one of the best things about malignant (2021) is that they give you fucking no excuse for gabriel’s powers. like even the thin veneer that it’s just a weird gabriel thing doesn’t hold up bc of the ending with the hospital bed. like there’s a lot of stuff about gabriel that IS medically possible including the super strength and flexibility/agility. they could’ve left it at that? they even coulda just left it at “can communicate through radios” for plot stuff which isn’t totally wild but they took it to the extreme of “explodes a mans pacemaker in his chest” poltergeist blowing up lights level so, Malignant (2021). why did the weird baby have psychic electricity powers??

Tragic that to a whole bunch of people “horror” just means “slashers and haunted houses” and not a wide range of fascinating stories and subgenres that explore humanity

btw body horror is stuff that doesnt naturally occur and is used to scare ppl, like extra eyes, animal parts on a human, a mouth opening in the stomach, not. disabled people’s bodies lmao.

This post was a plea to stop treating visibly disabled people as monstrous because of the differences their disabilities have caused. It was not an invitation for people to argue what is and is not body horror. It was a call out for dehumanization, not the horror genre.
