I know what he said about tight pants but like
No one in history is ever gonna look THIS good with white skinny jeans
"Boy dinner, I've discovered, is just eating a rotisserie chicken over the sink" -Harry Styles
If I leave this fandom with anything, I hope it’s with the skill to argue in context. Hate on Harry all you want, but hate him in context, I beg of you. I used to debate competitively, and literally the very first thing you had to do to engage in an argument (the entry fee, even) was to define the motion. You cannot have one side arguing with the ICC defined as the International Criminal Court, and the other side insisting it’s the International Cricket Council because it is a waste of time. It becomes a duel where everyone is firing wide. Both sides need to be talking about the same thing, because that way, you can agree on certain assumptions and build beyond that to make a good argument. Get to the actual meat of why someone/something is the scourge of the earth.
Thus, when you hate Harry, you must hate him beyond the inarguable (moot) facets of him being a rich, white man who has the financial capacity to live at a slower pace in places where most locals cannot. That is true, of course, but it is uninteresting, overly broad, and therefore, entirely useless. It applies to every rich white person living in a five-star hotel in Bali or spending their days surfing on the beaches of Siargao. If that is the basis of your argument, then you cannot lay the fault at Harry’s feet like you so desperately want to. You’re simply hating on government negligence and economic injustice as a whole which, while a valid thing to hate, cannot be attributed solely to Harry, so the justification you seek in your hatred of him specifically (because, for some reason, you guys won’t accept that you can just hate him unethically without guilt or reason) falls flat and is, more importantly, hugely unsatisfying.
Hate with focus. Hate with purpose. Hate with specificity. Learn how to build a strong argument against him not by taking his words out of context and restating immovable, foundational aspects of his person so your argument can work, but by assuming those things about him and still understanding the context of his words so well that you can build it up, and then set fire to it as a whole. That’s what makes hating fun and intelligent and creative. It makes hate taste so much better — Michelin-star level hatred.
And if you insist on willfully hating on him out of context — if you want to practice completely vibe-based hatred — just do it. Don’t bother with reasoning or think pieces. Be pragmatic. Use all that time and energy to hate him without justification. Just put your whole back into it because that is completely respectable and also inarguable. And, I promise, no one worth speaking to will even question you.
🩷💙 Love the physical version, love the interview, love the pics. I love him so much: https://x.com/i/status/2022667165296390370
I love that photo. He looks so happy. It actually makes me super emotional because it's such an unposed, at-home vibe. No pretense at all. And especially because the photos weren't meant to be for anything other than personal use, it feels even more special.

I think this and the one with Alessandro are my favorites.
I need you to know, from the bottom of my heart, with all the strength I have in my body, how little I care about Harry’s overall popularity.
I could be the only person in the entirety of Wembley all six days of his concert, and I would stand ten toes down, head held high, bopping to Aperture on loop.
I’m posting this mostly for posterity, for the moment when the tide flips (because it alway, always, always does) and people begin to see the vision, because it always happens. It happened with the floral Gucci suit. It happened with the long hair. It happened with SOTT. It happened with AIW. It happened with Harry’s House. Complaints on complaints on complaints about how he’s lost his touch, how he’s not as handsome as he used to be, how his sound is too different, how he’s trying so hard, how he’s in his flop era.
And then suddenly the madness! the tears! the desperation to get tickets! the insistence that you’ve loved this version of him all along! ALL WE WANT IS ANOTHER HS DISCO DANCE SUMMER! COME BACK MY LOVE!! I GET IT NOWWWWW!!!
And when it comes, you better bet your ass I’m going to reblog this ask over, and over, and over, and over with every new record he breaks, and every new award he wins.
And if that doesn’t happen? If he is in his flop era? If he finally, finally, finally becomes an obscure indie artist that no one wants to listen to? Catch me at Wembley, alone in the front row, relieved I didn’t even have to think about taking a day off from work to queue for tickets for once in my goddamn fangirl existence.
whoever first pointed out that ilya americanises his accent around other people but not around shane i owe you my fucking life
also the idea of like when its just the two of them ilya can like just slip back into the more comfortable rudimentary accent he had at the start of their relationship :’) and that in itself being nostalgic for shane :’)
this would also be linguistically accurate!
i speak english the most in day to day life and also think in english sometimes. my accent in english is americanized, pretty indistinguishable from a native (excluding sets of certain phonemes like /rl/) .
but if i’m really tired or spending time just around my wife (with whom i speak english), i sometimes switch to what i call ‘lazy english’.
what this usually consists of is i allow myself to speak english with the russian /r/ phoneme that is more natural for me, i drop articles, replace continuous and future tense with simple present, use the ‘….,yes?’ construct, avoid contractions (bc the verb ‘to be’ is dropped/implied in russian, so contractions aren’t always natural)
for example, when i’m in ‘lazy english’ mode, this is how my speech varies:
‘i’m making the bed’ = ‘i make bed’.
‘you’ll help me later, right?’ = ‘you help me later, yes?’ (for this one, in russian, the same phrasal construct ends with the word ‘yes’ instead of the word ‘right’)
‘can you give me a tissue?’ = can you give me tissue?’
‘where’s the pen? do you have it?’ = ‘where is pen? you have?’
if you pay attention, you’ll notice that a lot of these patterns also occur in ilya’s speech, especially earlier on. that’s why i’m particularly impressed with the writing of his dialogue — it doesn’t come across as stereotyping/caricatural because the way he speaks english is consistent with russian linguistic/grammatical rules. this is often how russian-speaking people speak english when it is their second language and they’re still learning.
i like to imagine ilya reverting to ‘lazy english’ or speaking in a similar manner to me around shane. it is linguistically consistent and a sign of comfort/deep familiarity with the person.
The next layer of linguistic accuracy would be for Shane to start occasionally modulating down into a similar "lazy english" that's reflective of Ilya's style. I forget the technical term for this, but it's a legit thing in linguistics -- if there's someone you love/admire/respect and you spend a lot of time with them, you unconsciously start picking up and mirroring a couple aspects of their idiolect (like a dialect but rather than being spoken by a group, it is a single person's unique linguistic fingerprint), whether that's gestures, vocabulary, or speech patterns.
So when Ilya says something like, "Where is pen? You have?" then over time Shane's response might naturally shift towards, "Yes, I have."
he already does this!!!
you still want?
i still want

The anon asking about whether Harry’s prior team will be involved going forward, I think the answer is pretty obviously yes.
This is Stella Blackmon’s credits for the video - She was the director - Molly’s involved as Creative Director and at the bottom Full Stop Management is listed with Jeff Azoff, Tommy Bruce and Tom Skogs.

Now maybe that’s just crediting them for past work but I doubt it. I know a lot of larries want Harry free of them, but I hope most of them can see that just isn’t happening. They are a top shelf management and team, and Harry is a top shelf performer.
She does have some lovely things to say about the process if you follow her and watch her stories!
I’m so excited! New music and tour are coming soon!! 🤞
My guess is it’s crediting them for being a part of LOT since that’s what’s being shown. Regardless, I don’t think he’s changing teams.
Personally, I hope he’s worked hard to be able to stand his ground and to guide his career forward the way he wants it to go (and focus less on what others tell him it should look like).
I’m so excited for whatever this new era will bring us.
I loved the video we saw today. And it seems the people working on it were as touched by the atmosphere as Harry always says he is.

things english speakers know, but don’t know we know.
WOAH WHAT?
That is profound. I noticed this by accident when asked about adjectives by a Japanese student. She translated something from Japanese like “Brown big cat” and I corrected her. When she asked me why, I bluescreened.
What the fuck, English isn’t even my first language and yet I picked up on that. How the fuck. What the fuck.
Reasoning: It Just Sounds Right
Oooh, don’t like that. Nope, I do not even like that a little bit. That’s parting the veil and looking at some forbidden fucking knowledge there.
How did I even learn this language wtf
I had to read “brown big cat” like three times before my brain stopped interpreting it as “big brown cat”
I’m kinda reading “brown big cat” as “brown (big cat)”, that is, a “big cat” - like a tiger or lion or other felid of similar size - that happens to be brown. “Big brown cat”, on the other hand, sounds more like a brown cat that’s just a bit bigger than a regular housecat - like a bobcat or a maine coon cat or something like that.
yeah, a brown big cat is almost certainly a puma. a big brown cat is probably a maine coon.
yeah, if you put the adjectives out of order you wind up implying a compound noun, which is presumably why we have this rule; we stripped out so much inflection over the centuries word order now dictates a huge amount of our grammar
Just looked up why we do this and one of the first lines in this article is, “Adjectives are where the elves of language both cheat and illumine reality.” so I know it’s a good article.
Things this article has taught me:
This same order of adjectives more or less applies to languages around the world. “It’s possible that these elements of universal grammar clarify our thought in some way,” says Barbara Partee, a professor emeritus of linguistics and philosophy at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Yet when the human race tacitly decided that shape words go before color words go before origin words, it left no record of its rationale.
One theory is that the more specific term always falls closer to the noun. But that doesn’t explain everything in adjective order.
Another theory is that as you get closer to the noun, you encounter adjectives that denote more innate properties. In general, nouns pick out the type of thing we’re talking about, and adjectives describe it,” Partee told me. She observes that the modifiers most likely to sit right next to nouns are the ones most inclined to serve as nouns in different contexts: Rubber duck. Stone wall.
Rules are made to be broken. Switching up the order of adjectives allows you to redistribute emphasis. (If you wish to buy the black small purse, not the gray one, for instance, you can communicate your priorities by placing color before size). Scrambling the order of adjectives also helps authors achieve a sense of spontaneity, of improvising as they go. Wolfe discovers such a rhythm, a feeling-his-way quality, when he discusses his childhood recollection of “brown tired autumn earth” and a “flat moist plug of apple tobacco.”
Brain scans have discovered that your brain has to work harder to read adjectives in the “wrong” order.
TL;DR: No one knows why we do this adjective thing but it’s pretty hardwired in.
@deadcatwithaflamethrower Linguistics tidbit.
Since it’s never credited, this is from Mark Forsyth’s The Elements of Eloquence, and just one reason why I think it’s required reading for anyone interested in prosecraft. Every page is this useful.
People will watch this hopefully but actually I want to write this down, because I saw the quotes before I watched and WOW DO THEY EVER NEED THE FULL CONTEXT and some of that is on the interviewer for changing the subject right when he should be asking more (or maybe things were cut) but LISTEN: Louis talks about how in the band days Simon would pump him up and make him feel important and he says "I think for a long time I kind of fell for all of those ideas" and how he was very young and was in awe of him (and how Simon was "definitely brilliant at that time" lol)... he says Simon had built Louis up in a way that he "thought ...would have a real world meaning": Steven asks "when did you realize that it didn't" and Louis says "when I joined SYCO on my own"(!!) Louis says he took the SYCO contract because he thought that was the business move; he thought that Simon would reward him for being loyal, that he saw the other band members choosing other labels and he thought that context would mean Simon would be even more well disposed towards him and he would benefit from that and, going back to what he said at the beginning, that he DIDN'T, that WASN'T what happened. That that signing was his wake up call to the fact that Simon had been full of shit the whole time! Like I'm sorry I actually don't see any way to interpret any of this as anything but him saying, Simon screwed me over?? ALL of that talk about loyalty is him saying that that was a priority for HIM, LOUIS, and the reason he is emphasizing it is to explain that he thought naively that it would go both ways and be honored but that it DIDN'T and um, that's very different than the way people seem to be hearing it (Louis saying he is loyal to Simon)
Reading the comments from DOAC it is clear that him doing that one interview has encouraged people to look into him and become a fan of him, hopefully becoming a fan of his music.
There are so many lovely comments about him as a person, as well. It reminds me of when he was a judge on XFactor years ago. It was as if people were just realizing how amazing he is. He does so well in these long-format sort of interviews.
This little smily lemon is so perfectly Louis.
