Energized, freshly spun single VS. Rested single:
This is why even though Im impatient Im trying to let my singles rest before plying 😅
I do not understand what this means. Am I supposed to spin my single ply and then ignore it before plying it? How long? Is there a method to this? Help?
Basically, yes, you spin the single then ignore it for a while. When you add twist to the fiber you're trapping rotational energy and it wants to go somewhere. Given time, the rotational energy will travel throughout the fibers trying to escape and even out through the length of the single, making it more slack and less prone to twist back up on itself while youre plying it. This way you dont have to fight the singles as much while plying
Ive seen different ideas about length of time, people say to let them rest 24 hours but honestly ive found theyre still pretty twitsty after a day, the brown single in my gif had been sitting for a couple weeks (because of laziness and adhd not because I was intentionally resting it that long). So if you can let them sit a couple days I think thats best...
The book Twist by Michelle Boyd is really great if you want to know more about this concept and the physics of spinning
People who do fiber arts as a hobby, if you were paid fairly, would you want to do it as a living?

No
I don't do fiber arts/results
I would if I could make one small garment per year and sell it for 200k 😌
