When my dog walks me, by the time we reach the end of our street we have already passed homes owned by Hispanic folks, African folks, eastern European folks, Indian folks and Asian folks from several different regions. We turn right at the home of the lady who I’m sure is a vampire. As we round the corner at the house of the mixed-race sweethearts and pass the home of the same-sex couple, I can hear the jacked-up pickup with the two US flags in the windows crank up to head to work. I speak briefly with the gentleman from the UK as we take different paths to keep our dogs from getting tangled. We walk back past the home of the Mormon family headed toward the corner where the Pagan and the non-believer live and soon we’re home where the human mongrel can drink coffee and the canine mongrel can nap. This neighborhood is my world, and this neighborhood is America. We aren’t of one skin colour, of one belief, of one political persuasion. We love differently, sing in different voices. We are all trying to have the best lives we can. We don’t need your walls. #nohate #nowalls #lovetrumpshate
