they had already established, and yet somehow mcshep still did their thing. So meh.
No one hated Stargate more than the guy who owned Stargate
And battlestar was airing and going colossally well, because it is that good, and he wanted a slice of that pie but SGA was taking money that could be used to make Stargate Galactica, I mean universe
So he found what the fans liked, hated it, and sabotaged everything to follow new trends without understanding why bsg worked and created a dark lost in space and crashed the franchise
Then because it wasn’t his fault he skipped the Stargate literally broke it up and put it in a skip
But the guy who made leverage discovered it and either bought it or took it, and it appears as modern art throughout leverage
There is a rumour that Stargate might be coming back - but I assume it means fuckface, I can’t remember his name, left
Dean Devlin is the guy that created the Stargate Movie and owned the concept. It was acquired by others before he could make his own trilogy of movies or any shows. Other than his name basically be the last title card and royalties he had nothing to do with the show. And as long as it was running he couldn’t do his original vision.
So he made the Librarian movies, then Leverage, then the Librarians show. And he would make vague mentions of SG at times, but mostly has I don’t have anything to do with that.
I believe he is going to try to remake the movie and then complete his trilogy.
Where's his headbonk? "The Return Pt. 1"
Rodney neglects to sleep again and fell asleep at the workplace (even though we know he has back problems)
I kept this joke in my head for 2 days to finally portray it
If I could draw, it would be John Sheppard in this outfit
welp. best i got on a quick holiday turnaround with faulty tech:
Guys, I couldn't help but pass by and draw this
He's great.

Written version below…
I was scrolling through Prime reading episode descriptions and this photo they chose for season 5 makes John look like he's on The Bachelor 😂
had to draw my pathetic wet rat man immediately
My desires are finally satisfied🥴🤩😍
Especially Rodney's selfcest
Peter Grodin could have been the Walter of SGA but instead they had to go and disrespect my son 😭
If I could draw, it would be John Sheppard in this outfit
welp. best i got on a quick holiday turnaround with faulty tech:
actually i take back what I said in the previous tags @spacecadetdhdly, even John Sheppard would tie his bootlaces with a formal frock like this....
I couldn't help it the picture needed a story so these drabbles happened
