I've never done this, but this is for my baby boy, so this kinda changes things.

My sweet 6-year-old kitty Lenny was diagnosed with urine crystals after having blood in his urine the last couple days. We caught it early so there's no sign of a blockage so far.

Unfortunately, we still had to spend a good bit of money for his exam ($55) and his pain ($18) and anti-inflammatory ($15) meds. He will also need another urinalysis tomorrow because he peed in his kennel, and the vet couldn't get a substantial sample today. If the urinalysis shows evidence of a UTI, he will need to get on antibiotics as well. The urinalysis should cost around $73 and antibiotics will be probably $10-15 at the pharmacy. They also recommended special prescription (i.e., expensive) food that is supposed to help "dissolve the crystals," but we opted out for now because it was like $77 for an 8.5 lb bag.

On top of that, Lenny has tapeworms somehow, which is probably putting even more stress on his poor little body. We have 5 cats who now need prevention and dewormer, and we've gotten enough for 3 of them so far. Honestly, that's what has put the biggest dent in our budget because those meds are NOT cheap.

My mom was able to help out with $200, so that leaves $133 from today, and around $130 for tomorrow with the cost of the second office visit ($55) and the urinalysis ($73). My goal is $263, but any little bit helps! I am currently in grad school and have only been getting 8-14 hours per week at work at $15.75/hr, so I'm very much strapped for cash until I either get more hours or receive my student loan payout in August. My partner is a pharmacist, but he is already fully supporting me by paying the rent, utilities, and groceries, plus his student loan and car payments.

**Update**

We took Lenny back to the vet today, and they still weren't able to get a urine sample, so they didn't charge us. That takes $55 off our total bill, but they gave us a collection tube and non-absorbant litter to collect the sample ourselves. I'm not sure if we'll be able to make that work, but I'm still going to account for $73 as a future expense if we're able to do that.

We will be getting the food after all, and we were able to get some big discounts on chewy, so the total for that and 6 months of Revolution Plus is $150.61.

So, that brings the total to $374 (subtracting the office visit fee for today + adding the Rx food and 6 months of Revolution Plus). Antibiotics and additional dewormer (Profender) for the other cats may be a future factor, but I'm not including that for now.

As you can see, Lenny has been sleeping pretty much all day due to being on gabapentin for pain/anxiety and having two vet visits back to back. Hey y'all, Lenny seems to be feeling better with a 75% wet food diet. He's been so confused yet pleased with all his special treatment and attention he's been getting lol. Anyways, his prescription urinary food is coming in tomorrow that will help dissolve the crystals in his bladder and hopefully prevent this issue from recurring. The extra doses of flea/parasite prevention for my other cats are also coming in friday, and I got them some less intense oral tapeworm dewormer that I'm dosing them all with tonight (I didn't really trust the profender after reading some reviews, so that's some money down the drain :/)

We're not out of the woods just yet, but we're getting closer! If you're able to help, even a dollar would be amazing!! Thanks so much so far for the donations and reblogs, it really warms my heart because I didn't expect any engagement at all <3
