Brad Majors captures the transmasc experience SO well,,,,
Like little 14 year old me, unpacking my gender (ftm) and being shown rocky horror at the same time, and kinning Brad Majors of all characters in the queerest piece of media of all time and not knowing why until 10 years later.
Brad is THE PINNACLE of discovering what femininity can look like in masculinity and grappling with what you are SUPPOSED to be and what you WANT to be. Throughout the whole movie, he is forced into the stereotypical “man” role and has words like “strong” and “dominant” and “forceful” thrown at him though he hardly expresses any of those traits on his own. I would argue that for most of his scenes he’s a very passive presence that’s smiley and going along with almost everything, preferring to play “defense” until the time is right, which doesn’t read to me as a particularly dominating force.
It isn’t until the floor show that we see Brad expressing femininity, albeit with Frank’s help of course, and embracing that to some extent (he feels sexy!!). Rose tinted Brad rejects the toxic masculinity mold and instead leans into femininity and I think that is so beautiful and I love him so much, and as a trans man I see so much of myself in this character because society says that if you say you are a man???? You sure better act like it and present as such!!! WHICH IS SO BORING!!!!
TLDR: Brad Majors threw the first brick for trans men
Shoutout Floor Show Brad, gotta be my favorite gender
