I’m so elated to announce that my chapter of the Adaquarium Diaries has been accepted as an art piece in The Secret City! This Saturday, July 29th, the town of Woodstock will come alive with interesting, site-specific performances. This piece will be presented several times between 12pm and 4pm at the Kleinert James Center for the Arts. There will be a viewing of this video and it will be accompanied with more of the story, what it means to have community and spoken-word poetry. Maybe even the mandolin will make a cameo! So, if you’re in the neighborhood, come and stop by – say hi! This year’s Secret City event takes place over the course of three days with a kickoff party Friday night, the site-specific performances on Saturday and ultimately culminates in the big celebration at the Bearsville Theater on Sunday (30th). What are the Adaquarium Diaries?: The Adaquarium Diaries are a series of experimental videos that merge the honest, unbridled, true stories of hand-selected individuals with the music of Sarah Fimm's most recent album release, “Adaquarium.” Each organically-evolving chapter or entry taps directly into a number of important topics ranging from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, LGBT rights and more - inviting listeners to share in a fearless exploration of the human experience. The Adaquarium Diaries are a global call to encourage others to share the truth of their experiences, whatever they may be, through the combination of music, creativity and the power of the human voice. What is The Secret City?: The Secret City is an Obie Award winning arts organization that presents sincere and fabulous community celebrations of everyday creative life. Part ceremony, part salon, part show, each gathering has a different theme and an ever-changing roster of artists and performers. Featuring storytelling, live band, performance, food, meditation, The Secret City Singers and joyful community interaction, our events are open to all with a suggested donation. We also provide free childcare and a potluck coffee hour afterward. We present regularly in New York City, Los Angeles and the Hudson Valley and aim to bring our joyful celebrations to the larger world in the very near future.

"Tidal” Speaking to the Tongue of Tides I stand before where naught resides The nautical depths of the heart Where nary flies a bird Nary comes a cloud No land, no measurement Only that which is…   “Wanderer,” they ask, What of a poet’s words Could turn our hearts From bombs, from hunger From loneliness?”

I felt an answer to a question One night Cuffs clamped tight Around my wrists And knew my course had changed So, I looked at the stars Like I used to as a child Like I used to when I was freely wild Laying on the trampoline Listening to locusts in the night. “There must be a better way…” And, ah, what would follow those days…. There is no world which we Have taught ourselves Through fear and the wish To be separate And few wish to hear this Fewer seek to know it And fewer still have lived it

She came with her cane And crooked fingers A book to preserve her memories…her long life And I saw what I have seen In the eyes of those Who’ve walked this earth An era or two. In a Mind of Minds I honored all she had ever been And ever will be A thousand times again

Terse snippets and frustration Poke like rusty daggers Through passing eyes As a populous incessantly seeks What is it we are seeking? I set my sights upon the horizon In the rousing dusk To seek the seeker’s end - Where no viscera was ever spilled Nothing contained, nothing restrained Nothing within, nothing without Only truth to place its mouth Upon the light And kiss the wounds That fill in time Our Secret Grove

My dream streams lucidly As I confront unconscious symbolism As it begins to rise again I see a thread before it is spun And I speak these things to no one “Under the spell of heavy eyes The sun bore down upon the stone And writ upon Elysian skies ‘No one builds a dream alone’”

I could tell you of the world That lives within the scratches Of my journals The blotting out The, “No, not this…” A simple line drawn And the world on either side Here lives the tangible The unknown The ephemeral My questions My answers The unspoken The observations beyond what was seen And how it felt to observe it The way it felt to watch a leaf As it fell and asked not why it had to The way a candle flickered in the dark And changed our tone of speech  

“Clear vines line Chameleon skin - Go deeper within.”

Be genuine And say it like it feels It flits across the surface But thrives where depths Are measureless How should I recall the number Of days that this has covered me Like a lead vest Sitting on my chest? I stand a human with Rights in question And a world cannot seem to sleep Does the woman who cried From the corner of her interjection Know there are more listeners That catch in silence What a world of sound is deaf to? There is always a frantic threat Of looming anything So love now  

Lone Wolf! Lone Wolf! The poet cried into the night The stranger said, “Get out of your head.” She called me Ippiki Ookami A word dripped from the balcony And ribboned down the ancient stones - Dripped like wax from the candle That flickered atop the bar Where I heard and spun my fables To the murmur of lively tables That listened from afar

I closed my eyes in a quiet place Watched by hatching serpents I am Breeze, the whirlwind tamer The swayer of trees A shifting disclaimer Feel me in the breath of earth Where era meets era in vast rebirth I give my love to know what I am To see right through this hologram Though siphoned I rise to answer the why's That ever plagued my thought In the mighty gale - I soar, I sail For whirlwinds cannot be caught

The sunset streamed down the road Lined, aligned, and bearing Filtering transparency through velvet petals I walked a crowd that grew and grew And found my way through feeling What is it that lives in words That draws us to take them in? Is it the stepping stones within our minds Leading to a place lived once as is And again in many forms Together we find our home Rising and falling And rising again Until we rest the wearied wings In a thought that was never touched So, love yourself And love another Love the dawn And love its other And truth will kiss the wounds That fill in time Our Secret Grove I honor all you have ever been A thousand times again - Sabrina (Poetess)

I had the pleasure of learning the ropes of videography with David Laks one night. After wrapping up on set, we did a little bit of poetry. I hope you enjoy this performance of one of my original poems, “Enter.”

During my youth in the sandy prairies of Waynoka, Oklahoma, I was a dedicated, accomplished student and athlete living a relatively normal life. That is, until I discovered that the truth of who I was went against everything our conservative community was taught to believe. After it became public knowledge that I was a lesbian, I was teased, taunted and physically threatened by bullies and religious zealots. There is no way to describe what it’s like to think that people want to hurt you or hate you just for being what you are. I couldn’t go to the convenience store. I couldn’t take a walk without feeling a sense of terror. All I could do was try to numb myself everyday, consumed by a strange notion that something was wrong with me somehow.

By the time I was 22-years-old, I found the courage to leave the Midwest to escape this backward, gun-toting little town. Even though I had fallen into destructive patterns, I still knew inside that there was more for me than this. I wanted to know what it felt like to be a human being who didn’t have to live in fear each day - one who had rights, respect and dignity. That’s when I left Oklahoma and headed to Woodstock, NY.

For the first time in my life, I felt like I could truly breathe. I found friends. I found a place where people love you for what you are. I found a place where I could be the poet and the artist that I always dreamed I would be. One of the things that helped me come out and feel like I wasn’t so alone were the artists, directors, actors, musicians and public figures living openly and sharing their personal stories without reservation. I can only hope that telling my story out loud might offer courage, comfort or insight to anyone facing a similar struggle.

With our voices, our experiences and fearlessness in the face of bigotry, we can pave the way for a brighter tomorrow, where we can all stand as who we truly are – and be free to love whom we love without persecution or discrimination.

Stark white light in flight Passing through the spaces Between opposing faces Between itinerant bodies Going to an infinite somewhere Loud eyes rise above A sea of human motility In a tarried state of love In a brush of air We saunter by In an errant why   And go our own way Where do we meet again? Let it slip through us now As if we could never hold Anything again What would we give To understand now What awaits a mind In hindsight? It struck me in a seaside town When all of life was slipping down The construct I had of anything I felt my way where sand met shore I felt the way I felt before The salty water kissed my lips And stones and shells Composed my cells So I could meet our edges As they waved me A little farther down the line I carried conversations Into streets that never slept I walked alone observing How it all fit together I walked with those who peered within I walked the morning after The night held us close Between a full and heavy-swoon moon Milestones and questions Licked the corners of buildings As I turned to face The stark white light in flight Passing through the spaces Between opposing faces Between itinerant bodies Going to an infinite somewhere Everyone has their spheres Some planetary orbit Pulling through space Moving through time Magnetized in multi-form crossings What shall we impart? Can we wrap ourselves In ribbons of eternity, Weaving to be whole again? How could I compose What nothing could disclose? So tell me the poetry Of your heart What seas you have sailed What parts of you are like The discarded trinkets That make you travel through time?   Tell me anything And I will see your gentleness Like bouquet that blossoms endlessly Tell me anything All mirrors be clear here What words could reflect The state of this world? Can I take you to where The stones and shells Composed our cells So we could see the edges We are peering over? Has the world made such theft Of forgiving hearts Left now bereft Of undivided worlds where truth Was a hand we held as one? Is it something that lived in the tenses Spanning the ages Of vast consequences? Was it in this? Was it in that? The florid throne where once there sat A sovereign of tacit reason That lasted but a passing season? Does it shimmer in the eyes Of a questioning child? In the quavering wave Rippling wild?   Does it flicker in the ember illuminating The name left standing In the ever-expanding Epochs of time? What is it then that calls to hand The brush, the pen, the poet to stand? The bard to rise, the chord to pluck The lover first by Cupid struck?

And what of those who in their prose Could see the bloom before the rose? The rising aubade of creatures leaping Before the torpid sleeping Seeking for centers where matter Is but an empty mirage And what of those who boldly gaze in us Who map the maze in us? The gentle eyes that seek To see beyond the fragile visage Of fear, of age, of shifting parts Upon the stage; Who see the trinkets in gripping hands And watch their return to drifting sands And only ask to lovingly take Each thing that caused our every ache And show us that our toys bear blades Though shiny, loud and full of shades Who would have us choose for ourselves That which we do not know we long for That which was before longing And that which is long after… Tell me, Has the world made such theft Of dreamer hearts Where none were left Who questioned once And once again Who were answered now And answered then? Or is the world an unraveling quandary In the flitting eyes of the loving – the wise And if we can choose… Would we choose to rise? - Sabrina

Last night, I had the pleasure of joining some seriously talented musicians at The Lodge to spill some poetry. It was so amazing to watch everyone losing themselves and finding themselves in dance, joy and serious rock and roll! The smiles I saw brought so much warmth to my heart. I am so grateful that amidst all the hootin' and hollerin,' the crowd attentively allowed a change of headspace to a reflective, poetic journey inward. The music stopped so I could say a little something after this. I'm going to repeat it to you: Call that friend you've been meaning to for a while. Let someone know how much you care. Give them a hug. Don't forget to be kind and when the world floods your heart like surging ocean, look at someone you love or look in the mirror and remind yourself, "Love is the way we find our home. Love travels with us when we roam." We are never without it. Thank you so much to Rennie Cantine, Conor Wenk, Flash, Amit, Joe Beesmer, Connor Kennedy, Reggie and many other talented souls who stood up and played their hearts out. My, oh MY WHAT COLORS! It’s been an absolute whirlwind of beauty, lessons and many experiences all across the human spectrum. I’ve been pouring every free moment I have into several different types of art. Film, painting, guitars, mandolins, pianos, poetry, graphic design, print making, drawing - anything I can get my hands on to bring more color into the world.  A new poetry video has come to life, and I’m so stoked to announce a new adventure in the land of Sparkle Poetics. I’m now over on Patreon, a site that provides recurring funding for independent artists. In exchange for your generous support, I’m releasing a new poetry video every month (as well as other poetic petals) to patrons, and I’ve got a teaser for you if you’d like a taste of what is waiting for you. There is also an expanding ocean of colors for you over on my Etsy page. The summer was a fruitful endeavor in the land of painting, and I cannot wait to create more! Additionally, I’ve been getting some framing lessons, so a few paintings are now equipped with float frames - complete with hanging wire.  Now, these hands must get to work on building the next bridge across the great anything of human potential. Hark! I hereby bestow a most #sparkling #Saturday upon thee! This week, one #painting and one #drawing were framed, four, #new paintings were brought to life and updated on my #Etsy store, I ran a half mile through the #woods to escape a most persistent deer fly with a #mandolin in my hand, seven new #videos were made in my #editing lair, I cannot put down my #guitar and I told #space #jokes to whomever I could! Now, I'm off to my weekend job to put these #hands to #work in other ways. Thankfully, there is #coffee and pure #inspiration at the helm. I must remember to #write all of this #poetry as soon as my brain catches up. And now, I shall part thee with #humor: What do you do with bad #chemistry jokes? Barium.
