Like he didn't even say "what's up yall? So turns out I'm gay and I'm dating a dude."

He found himself the hottest, most powerful, infamous and shiniest downworlder to ever exist.

And was like "So yeah. I'm dating Magnus Bane. What else is new?"

Alec Lightwood is the definition of Go Big or Go Home.

Maryse Headcanon

When Helen and Aline get engaged, Jia tells her daughter she won’t be attending something some horrid. Maryse hears this from Magnus and Alec, and before either of them can blink she’s had Lorenzo portal her to Alicante. She walks into Jia’s office without knocking, and stands there, deruned and imposing and says, “My son is married to the High Warlock of Alicante. Is that a problem?

And Jia says of course it isn’t. So Maryse comes back with “So why is your daughter marrying a half-downworlder Shadowhunter a problem? Is it the gayness? The fact she’s part Downworlder, or both?”

And Jia is stumbling over her words because no one has ever dared to question her. And Maryse says, “If you won’t be there for you daughter’s wedding to the AMAZING woman she loves, I will be. As her mother. Don’t expect anymore Christmas cards. Your daughter is now a Lightwood.”

And as Maryse storms out, Jia is sitting there thinking of what it would look like to have someone else be the mother in her daughter’s wedding, and her heart constricts. She had always imagined her baby’s wedding day.

So Maryse isn’t surprised when she gets a firemessage that says Jia spent dinner with the two women and would be attending the wedding. AS the Mother she is. And Maryse walks around smug as hell, and happy for the two beautiful ladies.

I like how the show never said “they’re Magnus and Alec Lightwood-Bane” but everybody decided “yeah they’re the Lightwood-Banes now, that’s their last name now, canon”. I know it’s cause it’s their married last name in the books (and the last name of their kids, before they were married) but still, non-book fans agree that their married last name, in the show, too, is Lightwood-Bane.
