It really does feel like we're back to some kind of long lost norm for a second, like they're not in the same suits, same team, same car, they're a world away from what we knew, but they're also back to being the guys giggling under their umbrellas in imola years ago

Just for a minute they're my boys again when everything was easy even when the car sucked, cackling at each other over shared jokes and using each other as a wind break

so... about "that quote".... imo anything drivers say in the first 24 hours after experiencing the horrors should not even be considered as a real quote tbh. the way they are forced to immediately face the media after coming out of a traumatic experience they haven't even fully processed is insane but unfortunately that's how the game goes and we have all seen drivers say things in the heat of the moment and then later go lol jk nevermind.

but anyway. let's still unpack this quote. it's a very normal response tbh - it's the equivalent of him tweeting "im gonna kill myself" during a crashout. but the most important thing is to remember that george is incredibly resilient and mature and has developed a level of self awareness and emotional intelligence that not many drivers have. he's not afraid of losing because he has already lost. he's met both triumph and disaster and treated those impostors the same.

he's right. right now this championship is kimi's to lose - and the pressure is entirely on him to deliver. we have seen how quickly things turn around in a season. george will come back because he knows in this sport your biggest competition is always with yourself and he's made no enemy of himself. adversity is where he thrives. he will meet his fear head on and let it pass over him and through him and when the fear is gone only he will remain!! this is him freeing himself from the fear. the worst thing has already happened. there is literally nothing holding him back.

george is incredibly pragmatic. right now his survival skills are going to show and he will eliminate any variables that get in the way of that survival. if i know him at all i know he's already thinking of it this way. he's realizing the only way forward mentality wise is to get rid of that desire - it's not about fighting to win it's about fighting all the same even when you know you will lose.
