LAITH ASHLEY // have you met EZRA BRIDGER yet? HE is a TWENTY-SIX year old TRANSMAN HUMAN. theyâre originally from LOTHAL and now show loyalty to THE JEDI ORDER. they are best known for being a JEDI KNIGHT, and i hear theyâre pretty HEADSTRONG yet also NAIVE at times; i hope they survive the galactic civil war.
L O A D I N G : // ⊠ 8ABY : MONTH TWO ⊠//
coming back during the last two months, ezraâs leapt right back into the order as much as he can
given he only had kanan and ahsoka when it came to jedi to learn from - and as grateful as he is for their teachings - ezraâs been trying to learn from and interact with as many jedi as he can while also doing his duty to the new republic, easing back into that life of both a soldier and a jedi as he had before
the attack at the consortium had him shaken to say the least, he doesnât like not being able to feel them in the force - but fortunately all of his solider training with the rebellion and rex prepared him pretty well, so he managed to hold his own and is now working on strengthening and sharpening those skills
heâs relieved beyond words to have kanan around as well as the rest of the ghost crew - but he canât deny heâs nervous the past few years in wild space is going to catch up to him at some point as more and more of the galaxy begins to get explored
most of his time is split between protecting the jedi order, and working with the new republic army, like always
âEh, you toughened up alright. Youâll have to tell Kanan whoâs the better teacher, him or the purrgil.â Despite the ribbing, Zeb can tell Ezra is right. He has grown stronger, and not just physically. As much as Zeb is proud  (was already proud, donât tell the cheeky little lothrat)  itâs still so weird to have missed it. âBet you ran into more interesting things than just purrgil out there, though. So, you wanna tell us what took you so long?â He says it like an offhand teasing comment, but behind the front thereâs genuine curiosity and maybe a little concern. Talking about the helmets draws a gruff chuckle out of Zeb. âOh, creativityâs never been their strong suit, and the bastards have been running scared. You better ask Sabine for a paint job to cover up the mess I made of âem.â And Sabine could use a distraction, lately, but theyâre not going to out and say that.
âyou know, one of these days weâre gonna have to train together so i can show you whoâs boss.â ezra says with a bit of a pout thatâs absolutely not serious at all. he missed this, poking fun at zeb. the constant jabs back and forth that really came from a place of care they had for each other, despite their ridiculously rocky start. âyou ever tried to find your way back from wild space without a functioning ship? itâs not like i took the ghost with me! getting back here wasnât easy, give me a break.â ezra insists with a roll of his eyes, hoping to push right past that topic of conversation. the last thing he wants to do is talk about what happened to him out there. âwell we know sheâs never gonna turn down the chance to give this stuff a fresh paint job. should be fine, right?â
ezra bridger. the name has a ring of familiarity to it, though she canât quite place why it does. her face lights up when he identifies himself, giving him a broad smile & reaching out to clasp his hands. âezra ! of course, itâs wonderful to meet you. kanan told me about you.â
that her legacy found a way to survive, even through all of the hell that empire put them through â sheâs so proud of them. kanan lived through so much & still managed to an amazing young jedi. thereâs nothing more that she could have asked for. âi hope we can have some time to get to know each other.â
he knows thereâs nor eason to be nervous, but ezra truly canât help it. itâs like - meeting the inspiration for everything he learned. depa taught kanan and without kanan, ezraâs not even sure where he would be. force knows thereâs a good chance he might not have even made it through everything the empire put lothal through. so - yeah, yeah, heâs nervous for sure. âhe - he did? really?â he asks, eyes widening a little. he knows kanan wouldâve said good things, surely - but it still comes as a surprise.
letting out an awkward sort of laugh, ezra smiles and nods his head. âi hope so too. i know thereâs - a thousand important things to deal with right now, but.. i wanna get to know you better. if you hadnât taught kanan so much, he wouldnât have taught me, and.. yeah. i really wanna get to know you, given everything. uh - guess i should start with knowing what kananâs told you about me already...?âÂ
six creatures that couldnât be felt in the force and ezra couldnât identify. the more information that he knew, the more unsettling that all of this came. but a deep breath through his nose stilled him, trying to hone in his concentration and ensure that his own fear or other emotions did not blind him to the man that he needed to be right now. âthe guards arenât just focused on fighting the invaders.â that much he could feel, the presence of the fear and anger of the partygoers that had been turned on. âno. donât focus on my safety right now, ezra. donât let concern for me get in the way. there are others here even less equipped. we can both get them out.â
âyeah, itâs not pretty. and theyâre going after the jedi pretty aggressively.â ezra explains quickly, watching things get worse and worse around them. as much as ezra wants to get kanan to safety, he knows his masterâs right. they need to protect as many people as they can from the threats - multiple threats, and growing, as the guards get more aggressive towards just about everyone, not just the six who have sent everything into chaos. âalright. you focus on the guards, iâll focus on the others, and weâll - try and get as many people out as we can.â
it had been unclear, for awhile, if depa would leave a lineage behind. sheâs a rare jedi who hadnât taken a padawan before becoming a master â had earned the rank too young for that. & then she had been so busy with the council, & had never quite felt the pull of the force towards a student. as she was her masterâs only padawan, their line extending unbroken back to tarre vizsla had almost ended. until kanan. she had awoken from her coma & finally felt that call, & he had managed to stay on the path of the jedi through everything, to pass her teachings down. itâs impossible for her to be more proud.
she turns at the nervous call, giving the younger jedi a friendly smile, hoping to ease some of his discomfort. âitâs quite alright, i have plenty of time. what can i do for you ? â
itâs a little daunting, to be standing in front of his masterâs master. the woman who taught kanan so much, who allowed him to then teach ezra so much - not just about the force, he figures but in general. the lessons he lives by day by day, now. oh man - he really hopes he doesnât make a fool of himself. something heâs pretty good at, when heâs nervous. okay. okay, relax.
âuh.. hi. i - iâm ezra. ezra bridger.â he knows the name doesnât matter. she probably hasnât heard of him, but heâs not sure where else to start. âi - kananâs my master. iâm.. a jedi thanks to him. and i guess, by extension, thanks to you.â
âLike you could have stopped me,â Zeb shoots back. ââSides, if you donât like the smell, I can always take it back.â The bickering comes easily. Itâs always been the more comfortable way of showing affection for the scrappy little lothrat. Zebâs not sure he could ever express his gratitude to have him back, to have his whole family back together. So, they donât.  (Not in so many words.)  A big, fuzzy arm shoves Ezra. âKnocked around a bunch of bucketheads while you were gone. Got a few new souvenirs for your collection.â
"i absolutely could have! which definitely means i could now, iâm way stronger than i was back then.â he pulls a face and gives zebâs shoulder a shove, by no means intended to actually push him all that far. ânope, itâs mine. youâre never getting it back. just you wait, one day iâm going to find a way to relocate you to another room on the ship entirely and itâll be all mine.â he grins at the mention of the souvenirs though, he canât help it. after being away for so long, itâs nice to have something semi-normal to come back to. âyeah? youâre gonna have to show me, see what theyâve come up with now. reckon sabine would still paint them for me if i ask nicely?â
focusing on ezraâs presence was doable, able to shift through some of the fear and panic in the room to root himself in where he was ââ but it doesnât give any kind of indication to where whatever it was attacking was. kanan was not worried about his own well-being, but how to navigate, how to help. he could not allow himself to be sidelined, not because of this. âi canât feel them either.â the words are somewhat painful to say out loud, if he was being truly honest with himself, but itâs not a thought to linger on. he tried to focus on what was most important right now. they could deal with the force aspect later⊠hopefully.  âi know there were at least six different explosions. how many different attackers are we dealing with?â
okay, kanan canât feel it either. thatâs - not ideal for either of them, but at least heâs not just him. the last thing ezra needs right now is to wonder if his ability with the force is as strong as he needs it to be, or as strong as it should be. taking a deep breath, ezra does his best to swallow that particular panic and focuses, for both of them. âsix of those - beings, i donât know what they are, but the guards here are fighting as well. we can sense them, though.â he confirms in a steady voice, years of training and instinct kicking in so he can get them both through this mess. âkanan - if you canât sense them, we need to get you out of here.â
âezra ? â her brows raise slightly with surprise, a smile lighting up her face. âitâs good to see you again. i almost didnât recognize you.â she had only been fifteen, the first & last time they met. but sheâs certainly heard of his exploits since then.
ezra had never been good at formalities. he tried, sure, and he got a little better at it as he got older and learned things with the resistance, but it just didnât come naturally to him. âleia - i mean. princess leia. your highness?â he chuckles weakly and rubs at the back of his head, very well aware of how awkward he sounds. âwell yeah, itâs.. been a while, huh. looks like we both had some growing to do, last time we met. not that you looked like a kid or anything! just. you know.â
it had been a long time since kanan had truly felt blind. bendu had been many things by the end of it all, but there was no denying that he had learned, healed his connection with the force. he could hear it all happening at once, feel the propulsion of the explosions, but he could not sense⊠whatever it was that was attacking, no matter how desperately he tried to listen to the living force around him. âezra!â he barked his name in a way that he hadnât in a long time. at least he can sense his presence without fault. âi need you to be my eyes.â
ezra figured heâd be way better prepared for weird things now heâs spent literal years just attuning himself with the force. and for the most part heâs right, sure, but in this instance? nope. not even close. not being able to feel these things in the force is weird, sure, but when he hears kananâs panicked yell, he knows itâs even worse for his master. heâs by kananâs side within moments, all of his other senses on high, every piece of non-jedi training heâd received running through his mind. âiâm here. youâre gonna be fine.â a pause as he glances up at kanan - no matter how long heâs spent training himself, he canât help but look to the other for guidance anyway - âi canât feel them, kanan. they donât - exist in the force.â
he shouldnât be nervous. he has no reason to be. he knows heâs followed all of kananâs teachings the way he was supposed to, he knows really heâs done things right. and that kananâs proud of him. and really... he doesnât owe kananâs master anything. but force, ezra feels like he does. if she hadnât trained kanan and helped form the jedi he became, ezra never wouldâve turned out to be like this. he might not have even met kanan and the others, and then - what, heâd never have been able to become a jedi? never been able to save lothal, save his friends - his family?
okay, maybe thatâs why heâs so nervous. because really, ezra feels like he owes her a lot.
âum... master billaba?â he says cautiously, resisting the urge to fidget, play with his hands, fuss over his hair or whatever other stuff he can mess with out of nervousness. heâs a full grown, fully fledged jedi. he needs to accept that he has a place here in the temple, with the growing order, with other jedi. âi know youâre - probably busy. everyoneâs busy these days, lots to do, but uh - sorry, do you have a minute?â
âokay, can i just say it kind of sucks that my bunk still smells like you.â ezra huffs as he drops into the seat beside zeb, flashing him a very obviously fake annoyed look. it really doesnât - it did for about two weeks, for sure - but he likes poking fun at zeb anyway. itâs another reminder of the normality that surrounds him again. âseriously, if iâd known that was gonna happen i wouldnât have let you have it back in the first place.â
all but skipping out of the small transport ship, ezra makes a beeline for the temple with a smile on his face. he likes being here, itâs - itâs different to the temple theyâd been to before. this planet seems to just be bursting with life, not just the force but in general, and after all of his time in almost-isolation in wild space - thrawn doesnât count, as far as heâs concerned - ezra canât get enough of it.
âcâmon, kanan! itâs time for me to beat you again!â he calls as he approaches the structure, lightsaber swinging by his hip. being on his own for so long, ezra canât help but have a little more energy than usual, relieved to be back with the beings he knows he can trust. at least here he can continue to feel like heâs useful, like he can really make a difference again. which - he can only really do if he gets stronger. hence hassling his master for training. he slows his pace a little as he heads inside, looking around for kanan and while he knows he shouldnât yell he canât help but call out again - âkanan!â
(STAR, 29, AEST, SHE/HER)
THE PAST
ezra was born on lothal on empire day, the same day as luke and leia in fact.
he was born to parents who spoke out against the empire as much as they could, trying to help the people of lothal. unfortunately this lead to their imprisonment, and they were later killed trying to escape and get back to ezra, leaving him an orphan at a young age
he learned to survive by stealing and conning people to get by, eventually finding a home in an abandoned comm tower, doing his best to survive and pick up as many tricks as he could, oblivious to his force sensitivity
when ezra was 14, he met the ghost crew - he caught them out during a job on lothal, stealing a couple of crates they were trying to commandeer - only to get caught by the crew instead
through a series of events, he wound up joining the crew and over time trained to become a jedi
[ look rather than type out the events of rebels iâm just gonna link the wookiepedia for anyone who isnât familiar with his time in the show https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Ezra_Bridger]
at the end of rebels, when ezra was 19 years old - in 0 BBY - ezra sacrificed himself by jumping into deep space with the purrgil to save his friends and lothal overall, prompting the purrgil to take the ship with him and thrawn in it and to jump into deep space
THE PRESENT
itâs taken years for ezra to find a way back out of deep space, and it nearly killed him to do it. the scraps of a ship barely managed to survive the jump back to some kind of inhabited planet, and heâs had to cheat and steal to get back to the rebellion - or, the new republic now, heâs learned.
heâs not exactly sure where he fits into any of this, but he needs to find his family - and doesnât quite realise how much of his family is actually around, now.
he can sense the change in things, though. all he had to do in deep space was survive, and a large part of doing so came from strengthening his connection to the force
heâs been back for a couple of months now, settling back into things with the new republic and the new jedi order, trying to figure out how he fits into all of this now that thereâs actual rules and organisations and not just the ghost and the rebellion and him and kanan.
PERSONALITY
ezra now isnât so far off the ezra we saw at the end of rebels - a little older, a little wiser, and much more in tune with the force. iâd like to say heâs more chill but heâs absolutely not
he still has a surprising amount of hope, and naivety, and heâs still not the brightest. but heâs had a lot of time to really reflect on and adjust to what it means to him to be a jedi, from a combination of what he learned from kanan, and in a smaller part from ahsoka
thanks to his time with the ghost crew and the rebellion, ezraâs learned how to be a good leader, and very much focused on what he can do for others, how to help people in need, to try and protect them from things like the empire. heâs not sure what thatâs going to look like now that the war is over, but after seven years in deep space with thrawn of all people heâs ready to find out.
