TW: kinda sensitive topics-

book told from two perspectives, one character who's meant to be the hero, and one who's meant to be the villain. the hero wishes they were meaner, because everyone walks all over them and gives nothing in return. the villain wishes they were kinder, because surrounding themself with negativity has rendered them alone and miserable. both keep playing the part they're meant to, and it's not evident that their paths intersect until like, the middle of the book. at the near end of the book, the villain can't escape their negativity, so when hero comes to defeat them, villain breaks down and gets on their knees, begs hero to kill them. end it. they're so sick and tired of their loneliness, and their brain has so many voices and they all want to hurt them, to hurt others, and so they have. scene cut. hero is shown helping the villain up, saying they can get better. saying it's gonna be alright. saying they'll help villain. villain and hero walk away, and all is well. scene cut.

hero wakes up. they're shaken. they're trembling. it is never described. it is never said. but you know; hero killed villain. because that is what they were expected to do. because that is why they were there, right? they had to. there was no hope. mental fade to black, with the words

but what if there was?

anyways yeah i was just thinking about how toxic negativity sure is bad but toxic positivity can hurt you too, and expectations of others aren't always in your best interest. positivity isnt always the way to go, and its okay to be negative sometimes. also im never gonna actually write this so feel free to take it and run
