Needed a little writing warmup, so I present to you:
Stonerjackets
(Yellowjackets pre-crash stoner headcanons)
Nat: The most seasoned of the Stonerjackets (obviously). Constantly rolling the joints, rolling the blunts, packing the bowls. NEVER holds up or breaks the rotation; smokes while she rolls. Gets the most shit from everyone else when she does end up coughing, even though she coughs the least out of the Stonerjackets.
Van: Has hung out with Nat often enough that puff-puff-pass is second nature, no matter how deep into a conversation she is. Can roll a joint if needed. Equally funny when stoned and when not, but does voices more when baked. Will accidentally steal a lighter from time to time.
Tai: Almost never coughs because every hit is taken with calculated precision to ensure it. Won’t let how baked she is show, so her usual tells are how red her eyes are and how long she lets herself stare at Van when she thinks no one is looking. Makes sure no one hogs the piece/joint/etc.
Jackie: Lightweight; starts talking louder when stoned. “You know what we should do, you guys?” and never follows through (usually for the better).
Shauna: Gets cuddlier (with Jackie especially) when stoned. Sometimes gets writing inspiration and has to jot it down right then and there or she WILL forget.
Travis: Has a dedicated jacket he wears when smoking and hides it in the bushes at home so his dad won’t suspect. Likes to blow smoke rings just to poke them. Tries to out-smoke Nat and rarely does. Won’t realize how baked he is until he stands up/sits down.
Lottie: Good at making it seem like she’s smoking more than she actually is. Does a French inhale nine times out of ten. Usually the one pushing for a spliff instead of a joint. Brings the snacks because she almost always gets the munchies.
Misty: Wasn’t invited, but overheard the plan and insists she won’t tell anyone as long as they let her have some. Talks a mile a minute to anyone who will listen (and some who won’t) after one (1) hit and three uninterrupted minutes of coughing.
Laura Lee: Here for the camaraderie. Doesn’t partake, but does end up getting hotboxed half the time and gets very giggly.
Mari: Will babysit a bong if that’s what’s being passed around; has heard “How much are you getting paid?” (“To babysit that bong!”) a million times and still gets confused. Says “This isn’t even that strong” while also forgetting what she was about to do/say.

liv hewson is nonbinary (i think that is their label) and uses they/them pronouns. this is great, we love this for them!! yay liv!!
but what is the general consensus regarding Van now. because i’ve seen some people still using she/her pronouns for Van, and others using they/them. is this a headcanon thing? i’m confused.
are we doing a sort of Elliot Page thing where Liv’s character is female but they are not? is it more respectful to use they/them pronouns for Van? or is it really not that deep and i’m thinking too hard about it ??
My take!! And how I’m writing Van’s gender in my VanFic (I promise I’m working on it my writing brain has just been not great lately) is that Van is an enby person but did not have that language to describe themselves or understand themselves that way!
It was the 90s and they were young!! We’ve come a long way since then!
Van likely found a lot of solidarity in feminism and Girl Power in the 90s!
There were some spaces (like the soccer team!) that probably felt more comfy to be She/Her’d than others (by teachers or their mom).
I think Van felt a strong connection to their gender out in the wilderness but didn’t have the terms to define it.
Post rescue, there was probably a long time where Van maybe didn’t have access to all of this depending on how much time they spent in queer (not just gay/lesbian) spaces. And they probably wanted to fade into obscurity!!
I think Van’s visible scaring and the media circus post rescue kept them in the gender closet even when they finally learned about non binary genders!
So when I she/her Van, (and subsequently they/them Van) that is what I am thinking!
A = Admiration (what do they absolutely adore about you?)
Ellie adores that you’re always down to do whatever. Especially if the two of you are on patrol together and she wants to check out the abandoned mall. That you never complain about it either
She also loves that you’ll listen to her talk about her interests. Even when she goes on about them for hours.
B = Body (what is their favorite part of your body?)
Ellie loves your eyes and how pretty they are. She makes sure she tells you at least once a day.
C = Cuddling (how do they like to cuddle?)
Ellie loves cuddling, especially spooning. She’s not picky when it comes to being the big or little spoon; she loves being both. Ellie also loves having your head on her chest. She loves to cuddle like that after a particularly rough day.
D = Dates (what does their ideal date with you look like?)
There’s not much the two of you can do, but she loves getting food for the two of you and taking you not too far out of Jackson. The two of you sitting under the stars on a blanket while eating and enjoying each other’s company is something Ellie loves.
E = Emotions (how do they express emotion around you?)
When you first started dating Ellie, she would bottle up her emotions and never tell you what was bothering her. Now, she’ll tell you how she feels, and sometimes if she needs to cry in your arms, she will.
F = Family (do they want one? If they do, when?)
Ellie’s never really thought about having one of her own with you, but if you were to bring it up that you did, she wouldn’t be opposed.
G = Gifts (how do they feel about gift giving? What are their habits when it comes to this?)
If she goes on patrol with someone other than you, she enjoys finding things that she knows you’d love. Every. Single. Time. She wants you to know she was thinking about you the whole time she was away from you. You try to reassure her that she doesn’t have to get you stuff, but she never listens.
H = Holding Hands (when/how do they like to hold hands?)
Ellie will hold your hand any chance she gets. While the two of you are alone, in front of Joel, and in front of everyone in Jackson. She doesn’t care where, if she can, she will hold your hand.
I = Injury (how would they act if you got hurt?)
Ellie would panic and make sure you were okay. If someone in or out of Jackson hurts you bad enough, she’s willing to hunt them down and get revenge for you.
There’s nothing she won’t do to protect you.
J = Jokes (do they like to joke around with or prank you? how?)
Ellie doesn’t prank you; however, she loves to make a lot of puns around you. Especially when you try not to laugh—rolling your eyes as you fight (and fail miserably) the smirk that would form on your face.
K = Kisses (how do they like to kiss you?)
She loves giving you quick pecks on the lips when the two of you are on patrol or busy. When the two of you are alone, she loves to take her time kissing you slowly and even slipping in her tongue sometimes.
L = Love (how do they show you they love you?)
Ellie shows you that she loves you by not only saying it but also spending her time with you. She’ll get you some food if you don’t feel like socializing, and she’ll eat dinner with you in your shared place. If you’re sick, she’ll take care of you until you’re a hundred percent better.
M = Memory (favorite memory together?)
Ellie’s favorite memory would have to be your first time with her. The two of you kept getting interrupted when you were trying, so it was nice to finally not be.
She also loves thinking about the day she introduced herself to you. You were so shy, and the memory alone makes her smile so much.
N = Nightmare (what is their worst fear?)
Losing you is her biggest fear.
O = Oddity (what is one quirk they have?)
Ellie plays with her hair when she’s feeling nervous.
P = Pet Names (what do they like to call you?)
Ellie really only calls you ‘babe’ or ‘baby’ (well, outside of the bedroom at least.)
Q = Quality Time (how do they like to spend time with you?)
Patrols are usually how the two of you spend quality time during the day. At night, she loves playing guitar for you. She also loves to read comics with you.
R = Rhythm (what song reminds you of them?)

S = Secrets (how open are they with you?)
That she’s immune. Ellie will tell you one day.
T = Time (how long did it take you to get together?)
Six months after she introduced herself to you.

If Ellie caused you to be upset, she’ll apologize and give you the space you need (if you need it.)
If someone else upset you or you had a bad day, she’ll try to make you laugh. She knows that always makes you feel better after a long day.
V = Vaunt (what are they proud of? Do they like to show you off?)
Ellie loves to show you off. Anyone who doesn’t know about you will know by the time Ellie’s done talking to them.
W = Warrior (how do they feel about you fighting? Would they fight for you, beside you, etc?)
Ellie gets worried when the two of you have to kill the infected. Ellie would fight for and with you, no matter what.
X = X-Ray (how well are they able to read you?)
Ellie can read you very well. She knows what you’re thinking before you say it nine times out of ten. She knows when you’re upset before you even mention it too.
Y = Yes (how would they propose to you?)
Ellie would make sure the two of you would be going on the patrol you actually enjoy doing. She would ask you there when she knew it was safe. Ellie would never ask you in front of a crowd because she prefers to keep the moment special and private just for you two.
Z = Zen (what makes them feel calm?)
Being around you and having you in her arms is what makes her feel the most calm.
