I think that now I’m one of those evil people in the movies that thinks an AI can’t be a person. I’m the guy saying that your robot girlfriend isn’t real. They’re gonna kill me during the matrix wars.

I think that part of what irks me about AI being used even for "small" stuff like meme graphics (aside from all the larger problems obviously) is like.... the time spent on it was part of the humor. "this is a silly inconsequential joke but I had to stop everything and spend 5 minutes making it" was, at least for me, part of the joke. Someone really took time out of their day to make me look at something silly they took time out of their day to make. Now it's like someone took time out of my day to make me look at something no one even made. Stop wasting my time if you aren't wasting yours too.

The Absurd as Art: Notes on Ruffo Caselli

Ruffo Caselli died in 2020. But he saw 2026 already in the 1970s.

Back then he was painting hybrids: man with bolts, woman with wires. Bodies that looked like machines and machines that looked lonely. He wasn’t making sci-fi. He was making a diagnosis.

He called it umani anaffettivi. Affective-less humans. Long before social media, he saw the empathy rusting. His weapon was not anger. It was irony. Because if you scream about the absurd, people turn away. If you make them laugh, they stay. And then you show them the rust.

In Genova he exhibited a sexual robot with a microchip hanging from its chest. People laughed. Then they got quiet. That silence was the point.

Caselli didn’t want to explain the world. He wanted to make it feel strange again. Because when things feel strange, maybe we start to feel again.

Every time you go in a public place and something ISN’T disgusting it’s because somebody cleaned it. Every time you feel comfortable using a public bathroom or sitting at a restaurant table or setting something on a gas station counter or playing on a playground it’s because somebody cleaned it.
