But because they have this vast imagined wealth, they can decide which resources are gathered and created, how they are used and how they are distributed. They can decide that we need to build a private jet and not a new clean energy plant. They can decide who gets drinking water.

So when you’re talking about taking that wealth, you’re talking about taking all that power.

I admit my circles are limited but I don’t see enough talk about how much harm is caused by the inhuman pace of life under capitalism/wage labor. Just as one example, this suicidal thirst for fossil fuels wouldn’t be the threat it is if it weren’t for the unnatural speed with which every facet of life is expected to be performed. If our time truly was our own we could live quite fulfilling and worthwhile lives, likely even more so, at the speed of foot and hoof and sail.

Imagine a world where the only timers or alarm clocks are in kitchens and specialized workshops or labs, and most household clock faces don’t have minute hands. Imagine signs at the edge of your town or village that say something like “Fuel Powered Vehicles Not Welcome Beyond Next Parking Pullout.”
